There is always something that can be said. It's either I choose to or not. No writers block here.

I would think older rappers would have more to talk about. Young rappers talk about their experiences, older rappers can talk about what they learned from it. They also have life experiences from their current life. Just my opinion. Not even to mention the different perspectives

I'm 55; Hip-Hop has always been a part of my life. I don't consider myself a rapper anymore I'm more of a narrative to beat story teller.

I've been writing songs for about 22 years now & rapping about 19 years,i've never had writers block,no cap,like never & thank goodness. What he said about the INTAKE of content helps with that too,always learning & challenging self increases the possible output to regurgitate. I love the fact hip hop emceeing is maturing & laying new ground for 25+ rappers,this is imperative & biography,philosophy,odyssey,obviously,etc all rhyme with COLONOSCOPY 😂😂 great content as always brother Curtiss King

Let's be real...I've been down with the Roots since the Organix album. Black Thought is definitely a Gawd MC (Shout out and RIP to Malik B, those who know, know) BUT Andre 3000 is sitting in a space that Black Thought has never sat......He LITERALLY has the entire world waiting on him to release a verse. Again Black Thought is my man but 'Dre has an amount of pressure on him that no one in hip hop has seen in a long time

Organix was released stateside after Illadelph. Originally, it was only distributed at shows in the UK while they were living in London…when they were called the Square Roots. So, unless you were out there then and copped one of the super original and ultra rare joints that was on cassette from an obscure and unknown hip hop act, or maybe you’re from Philly and was aware of these dudes when they were still in highschool and you were so plugged into the scene that one of those tapes made it your way (which would be amazing and I would have to give it up to you), then being down with The Roots since Organix meant that you came to the game late. Proceed, Silent Treatment and Distortion to Static off DYWM were the first joints that had videos and being played on YoMtv and Rap City. That was when I first caught wind of them. And I didn’t see the group as Black Thought being the group’s lead. I considered Thought and Malik as a duo. As you said, Malik was top tier and had great chemistry with Thought so it wasn’t even like Thought stood out and eclipsed Malik like he seems to do on every feature he’s been on for the last 20 years. Even Illadelph came off as two emcees pulling most of the weight (exception to the guest features and Dice Raw’s appearances on DYWM and Illadelph). Shit-Malik even had a solo track on Illadelph. But after Illadelph, when Organix randomly popped up one day at Tower Records did I understand that Black Thought was the obvious lead emcee and original foundational member of the Roots with Quest. And when Things Fall Apart came out, that’s where Thought really made it known. People had been catching Roots shows by then and Malik was never there. Just Thought back in the locks days. And then the rumors of Malik not liking to be on tour, then the full understanding of the situation when Phrenology came out and Thought explained the situation on the track, “Water”, followed by a couple albums not featuring Malik, that’s when the group’s dynamics were made clear. I’ve been doing this emcee thing since the mid 90s and though I dug the Roots, I think Things Fall Apart is when I understood Thought’s greatness and I started considering him the greatest. Been that way ever since…and he’s only gotten better. Malik was always the only person who could pull the weight and be the perfect partner to trade bars with Thought throughout a full album. But I think Thought probably kept that in mind when he wrote his verses on those older Roots albums. RIP Malik B, indeed. Legend.

It's not that he don't have nothing to say, it's about feeling like saying something and if he doesn't feel it then it's not worth doing.

Ok. Now this is what I needed. Positivity that inspires and confirms my theory on we as artists actually have more to talk about and can express it better than the younger version of ourselves simply based on practice and sharpening our sword making it sharper as opposed to these young artists who think just because thet got a sword or because it look dope it's enough when in truth it's the individual who practices their craft that wins in the long run.

You know how many bars and concepts I come up with just watching anime alone instead of saying something like “spinning your block” me as an anime head, I would say something like “blasting off the scene, big mama with the Zeus on your trail” Edit: in case it doesn’t make sense big Mama is a villain from one piece, who has a purple lightning cloud named Zues that talks and she rides around on it like Nimbus, and she hawked down the straw hats on it.

Same 😂. Some of my best songs and bars have come from watching anime and listening to various types of music whilst smoking trees.

Great video for all creatives and Happy New Year! 🎯🎉♥️💯💎🔥 Embracing one’s age instead doing the same with one’s insecurities is a big key especially when Quincy Jones was in his 50s when the biggest selling album of all time was produced. The environment consistency is indeed also great pathway. Not isolating oneself is the fork in the road without a doubt of it all! Being or becoming a hermit and avoiding people is a losing proposition because the audience has no opportunity to share potential inspiration of their enjoyment of one’s music if one has kept them at an arm’s length. The audio infrastructure and lack of isolation have to be present to both consume content and produce it. Michael Jackson was perhaps the biggest buyer of music because he lived in an era where streaming services did not exist and he wanted to hear everything for inspiration.

Ppl can literally rap about anything. I heard a dope ass British rapper the other day rap a whole song about sleeping and being sleepy... bars in that whole song, and he's just talking about being sleepy 👀

There's plenty to talk about for sure. It seems like most rappers are 1 dimensional nowadays so if they never learn to tap into different cultures, genres and subjects then they will definitely get writers block if they even write there own bars that is.

The whole discussion about age in hip hop gets really silly when you realize Eminem is 51. He doesn't look or rap like it and doesn't make it an issue. But I think that's also bc black artists are especially susceptible to ageism. Rock and roll has no problem giving their legends flowers.
@onepunchflan3071

I dont think its to do with black artists there's plenty of black artists in various genres that remain respected. It's more of a hip hop thing imo

First I want to say to you Curtis is that you have been doing a phenomenal job with your channel. I have been following you for some years now and I really enjoy your content. Next, I just want to mention that Black Thought is 💯 percent right. You have to consume Content. I'm in my 50's as well, and have been rhyming since I was 14. I started using the method he's speaking on once I reached my 40's. That method allowed me to bounce back during a time when I was experiencing writers block. It has been 12 years since I wrote this song but I know I could write another album in a snap and overcome writers block by doing what Black Thought mention in the interview with Questlove. This is not a promotion just a reference. I was the lead vocalist in the following band BLACKHOLE IND ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wBFUvMSMRzA.htmlsi=TACqt06WXhZJutif
