My home is 350 km from Viena and 450 km from Rome…region was literally a boarder area between muslim and Cristian world for centuries…. Price bosniaks paid for being muslims in mid europe after turks had to withdrew is enormous - 10 genocides in less then 200 years, most people are aware of just one from the war in 1990ties…

Yeah, my mom told me that Bosnia experienced a war roughly every 50 years for about 500 years.. 10 major wars in 5 centuries, plus even more before that.. it's crazy.. and very few know that in WWII Croats and Serbs (former Yugoslavs) were allied with N@z1 Germany, were killing Bosnians because Bosnians didn't side with them and were also protecting Jews from the Yugoslavs who were rounding them up for concentration camps.. And not only that, they also killed Croats who refused to side with them.. anywho my paternal grandma was orphaned by them at the age of three, she witnessed her parents being slaughtered like sheep on the living room doorstep by those terrorists.

@@spartanbeast3575 You know my friend, the fall of the Ottoman empire meant the bastion and protector of our people was no more. I come from Lebanon and my religious teachers taught us how the Ottoman empire had protected us in secret from the radical beliefs that led to the emergence of so-called IS*S that destroyed many mosques and shrines built during the Ottoman era or before that, in much of Syria and Iraq (and their presence in Lebanon was only recently combatted by our army). Now look at us, just existing and trying our bare minimum of withholding our beliefs by being God-fearing in this short life. May God protect Bosnia and lead it to prosperity. The communism did a number on any muslim community whether in Bosnia or Kazakhstan. This reminds me of a story my religious teacher told us about from the land of Kazakhstan/Uzbekistan, when a commissar came to a middle school for boys trying to dispel the belief in God and Islam away. The commissar said: "Can you see God?" The boys replied: "No." The commissar then tried to claim: "Then God does not exist." in order inject poison into the muslim boys. A quick witted boy, mind you his age similar to that of a grade 5 student, stood up and said: "Do you see his mind?", "NO" they replied, "then he has no mind." A basic logical approach with critical thinking can directly reveal that there has to be One who created us and chose for us to be in this body and soul that feels life, and that the Creator is not the created. The Creator is God, and that is the message of prophet Mohammed and all his fellow prophets that preceded him.

@@vegetaftw1Yes, this is accurate. I have two Bosniak predecessors in my family that served in the first multi ethnic Nazi SS division (13th Waffen Mountain Nazi SS division) during World War 2. However, the division resulted in a 95% desertion rate. (Poor villagers were conscripted, looking for financial incentives during the war, being promised that the division would be stationed in Bosnia. This promise was not kept and plans to send the troops across Europe was discovered by the troops. This resulted in the nearly 100% desertion rate.) However, it is likely that the majority of Muslims of Bosnia in World War 2 joined with the Yugoslav Partisans (Communist faction) led by Josip Broz "Tito." The Yugoslav Partisans are known to have been the strongest resistance against the Nazi's during World War Two. Selam alejk, brate.

Some say that Islam reached Bosnia even before the Ottomans came. They say there was a traveller from Bosnia who was in Saudi Arabia in the early Kalifats. Perhaps this is the reason why Bogumili prayed 5 times a day and why their belief in Allah and Isa a.s. was different from those who've only heard from churches. General Serbian point of view: Modern Bosnian Muslims are Islamized Slavic Christians of Serbian origin*. There were several types if Islamization: By force, where you either become a Muslim, or you can get starved or get killed. By interest, in order to keep the land you had and pay lower taxes. Used by nobles mostly. By belief, where you truly believed in Islam. There were many *Muslim families which still celebrated Christmas, Slava and Đurđevdan, but these traditions have Slavic paganism routes. I wrote *Serbian as general term for central south Slavs (there is no general term), which to this day share the similar tradition, culture and language, which is very similar/same to Croatian and Montenegrin, but different from Slovenian or Bulgarian. There are Bulgarian Muslims which have nothing in common with Bosnian Muslims, and no Slovenian Muslims.

One small correction dear friend. During the time of Bosnian kingdom (more then 700 years) official religion was NOT Bogomils. Bosnian "church" was Manichaeism system of belief. That religion was considered heresy by Chaotic and Orthodox church. All Bosnian kings(dynasty) at that time were Manichaeism except the last king who accepted Chatolicisam and authority from the Pope.

@@Mr.Jasaw13 I know his book but I can’t rely on one journalist man’s book while other historians, especially balkan ones, disagree with him. Bogomilism appeared in Bulgaria in mid 12th century and spread to the west over Rashka to Bosnia. Serbs and Bulgarians already fought them before they even reached Bosnia. Although the so called bosnian church has been a slightly different form of bogomilism it had it’s origins among the Bogomils of Bulgaria. Bosniaks just try make something unique out of it to support their own identity.

Ah Bosnia! Everlasting bastion of freedom. Here are few extra facts: - Bosnian bogumils - Bogu mili in translation from bosnian language, essentialy all other south slav languages, means "Those dear to God", they were a part of bosnian church and Bosnians had their own culture. There is a unique culture of burial grounds that you will find only on teritory ruled by this authentic bosnian religion. These toombstones are called "Stećak". If You've seen Dune 1, burial grounds, thats pretty much how it looks like, only even more authentic. - Bosnians spoke their own language and had their own script called bosančica. One of the oldest written document, of all slav people, and when I say all I mean all from Russia to Poland, Belarus to Montenegro, is Povelja Kulina Bana, Charter of Ban Kulin. Rated in one of top 20 oldest documents in slavic history. - Average Bosnian folk were literate, and quite poetic. This is something proven by the scribes written on almost every Stećak. - Rome made 5 atempts of Crusades on Bosnian lands, and it ended by Ban Kulin resigning his Bosnian religion and accepting Pope as his spiritual leader, but in the background, bosnian church continiued to prosper. Additional 3 crusades were made by Hungarians, supported by Pope. - Grudge of Rome against Bosnia was so strong, they deneid to send aid to Bosnian army against Otoman Empire. However, Otoman Empire took 75 Years to take over whole of Bosnian teritory. - Bosnia was one of the richest Kingdoms in Europe, princeses of Bosnia would often mary Germans, Hungarians, Italians, Austrians, Bulgarian Bans and Dukes. - Paralel to prosperity, Ottomans also brought suffering for Bosnian folk, often giving Serbian politicians authorites over Bosnian Lands, wich led to many uprisings. - Bosnian people helped a lot of Jewish families that were prosicuted from Europe, century after century. One of the oldes Hagada is still in Sarajevo and you can visit it in the states museum. - Rebelius nature of Bosnian folk gave us the start of first world war, when Gavrilo Princip shot dead Arch duke Franz Ferdinand. uh, can you put a thousand year old history in few sentances? I gues a documentary sieries would not be enough. You've done a fair job I have to say, thank you for making this video. Bosnians hold dear many traditions, we are proud people, stuborn, not that easily offended and always give our best to stand for the truth. War in 1990s was epiphony of opression against our land, our fathers barehandedly fought against fourth largest army in the world and won our freedom. Brothers in arms were all religions, some of the best generals were not even muslim, they were orthodox and catholics. Sadest part is that this war brought upon us ethnic cleansing, but we will presevier.

Your claims are not only false and unsupported by historical evidence, but they also seem to be influenced by a national bias, which compromises their credibility. -First lie: Bogumil, also known as Theophylact Bogomil, was a 10th-century Bulgarian priest and the founder of the Bogomil heresy, a dualist religious sect. The Bogomils believed in the existence of two gods: a good god, who created the spiritual world, and an evil god, who created the material world. Their teachings opposed the established Orthodox Church and feudal authorities, advocating for a return to what they saw as the purity and simplicity of early Christianity. The movement, although never large in numbers, spread throughout the Balkans and beyond, influencing various other heretical movements in medieval Europe. Despite some influence in the region, Bogomilism was never the official religion in Bosnia. Historical records, including those from Byzantine chroniclers like Euthymius Zigabenus and Western sources such as the papal bull of Pope John XXII in 1325, confirm that Bogomilism remained a minority belief and was often persecuted by both Orthodox and Catholic authorities. Additionally, the Bosnian Church, sometimes confused with Bogomilism, had distinct beliefs and practices, as evidenced by documents like the Charter of Ban Kulin from 1189. Second lie - The term "Bosančica" is often misrepresented or misunderstood in historical discussions, leading to misconceptions about its origins and usage. The notion of "Bosančica" as a distinct and unique alphabet used solely in medieval Bosnia is a misleading interpretation of historical facts. The so-called "Bosančica" was not a separate alphabet but a regional variant of the Cyrillic script. This script was widespread among South Slavic peoples, including Serbs, Croats, and Bosnians, during the medieval period. Its use was influenced by the cultural and religious practices of the time, which were heavily intertwined across these regions. The people of medieval Bosnia were ethnically and culturally linked to the Serbs. Historical documents, such as those by Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII and the charters of Bosnian rulers like King Tvrtko I, illustrate the strong presence of Serbian people and influence in Bosnia. This close relationship meant that the Cyrillic script used in Bosnia was fundamentally the same as the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet. Documents from the medieval Bosnian state, including the charters of Ban Kulin and King Tvrtko I, were written in the Cyrillic script commonly used by Serbs. These texts do not support the idea of a unique "Bosančica" script but rather confirm the use of the standard Cyrillic alphabet of the time. The Bosnian Church, though distinct in some practices, shared many similarities with the Serbian Orthodox Church. The liturgical texts and religious manuscripts found in Bosnia were often written in Cyrillic, aligning with the Serbian tradition rather than representing a separate script. The term "Bosančica" itself is a relatively modern invention, not a medieval concept. It was created to emphasize regional variations within the Cyrillic script but has been inaccurately promoted as an entirely distinct alphabet. This has led to confusion and the propagation of myths about its uniqueness. The idea of "Bosančica" as a separate alphabet is a historical misrepresentation. The Cyrillic script used in medieval Bosnia was identical to the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet, reflecting the shared cultural and ethnic heritage of the South Slavic peoples in the region. Correcting this misconception is essential for an accurate understanding of the region's history and linguistic development. Third lie - It is clear that the claim about the average Bosnians being literate is a blatant lie. In medieval Bosnia, literacy was predominantly confined to the clergy and nobility. The clergy and monks used Cyrillic and Latin scripts for religious and official purposes, while the nobility had education and could read and write for governance and diplomacy. However, most ordinary people were not literate and relied on oral traditions. The assertion that common people were generally literate contradicts historical evidence and is simply false. Fourth lie - Your claim that there were crusades specifically initiated by the Roman Catholic Church or the Kingdom of Hungary targeting Bosnia is a blatant lie. Historical evidence shows that while the broader Crusading movements and regional conflicts did impact the Balkans, including Bosnia, there were no major crusades specifically launched from Rome or Hungary directly against Bosnia. Hungary's military actions in the region were part of broader political and military conflicts rather than formal crusades, and the Catholic Church's efforts in Bosnia were more about exerting religious influence than conducting dedicated crusades. Where did you get that number and why you falsify history? Fifth lie - The claim of yours that there was significant animosity between Bosnia and Rome during the Ottoman conquests is false. While the Roman Catholic Church did seek to influence and support Christian states in the Balkans, its primary concern was preventing the expansion of the Ottoman Empire, which was viewed as a threat to Christian Europe. There was no notable grudge between Bosnia and Rome; rather, the Church's involvement was focused on broader diplomatic and religious efforts to resist Ottoman expansion rather than on direct conflict or significant tension with Bosnia.... More of your lies I'll write on another occasion. I have more historical evidence to support my claims than you do. To help you better understand this topic, especially since discussions about Bosnia are often influenced by bias, I suggest you review this evidence. This will provide a clearer, more accurate view of the subject.

Based on historical census data from both the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, it is evident that Muslims were never the overwhelming majority in Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the 1879 census under Austro-Hungarian rule: - Muslims: 496,485 (38.7%) - Orthodox Christians: 496,485 (42.9%) - Catholics: 209,391 (18.1%) - Others: 3,749 (0.3%) According to the 1931 census in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia: - Muslims (later known as Bosniaks): 718,079 (30.9%) - Orthodox Christians (mainly Serbs): 1,028,139 (44.3%) - Catholics (mainly Croats): 547,949 (23.6%) - Others: 30,398 (1.3%) These figures clearly demonstrate that Muslims were not the majority population in Bosnia and Herzegovina during these periods. Claims that Muslims were the overwhelming majority in Bosnia during the 1600s are historically inaccurate. The data from both the Austro-Hungarian era and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia refute such assertions, showcasing a diverse and balanced ethnic composition in the region over time.l

That's simply not true. Since the people who converted to islam in the balkans were mostly orthodox christians. By the time when the Otomans invaded balkans, bogomilism was mostly gone from Bosnia and other parts of balkans. And bogomilism wasn't exclusive to Bosnia, it was common in all of the balkans. Actually it spread to Serbia and Bosnia from the first Bulgarian empire. Bogomilism doesn't have any connections or similarities with islam. There is no proof whatsoever that bogomils or any other gnostic/dualist sect prayed five times a day like muslims do. And the reason why todays most muslims from the balkans live in Bosnia is because they moved there from Serbia and parts of Austria Hungary ( mostly Slavonia and Dalmatia ) after the failed siege of Vienna by the Otoman empire and after the first Serb uprising in the 19th century. This is pure Otoman pan islamic propaganda where you try to say that your ancestors converted to islam because their fate was correct even back then and the fate of others was incorrect even back then. People converted to islam because they wanted to keep or improve their social status under the Otoman rule not because the Otomans introduced them to the ''correct'' religion like you subtly try to say it here. You said it yourself. Those who didn't convert to islam were second grade citizens with no political and social rights. While I do agree with you that the Catholic church was much more brutal towards the members of other religions than the Otomans were.

Dismissing the early Croats' conversion to Islam as mere economic opportunism overlooks the profound cultural exchanges that occur through trade. Many societies have adopted new religions through similar processes. For example, the Kingdom of Axum in Africa embraced Christianity largely due to interactions with Christian merchants. Croats encountering Islam might have found genuine spiritual and cultural value, not just profit. Reducing their experience to mere economic gain is both simplistic and disrespectful.

Another fun fact, in Turkey there is a place called Little Bosnia, which is a place made by Bosnian migrants in the 19th century, and to this day their descendants speak Bosnian (alongside Turkish), and the interesting thing is they speak a certain dialect of Bosnian (I forgot which one). It would be nice if you could do videos about these topics as well.

Yeah, we are border country for thousands of years, between east and west, christianity and islam, catholics and orthodox. In my town we have catholic church, orthodox church, jew synagogue, and many moques. We hate noone, but we are awake for those who hate us. Selam from Zenica, Bosnia :)
