I worked on Ward Flexo's and they would average about 120,000 box's a shift so at .25 lbs per box that would be 15 tons a shift X 2 shifts 30 tons a day X 300 work days would be around 3000 tons a year per line and we had 3 lines so around 9000 tons for the plant per year.

This posting is missing the "Box-Forming" section!!! Usually a separate machine takes these blanks & forms a corrugated box complete with glue bonding. THEN somebody has to stack the boxes!!! The box forming machine is capable of making 15 to 30 boxes each minute!!! Just pointing out.

@@praveens1516 - - The box forming machine is separate from a company like Georgia-Pacific. The company that needs a box like a fruit or vegetable farm operation tells Georgia-Pacific what they require to get their product to market, then a box container is designed with sample flat blanks & sent to a separate company to make a machine that will assemble it into a box. There are a multitude of box types & styles from simple 1-sheet trays to 3-piece bliss & Corner flange seals (CFS.) These box forming machines are 6' x 6' x 8' tall (ball park,) & weigh over 2000 pounds. Each machine is made differently due to the box type from the loading rack, mandrel, forming shoes, compression chamber, flanges, glue applicator & various related parts that support the operation. This documentary should've been more responsible & added the additional research explaining much more completely how a corrugated box was made, along with some different styles. Much good luck.

Sounds like a machine called a "folder gluer" you would have to feed each box flat one at a time.. from what I can remember some of the boxes were already printed or had a label on it some had no printing whatsoever it would just get folded over glue would go on the tab and dry... all depends what year you're talking about and how big the plant would be depends on how much Machinery they would have.. they had Die cutters, flexso's , corrugator, they had machines called the labelers you would put the label on a flat sheet of corrugated board it would go to another machine in order to make the cuts that's when it would go to the folder-gluer..They also had a machine a flat die cut machine.. the other die cutter was on a round cylinder.. back in the seventies they had machines they were called The Press.. you would staple the print die onto a cylinder on top of the machine you would use a really thick ink like a paste and it would have little keys to adjust the ink flow.. that was called a printing press from the 50's 60's & 70's did away with then in 1980...👍

In the 70s I was a die-cut operator and nothing was automated but the stacker but not used all the time... I was putting out 300,000 square foot up to 700,000 square foot in an 8 hour shift try hand feeding all that you would quit in one day...And I never made one mistake 6 plant records and one divisional record... even with all that automation you have and new machinery I bet you put out maybe 200 thousand square foot in an 8-hour shift if that, in this Video you show flat board might get that two times a week...Would like feedback to see what you produce in an 8 hour shift now that you're fully automated with a new machine...!!!!

@@uknowme9834 I'm taken in the 70's old school not fully automatic machinery from 2008..When I started there the most anybody ran in 8 hour shift and that was the plant record he did 350,000 Sf.. people said nobody will ever break that record it's been like that for 10 years and don't call me Boomer you jealous douchebag to have an old die cutter that was hand fed by one guy I was the operator running the stalker when they saw 700,000 ft the supervisors bought everybody a case of beer on the machine, plus we got jackets and extra bonus money it had to be put on the rail by forklift..Now new machinery that's fully automated they probably kicked but had the wooden die Cuts with the knives and the rubber had to open a machine up every time a night fell out or pieces of rubber fell off.. basically working with old junk that nobody would fix from the other shift.. I retired out of that industry in 2001...!!

I'd say the hardest job in a box plant would be the guy that made the "Starch" for the corrugator..One man job "me" by myself "HOT" 100 lb starch bags, 50lb borax bags others to make the batch,Acid that would melt your skin in seconds..Hot pipes would reach 400 degrees Have 3--3,000 gallon tanks to fill in 8 hours..each batch was 14-100 lb.bags of Starch would make 6 to 8 batches a day..Had to wear rubber boots up to your knees, rubber gloves up past your elbow a mask and a shield the platform was about 8 ft High the temperature was probably over 115 degrees-plus in the summer..Real Suck job sometimes never got a break or lunch but i could pick my own hours get there at 4 or 5 a.m leave at noon or 1p.m..Now from what I hear no more caveman work I heard everything is fully automatic now..I did every job to me that was the hardest and the most dangerous..I saw an Old Black friend great friend he was working on the corrugator he went inside to clear a red eye because something was blocking it somebody started up the machine it cut him in half his head was crushed and Ribs at that spot cut him in half he was dead right away had less than a year before he would retire...Blood all over a sight I'll never forget, really a great guy too because of that mistake his widow sued and got $4 Million dollars in 1984..RIP Joe..🙏

It is good money as a grunt, but most of the jobs are for skilled workers. You do not need any experience, but you better be half way smart and learn well and fast. Just like most higher paying skilled worker jobs. Something like this pays $17 to $30 bucks an hour depending on what plant your are in. The wage differences do not account for inflation. You could be in New York and paying 4000 a month for a 1 bedroom and get paid 40 bucks an hour or you could be living in North Dakota and getting paid 30 bucks per hour and paying 450 for rent for for a 3 bedroom 2 stall garage and car.
