This is a video following a barge as it moves downstream through the Markland Locks and Dam in Kentucky.
You'll see the river level drop in the lock chamber as the boat travels from one river pool level to the next.
Everything is sped up 8X.
I hope you enjoy.
Let me know what you think and comment any information you have about this process.
Thanks for watching

The real-time footage begins at the 10:20 mark.

I think having the time lapsed footage and the real time footage in the same video is some seriously considerate thinking. There are folks out there that want the whole thing and those that only have 10 minutes. Now everyone gets to enjoy their own way. Right on man.

Thanks for sharing this interesting video of lock operation on the Ohio River. Water freight transport must be even more invisible to the general public than rail transport. Cheers from Wisconsin!

Fantastic video. I appreciate you taking the time to film and edit these videos for us to enjoy. I'm impressed how well engineered that lock is. That 3x5 barge grid looked really tight.

Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed the vide. I would love to get the chance to ride through on a barge to get a closer look at the chamber, because you're right, it is a very tight fit.

Another great video Christian. As usual your drone work is fantastic and your presentation is very interesting and educational. I especially liked seeing the “Amy Frances” rise up in the lock in fast time before proceeding upriver. Thanks for putting both the real time and fast video up. Makes for a very enjoyable viewing experience. The Captain of the “Susan Robinson” did a great job squeezing his boat and barges into what looked like a pretty tight space. I’ve crossed the river there many times but this is the first time I’ve been able to see the locks in operation. Great explanation and visual of how the locks operate too. Thanks for another great video.

Thanks as always Terry. I hope you're doing well. It was really fascinating to see this in action. I was surprised at what a tight fit it was. You would think they'd want it as wide as possible, but the engineers must know more than I do. Have a great rest of your day.

Well then, you absolutely need to disconnect your power supply, ( no electrictity) sell your car, and basically do without!!! Then we'll see how much of a "disaster" it is!!!!!! Your attitude would change within Minutes!!!

That's a stupid statement. You wouldn't have electricity if it wasn't for these engineering feats. America would be a 3rd world country if it wasn't for her industry. Be thankful for what you got; and turn off the news!
