1:05 "great question" in my experience, evidence of god's hand in creation merely increases my awe for god's sovereignty, magnanimity, wisdom, might, etc. my faith is increased in subjecting myself to what i understand as his will, his commands. so i agree with dr. petrovich. one value of evidence is to establish that our faith is not blind and it is founded in reality.

Great discussion. Dr. Doug's work CAN increase a person's faith. I can see the refugee Israelites in Egypt devising their own language. Joseph's sons were blessed and intelligent and were quite aware they were different from the Egyptians. Just as immigrants in the U. S. now want to retain their mother country traditions and language to further distinguish them in the host country, America, so did the Israelites in Egypt. Perhaps Joseph's sons wanted to devise a code (new language) in order to afford more private communications among their fellow Israelites.

"hate to be wrong" hate is too strong a word and need to be used for what is sin as god does. we are humans, and we make mistakes, we cannot be right all the time. what we need to have in our hearts is the desire to be corrected when we are wrong. god directs us to do that to others. we need to expect others to do it for us, too. it is truth that sets us free.

48:20 in determining the timing, is it being considered that the israelites have calendars with different number of days in them? they have different number of days to a month (fixed 30 days) when it comes to prophetic time line and 353-385 days depending in a year for secular years. there is also the problem of chronological accounts not based on calendar years but on year of reign. so when the bible states so and so reigned for 4 years it does not mean 365x4+1 days. i believe we only need approximations and not exact dating of events. i think these differences even highlight the phenomenon of the seven day cycle that has never changed and is not subject to any calendar and can be relied that when we say it is the first day of the week, it is the first day of the unchanging weekly cycle since creation.

It´s more than a bit ironic hearing Dr. Petrovich complain about collegues who "dismiss my work out of hand". It is Dr. Petrovich who does not play according to the rules and thrusts his literal bible interpretation on all his findings. The result of this was to be expected: On the one hand scholars in his field of expertise lost interest in his papers, all serious periodicals stopped accepting and publishing them, and on the other hand he became a hero of the evangelical fundamentalists.

The one who said to fear him is to love him or the one who is pure love who knows no evil.
