While I don't know what books they wrote, we can guess why Gowalkar rejected the theory. The books were written in the mid 19th century, according to the video. Gowalkar was active in the mid 20th century, definitely after the 1911 census that made uc Hindus rethink of their status. So it's not surprising he would have rejected it.

Till the time of independence, all the upper castes were proud to claim aryan heritage and aryan race theory. But, after partition, they understood that being tagged as "aryan outsider" will become problem for them and their agenda of hindu consolidation to acheive politcial ends which can be used to further UC interests. So, now the tendency among their leaders/intellectuals is to claim that aryan theory is discredited.

Personally I would want high ranking reserved students to go through reserved seats as well because it's getting extremely tough for the unreserved. But I don't expect any step limiting reservation unless the reserved support it too, which is unlikely. It's simply not viable electorally

Rajiv Malhotra is a caste escapist who claims British imposed caste, and we only had varnas which were not by birth. Varnas are definitely not by birth, but that regression to birth happened so long ago that we don't know if and when birth-free varnas ever existed. That said, there is no doubt that the British made the system more rigid - they recruited based on caste, imposed a census. Hence phenomena like Brahmins becoming Shudras because they embraced Sikhi (yes it happened) are a thing of the past. Subramanian Swamy has more realistic views of caste. The main fault lines is between caste groups and Dalits, and reservations alone won't change that, has made things worse in some way because political parties and abrahamic missionaries now want to exploit that faultline.

A certain variation of the caste system existed in South India even before the Aryans came. Take any religious institutions (the Imams, the Vatican, etc.), they tend to become corrupt and greedy as soon as it grows into something worthy of giving up your ideals!
