This was good and very well observed. I think one could say the Influence of UK street fashion has been massive on Japanese fashion, whether you look at the very early Bowie and Glam rock scene, the Mod and Ska scene, definitely the New Romantics and Gothic fashion which originated in the UK with English bands like the Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees etc, the influences these UK youth cults have had in Japanese fashion cannot be overstated. Whether it is influencing Japanese designers or Harajuku street fashion trends. These trends were first bravely tested out in the UK and then later pursued in different directions with passion in Japan. Just one note on Westwood, apart from Punk it could be argued there was no bigger influence in Japan than her Mini-Crini collection from 1985, which brought the crinoline skirt back into fashion. That collection was loved in Japan and if you look at it now you will see how much it influenced what we now see as Japanese fashion like Lolita etc...

Unfortunately every time we do stories like this no many have a lot of interest. We love these kind of topics but it’s hard to pump them out and be satisfied with the return. We’ll make an effort for sure though.

this video is great! i'm preparing for a jury about Yamamoto, more specifically a deeper analysis on the influence that punk had on his design. Thanks for the video!

Surprised you didn't mention Ganguro , I kinda 'see' that as a version of Punk almost [Going against the Pale skin is attractive in Japan idea etc]

Can you please do a history about "bundle" culture(2nd hand bundles that shipped from US, usually) because that culture came to my country during the 80s and became big during 2010s and most of the bundles that arrived are mostly from Japan(due to the size which usually smaller than US/UK measurements). During the 2000s to buy a bundle was about USD200 but rose to USD500 in the 2010s and higher in present market. I want to know if that bundle/2nd culture that came from the US have any influence in J-fashion.

Michelle Gunn! Get well, Chiba! More than the Clash, they were influenced by the Damned and the Cramps.

The background music was kinda off, a little bit distracting. Maybe it should’ve been punk? Very informative video though.

1. The Sex Pistols did not play in Japan in 1977. They did not play in Japan until they reformed in 1996. 2. The Stalin did not exist in 1978. 3. No mention of Friction, Gozira Recs, Gauze, The Comes, ADK Recs, Gism, Selfish Recs....etc....etc...? This video is appalling, please educate yourself.
