this single thing would inspire a 6 minute heavy metal song which would go on to be one of the most memorable songs in a PlayStation 2 game (and one of the coolest songs i've ever heard)
@WaybackRewind Right?! If only mankind knew how much better life would be if we all stop quarreling over stupid things. We could achieve so much more together! ❤️
Fun fact, the s-mine wasn't designed to kill. It was designed to maim. Wounded soldiers are more costly to armies than dead ones while also preventing them from service. Not only that but it also ruins morale a lot more than death
I know you're joking but in case you're curious. The real reason they launched in the air is because traditional land mines were significantly reduced in effectiveness by being in the ground. As shrapnel is the main lethal force laying on the ground before it goes off protected you a lot. Airburst like this is significantly more effective because the ground isn't in the way
Fun fact: "Bouncing Betty" was a term coined by the US forces, the brits would call these mines "Ballbusters" and "Nutcrackers" Edit: For those more inclined/interested, the actual name of the device is S-Mine, (which means Springmine or Schrapnellmine) the most widely known model is the Smi-35 which is the one in the video.
Many a kills with this little beauty! Ripping around with the MP40 and then seeing those Betty kills helping you get closer to those dogs was the pinnacle of humanity!
❤Jesus Christ will come back soon and we don't have much time to turn to Him. He died for all of our sins so that we can be forgiven. All we have to do is accept Him into our lives and trust Him wholeheartedly. Nobody but Jesus can save your soul. This might be your sign so turn to Him today. He loves you
@@trvst5938maybe you should do something about it. You could amass a large enough amount of people together and give them the resources to force the world into a civil agreement. But you'd probably need an army for that
Wouldn't the best tactic be to instruct soldiers to take paused steps. That way most of the force gets distributed in the ground and worst case scenario they lose a foot
@@Frankiestuff123people can easily look up What happens when you step on a bouncing Betty because it’s an obvious question. They won’t look up the zipf mystery or the banach-tarski paradox. They won’t think to google if your red is the same as mine. They won’t think to look up if cereal is soup. It’s a skill issue.
That thing has a one pound explosive charge. It will take both legs off if you're the one triggering it, or if it pops a bit higher, disconnects your hips from your spine. Your dick will be vaporized, and not your greatest concern at that point. It's the guys around you that get shredded with the bearings and shrapnel at belly or hip level.

My cousin stepped a landmine during the Vietnam War and he lost his legs but he was still alive. He begged his friends to shoot him but they refused so they gave him a gun and left him. They had no choice because the enemies were close by and they had no way of helping him.
For anyone wondering, this specific mine is called an S.Mi.35. They were used by Germany during WWII. It should be noted the majority of WWII land mines work differently than these S mines. These are pretty unique with their “pop-up” operation.
Imagine those poor people who stepped on one. You'd have just enough time to realise what it was and what was going to happen as it popped out of the ground, but no time to react.

Without the fuse, it would not explode. They usually set the fuse on the ground. First the box, insert the fuse, cover and damn remember where you put it 😅
I appreciate the system description, but I’m more interested in how much time I have before all those components come together and create the explosion so I can maybe mitigate my death
I mean the people we were doing this too were sending Jews to death camps and ethnically cleansing Manchuria, you either need some thicker skin or just need a history lesson.
We’ve came a long way since Biblical times. Capital Punishment for Minor Offenses: The Old Testament prescribes the death penalty for a variety of offenses that would be considered minor today. For instance, in Deuteronomy 21:18-21, a stubborn and rebellious son could be stoned to death. Similarly, in Leviticus 20:10, adultery was punishable by death. Modern legal systems typically reserve the death penalty for only the most severe crimes, and many countries have abolished it altogether. Treatment of Women: Women in biblical times were often treated as property and had very few rights. For example, Deuteronomy 22:28-29 describes how a man who rapes a virgin who is not betrothed must pay her father fifty shekels of silver and marry her. 😮 Collective Punishment: In some instances, entire families or groups were punished for the sins of one member. An example is the story of Achan in Joshua 7, where Achan’s entire family and possessions were destroyed because he took forbidden items. Modern justice systems are based on individual responsibility and would see collective punishment as highly unjust. Thankfully. Blood Feuds and Revenge: The concept of “an eye for an eye” (lex talionis) from Exodus 21:23-25 was a form of legal retribution. While it was meant to limit excessive punishment, it still promoted the idea of revenge. 👁️
It’s kinda crazy and cool how it’s so similar to a car engine. I mean you know it’s a combustion engine just easy not to think about the contained explosions going on in there
My uncle lost his leg to a Bouncing Betty in WW2. He explained that because of the extreme cold he was in the ejection system malfunctioned and it only popped up to about knee height.
Back in WW2 they showed this video to all soldiers in the US army. Little did we know this would be the most useful short form video to ever exist. My comrades survived because of this❤❤
A fuse doesn't cause an S-mine to explode mid air, a wire attached to a canister in the ground is pulled on when an explosion propels it into air. Then the wire pulls on a detonator, on the mine mid air causing it to explode out like a frag grenade.
Is it though? Sounds like a lot of additional required work and complexity just to set it up, and an easy way for it to fail to explode. Wikipedia says it was a delay fuse, if it's to be trusted.
The main fuse was designed to delay the firing of the propelling charge for approximately four seconds after the mine was triggered. The explosion of the propelling charge sent the mine upwards into the air and activated three short-delay pellets between the propellant charge and the three detonators. These short-delay pellets delayed the mine's detonation long enough for it to reach an appropriate height before exploding. TLDR: There is a short delay fuse that lights up when the first charge explodes, and causes second explosion. Gemma is wrong.
There was also another variant of this mine. A nice long tripwire was attached to multiple Bouncing Betty's (nickname for the mine in the video) and once someone hit the wire, all mines would jump up at the same time. This was especially effective in forests and small mountain paths to slow down or neutralize large groups of enemies
@@Ram-xr5uj Bosnia. During the Bosnian war, the Serb forces had acces to the armories of the Jugoslav National Army, and the Socialist Jugoslavia kept a lot of WW2 weapons in their stashes, especially landmines mortars and grenades.
