Japan also bans foreigners from owning property. While I can sympathize with the plight of Hawaiian natives, this should have been negotiated at the time the state was being negotiated. But unfortunately nobody thought this would ever happen. It was the Cold War between United States and Soviet Union that built up Hawaii to become the valuable real estate it is today. Admittedly, I am undecided. I agree that Hawaii without the natives isn't the same. From this viewpoint I agree that they should have land rights. Perhaps even one of the main islands reserved wholly for their ownership and their descendants. But from the previous viewpoint.... this should have been negotiated before statehood. I suppose it will take an act of Congress to give them land rights.
Yes, foreigners SHOULD NOT be allowed to buy up property in Hawaii. They prompt the state's law makers to consistently raise property taxes. Mark Zuckerberg is a prime example of "Haole" greed. Locals have been forced out of Hawaii due to the cost of living going up every year. Not to mention, government corruption and horrendously foolish spending of tax revenue. We have a rail being built here on a fricken island which will NEVER serve all of Oahu, yet it's price tag, now at $8 billion, has been changed countless times due to incompetence on behalf of the crooked Mayor Caldwell and the multiple entities that were hired to oversee the ludacris project. Hawaii law makers DO NOT support local small businesses even though we make up a huge chunk of this state's economy. Law makers rather promote the tourism industry here at the cost of quality of life here and our threatened environment, for instance our coral reefs here and dumping of sewage into our oceans due to severe lack of updating our infrastructure. I know there are solutions to the issues I mentioned above however, we have yet to see genuine positive change here in Hawaii. As a person with Hawaiian & Tahitian blood, I believe that we need to keep Hawaiian lands in Hawaiian hands.

My husband and I visited Oahu for the very first time last Halloween and will be going back again this Halloween. The island was beautiful but even as beautiful as Hawaii is I wouldn't want to live there. I'm perfectly fine with visiting and leaving.

Looks like I'll have to buy large amounts of land in Hawaii in future. Then allow natives to live on it free, so billionaires don't kick them off. I'll even advertise to other natives if they want to live there. Only money wins against money.
At it finest. The thought to be superior people are so destructive that they will take anything from people in the most disturbing ways. Natives are just that natives meaning its there land. Question: would you ever consider living in Hawaii? Answer: I already live in Hawaii and no everything is so expensive and the prices of housing and food don't seem to drop. I don't see any hope for this state do to the cost of living. I rather move to the mainland.

An error in Alux statement. The Alux lady said Peter Thiel part 27 billion dollars to buy a beach property but his net worth is around 2.5 billion dollars 3:43 - 4:01 mark. That don’t make sense.

How do the local, natives feel about this? I would say perhaps develop only one of the islands (that's already being developed) and bar any purchase on the other remaining islands unless you are a local native-born in Hawaii.

Lived in Hawaii for 5-years...and it is the weirdest place, for those who haven't been there...greed is ever-present, they'd sell you their soul for the right price, then take you to court suing you for it back, while bad-mouthing you about 'forcing them to sell it' (after all, you did offer them premium cash for it), and let's not forget...if you aren't Samoan or Hawaiian, you are HAOLE - (HOWLIE - the 'N' word for whites). Traffic on Oahu is terrible 24/7, you can't fish from shore anymore...no thanks, you can buy swamp land in Louisiana for 1/100th the price, and stand a MUCH BETTER chance of not being wiped out by one of a dozen volcanoes, Tsunamis or other events, in the process!
Alux,I am 16,I live in India and I am passionate about history (a bit,I am not sure though) but to be frank almost every historical field requires a degree.And I failed in maths in 9th grade.My dad said he didn't want to make me repeat it because he didn't have money...so he enrolled me into a shitty institute known as NIOS (national institute of open schooling) and here in 10 th grade there was nothing related to history!!The subjects I had to take were Home Science,Economics,Business studies,english (even tho I am fluent in it),Deo(computers...),painting.Now I am in 11 th grade and my subjects are mass communucations,business studies,economics,english,home science,accounts,tourism.So now I have decided to try new things and see what is interesting or what I am passionate about and see if I can make a career out of it.Is there any advice you could give me?
Just doing something in your free-time that would be relevant 10 years from now. At your age, most successful people were developing their talent or building something that greatly impact their future. The reason why most successful people usually say go for your passion is because it will be easier to work hard, keep going and never give up. If i was you right now i would try out all sorts of stuff just find out what you're interested in. Then research the people who are at the spot where you want to be and reverse engineer how they got they got there. (These people don't have to be doing exactly what you want to be, but if they're are doing something similar it's easier to follow their footsteps to get into that position for yourself)
My mother had a similar true story on that same rock in her previous experience back then. Although, I'm not going to reveal most of it, especially when you have people with their own conspiracy theory or myth who wants to only make a buck out of it! Interestingly enough to all the suspense and drama they came upon a Kahuna (priest) and said, to make your lives better just take the rock back to the island. And they were much better ever since that time (since that brief experience l truly feel much better now).
Hawaii born and raised, I have seen this first hand. The video leaves out the fact that not only rich white people are buying up the Island it is also the foreign investors who drive prices through the roof. I count myself lucky to own a one bedroom condo even though I work 12 hours a day to pay for it.

Should foreigners be banned from buying property in Hawaii? I think they should be limited from buying property anywhere. Maybe not completely banned, but definitely limited. Otherwise, natives of any country will not be able to afford to live there.
