Seeing the mother daughter relationship as a mom myself actually felt more real then it looked if that makes sense. I have a 16 year old son so I'm watching him get ready to leave. And I have a 6 year old daughter that still thinks I'm the coolest. It felt so fleeting to me on a deeper meaning then it may to some. I feel like Will Ferrell's character being satirical in the real world kind of corresponded quite well with how they portrayed real world mother daughter. Now some may say that it’s being ironic, that the Kens are treated the generally same way that women are in the “real world”. But even then, putting aside how the “real world” somehow feels more unrealistic than the Barbie world, them taking over (and somehow manipulating the supposedly strong Barbies) is still seen as a bad thing of course, then they’re defeated by their own egos and turning on each other. It has been funny to watch the criticism against the movie because the haters' criticism just didn't carry water. "Well, it's man-hating." Well, isn't it supposed to be? Girls play with Barbies in a way that I presume Ken is a non-entity. It sounds like this movie plays out as how girls play with their Barbies THUS Ken is a non-entity. I don't know if it's good for it to be encouraging older women to hate men because we don't need that but when you're younger the gender war is on! Go for it! The boys don't want to play with the Barbies usually. They want the G.I. Joe and I know that's old-fashioned these days- THIS MOVIE IS THROWBACK. Maybe it doesn't encourage older women to hate men but if it evokes the feelings they had as a girl and they laugh about it that's great! Tom Sawyer evokes feelings in me- if anybody ever asked about my childhood I'd just tell them to read Tom Sawyer. That's it. Yes, you are right this is hilarious from what I just saw of Ryan Gosling as Ken. I love him delivering those lines like he absolutely believes it and the fact that what the female doctor says to him just ricochets off him like he didn't even hear it is even better. god, you know, I think people who are reviewing this for the culture war did see that and did see the joke and purposefully ignored it so they could get their ideas across about what... whatever. Yeah, the negative reviews are selling this movie and the positive reviews are selling this movie on me. I can't believe it! They couldn't have done a better job on marketing. Yeah, maybe they didn't have Will Ferrel being more over the top because they didn't want him stealing the movie or even scene stealing. Mojo Dojo Casa House is working for me, though. I heard Lauren Chen be critical about this movie and when she said that I did laugh. I mean I've watched some Blue Collar Logic and the guy who uploads his spiel over there calls his trailer the Hobo Dojo. So it makes sense! Shouldn't they have a karate Ken anyway? I heard Ryan Gosling is Beach Ken- Beach Ken would do karate. Yes, throw that in there. It's more absurdity. Another thing people seem to like here is the music! "Well, Ken, you should just be yourself." Well, I get Ken taking that in stride and being shallow enough to just buck that kind of rejection. But I think I'm with you not for the sake of romance but for the sake of returning Ken AS AN ACCESSORY because if he's dangling out there alone who's going to play with him? The boys have their toys. Even gay boys want to play with the Barbies. They're gay! (Which is another way of saying they're women- pffft)

I think it has alot to do with just the image of the brand itself, and it's relation to people, particularly kids, and parents, role model things. It's not just a popular brand, it's iconic 'Merica. Subverting conservative ideas about the classic doll (it's just a silly toy for girls) that's rising up against them, making a comedic satire about their roles in society. Don't they ever get tired of being in panic mode all the time? Fighting these culture wars sounds so... exhausting.

See as a woman who grew up with Barbie, I took my daughter and went in with an open mind. I was on board until main Barbie returned to Barbieland to find the Barbies have lost themselves: their brains and jobs, to now listen to and serve the Kens in French maid uniforms because the Kens decided to take their power. So women only have power when men allow it hmm? Then how do they decide to get it back? Not with negotiation for equality, but manipulation them and taking it over again, sending to the Kens back to be accessories. But in this process we see Ken awaken to how he's been treated and feel empathy for him. But I guess the Barbies won't be an example to the real world on how the sexes can work together. Instead they won't recognize the Kens as anything but accessories until women have equal rights in the real world. Missed opportunity

I disagree with the the first part as it was said in the movie that the Barbie's and Ken's are like the natives were to European diseases, completely defenceless. The Barbie's didn't lose power because the Ken's just decided to take it. They lost it cause the Ken's got a phycological weapon on their side. It would've been impossible for them without outside intervention as ken also brought some real world items to the Barbie world for example the god father movie.

I literally hate all those channels that Vito listed. I hate Ben Shapiro. I also hated Barbie. I just wanted a movie about Barbie learning a universal lesson and having fun along the way. The filmmakers wanted to make a movie that shits on men and traditional femininity. That's fine. They can make their movie however they want, but I don't have to watch it or say that I like it. I watched the first 22 minutes, which my friends who loved the movie said was the best part, I was honestly shocked at how cheap and basic the sets were. Compare this to the Lego movie or Truman Show. It's not a technical achievement by any stretch. I saw no reason for Ken to be depicted that way. It was just mean-spirited. Also for a film that goes out of its way to do body-positivity, all the men had to be perfect and the man who wasn't physically beautiful was RIDICULED by the same female characters who embrace every body type and colour. Again, solidarity and equality and diversity only applies to women. Men have to adhere to traditional gender roles and presentations. And respect is only for women, men are never to be respected. We are just bumbling fools, standing in the way of perfect women. How can you ask men with self-respect to watch and enjoy a movie like that? I'm sure the Klan makes movies, but you wouldn't be shocked if black people didn't like them, right? Again, Ben Shapiro sucks, but this movie isn't some neutral comedy film. Like She-Hulk the creators went out of their way to attack men and so how surprised can you be that primarily men don't like it?

And why do you have to excuse yourself from critiquing certain messages because you're not a woman? Would it be ok the other way around, in a movie geared towards men, where they went on rants about how bad the gynocracy is and how hard it is to be a man, and women reviewing the movie should just gloss over that? This film is not suitable for children, so using a famous toy as a cover it's basically a trojan horse for the underlining message. 2. Critique of a film doesn't matter if it comes from Shapiro (a guy that I personally don't like, but whatever) or s simpleton like me is a valid critique. It's not a meltdown, critics are simply doing theirs jobs and pointing the issues at hand. Some guys might overreacted but that's not from nothing, there's already a very long running series of movies specifically targeted to divide the audience, and obviously doing a film targeting children with this kind of politics is the straw that broke the camel's back. Just as Barbie and Ken never get together and have babies, they hope YOU never get together and have babies either. Ruins what looks like an otherwise good film. And a better way to explain why Barbies need to be in charge of Barbie-land would be more along the lines of the Toy Story movies. The toys in Toy Story understand what their purpose is, you know? The purpose of Barbies is to help young girls fantasize about their ideal future self.

A girlfriend? To become a nun? In real life, teen girls want boyfriends, and younger girls like playing "house". Where is the "let's play house" in this movie? It's not there because they are trying to teach young girls to stay away from boys, for population control and to promote general unhappiness. It's a bad message and it's not by accident. It really comes down to "This movie is not for everyone". There are a lot of non-political youtube movie review figures I have seen who have stressed that this movie will not be for everyone due to it's extreme feminist messaging, so I don't think it's fair for you to call out folks for not liking it due to those issues just because you really did like it. Even some mainstream media outlets have put it in their titles to there review where they praised the movie but brought up the messaging issue that might rub some the wrong way. It's also hard to really blame people for being highly sensitive to "woke" messaging when it's been in, and has ruined multiple once adored pop culture productions such as everything Lucasfilm, and Marvel Phase 4 just to name a few.
@vito
@vito Год назад
The fact you believe wokeness is what is ruining Lucasfilm and Marvel tells me you are listening to all the wrong people.
@dualisticmix
@dualisticmix Год назад
@@vito Let's take the word "wokeness" out of the conversation and use the term "agenda" instead. While it is fair to push a movies story using a certain messaging such as feminism, it has caused issue in multiple productions because it altered the story/quality of those productions because "agenda" was front and center before story. Hence Rey being written as a Mary Sue, John Connor killed off to get replaced by the latino woman in Terminator Dark Fate, race swaps such as The Little Mermaid, and countless other disney productions instead of making new characters. That is where "agenda" has gotten in the way. You can't blame folks for being hyper sensitive about it. There are, at this point, countless flopped movies where "agenda" has left a scorched earth of failed productions.
@dualisticmix
@dualisticmix Год назад
@@vito Also, Kathleen Kennedy literally has promoted "The Force is Female" and "She owes nothing to old Star Wars fans" so how is that NOT agenda?
@vito
@vito Год назад
@@dualisticmix How did making The Little Mermaid black make the story worse?
@dualisticmix
@dualisticmix Год назад
@@vito It didn't. I said that "agenda" was promoted with the race swap. The DEI initiative (Diversity Equity Inclusion) agenda has been pushed in a lot of productions and that is one of many of them. Not that the race swap affects the production, it's the point that this type of behavior in productions has made people hyper sensitive to "agenda" in films where even something like "Barbie" that may or may not have been agenda first gets called out since feminism is written into the dna of the story. In normal times this wouldn't even be an issue but because of the DEI push, people are sick of it, so unfortunately everything with some or a lot of messaging gets caught in the crossfire of modern day discussions in the pop culture scene.

Well no one especially not Ben Shapiro said Barbie didn't have themes in it, they just say their comedic jokes are very rare to be good and are often not funny & that it has a massive amount of woke messaging within it. I can't tell if vito is just desensitized by to it or if he just toned it out in favor of the themes he liked. However if you was to say to Vito, "Well I luv the last jedi, because I love how they covered luke Skywalker. A deep story about how luke reflects on the failure of the jedi & how he ending up making the same bad decisions as them sending him into a spiraling depression as all humans would realizing their entire culture was set to failure and becoming disinterested with the whole wars & then a heroic story of overcoming your grief and protecting the new generation even to the point of giving up your own life so you can fix your mistake because you have regained your hope". Vito would say your flat out wrong & if he doesn't say your wrong his review & everything else hes done on the topic clearly does. Because that's a IP Vito is heavily invested in & to see them ruin it with garbage story writing in favor of a theme here & there that are common & overall just ok is not worth ruining a character. Which is exactly what reviewers are talking about with the barbie movie just here it's higher lvls of woke politics medium lvls of character assassination.

Vito is a real one. Unlike Critical Drinker or Ben Shapiro, he isn't a partisan grifter who doesnt just hate things because its what a right wing audience wants. I respect the fuck out of that. The mark of a really bad critic is if you can predict exactly what their take is going to be even before you've watched their video or read their review. These guys aren't actual movie critics they're peddlers of outrage. Btw, Barbie rocks. It's the most fun I've had at a theatre in a while. And just seeing how happy it made so many people was awesome.

@almalone3282 Год назад
I'd argue the opposite. If your loyal audience has no idea if you will like a film or not that's a tale tell sign of a contrarian who has "controversial opinions on film" just for views. It's fine if you don't like drinker or ben but at least you can't say they are inconsistent.

@@almalone3282 I don't think that's a real problem. I watched Critical Drinker and a bunch of his streamer buddies have an in-depth discussion about how the movie was woke propaganda when every single one of them _admitted they hadn't even seen the movie,_ and I think a lot of people are just gonna assume that it's true without seeing the movie based on the reactionary grifters out there perpetuating the idea - that's the danger and why it needs to be addressed. Hell for all I know it might be true, but the ones screaming about woke propaganda sound more and more like they have just as transparent an agenda as the people they built their reputations going after.

Shapiro reviewed the movie because it was overtly political. If a film is pushing a political agenda then it’s fair game for political critique. Shapiro didn’t only criticise the film for its politics. He said in his review even without the politics it was bad on every level; the scenes unnecessarily long and awkward, dialogue cringy, the plot full of holes and the jokes aren’t funny. My criticism is that the movie co-opts the franchise to be political. Throw in some adult jokes and the movie becomes completely inappropriate for the fan-base of the franchise which is girls under 10 years old and their parents wanting to take them to see it, falsely believing because of the trailer it’s a kid friendly movie.
