What do you want us to answer next week? Let us know with #coachescorner

#coachescorner Currently training for first long distance triathlon. I normally commute to work via Bike (13km each way) and once a week Run in or out. How would this impact how much Bike Training you would do (an overall training load)? Also is it still a decent rest day if you cycle 26km (albeit gently)?

Thank you for answering my question. My sprint race is on 24th April so not too late to practice my swim drills. Looking forward to trying out your suggestions this week.

In a book I’ve got by Chris Hoy he recommends a fasted ride that actually starts with ten mins hardcore to burn off any remaining glycogen then the long v low intensity bit (he says two hours) then because he’s a machine he does another ten mins hard at the end (all fasted). I did it once. It was really hard but I felt pretty smug afterwards…till I consumed the equivalent of the bread aisle later in the day.. Pa love your turbo recommendations! I use a puffa jacket at the start to make sure I turn the fan on cos otherwise I freeze and also haaaate the cold.

#gtncoachescorner. When planning an Ironman bike what’s is a better strategy? 1-pushing a bit in areas, on climbs for example, when you feel good thinking that you recover on the downhills 2-think of the bike and run together with your ‘gas tank’ only moving in one way. Use up too much fuel with extra effort on the bike will cost on the run. Basically, you can’t recover the extra efforts on the bike and it will hurt your run Thanks for the great advice!

Hi to all of you, thanks for the nice content and the love you're putting into the videos, I appreciate that a lot. Started Triathlon 2 years ago and in 3 months my first IRONMAN is coming up. Now my training swims going to be longer and the last few times I felt a little of pain in the left elbow. It's only the left one and I have the feeling I'm doing the "high elbow" to much. Can this may cause the pain resulting from a unnatural arm position? Btw doing two stroke breath only to the right. Thanks a lot in advance! Cheers from Austria! Br, Dominik #coachescorner

#GTNcoach'scorner I have a feeling you might have answered this question before but I still struggle with it so I'm going to ask again. When swimming in an open water triathlon how do you choose the right feet to draft off (assuming it's not a seeded start and you have no idea what anyone elses swim times are likely to be) I am quite good at swimming by feel & never look at my watch during the swim but would love to swim faster / easier (as would most probably everyone!) I have a middle distance race in June but am thinking more about the potential energy saving when doing an Ironman swim (hoping to do my first/only next year) thanks

It is a bit longer to be more fat adapted, but for those interested look up Dan Plews.

#coachescorner if injured and unable to run, thus spending more time on the bike, what advice do you have for easing back into running and gauging fitness, ramping mileage back up, etc? What is the safest way to reintroduce running without risking re-injury?

#gtncoachscorner: do you recommend using a Garmin watch such as the Fenix for tracking swim workouts? Are there other wearables you would also recommend?

#coachescorner Hey team. When I'm in the pool I find that when I swim up the pool (25m) I'm always a few seconds slower than I am going back down the pool. I swim with the Form goggles so I see it happening in real time. Even if I try and increase my power/speed during the up direction I'm always slower than when I come down again. It's roughly around 3 seconds of a difference between lengths. It doesn't matter if I do 50m reps or 1000m reps there is always a 3 second difference between up and down no matter how much I try and hold the same effort. And suggestions? Cheers

Hey y'all, i come from a running background and taught me how to swim freestyle by myself. However, i never had the focus on my kick. The other day i thought i should do a few 25m kicks with a kickboard in front. I was not able to complete the full 25m. I was getting tired super fast and moved extremely slow (at the end i almost had the feeling to move backwards). I suspect that my kick does not come from the hips and that my feet are not pointed backwards. Any advice on how to improve my kick starting at zero :D Thanks in advance.

As a swimmer, I recommend: Kick from the hips, keep you hips relatively high in the water, don't bend your knees too much, and have fast feet. Try using a snorkel along with a kickboard to get a good body alignment when kicking.

#coachescorner My kick drills are so much weaker and get less propulsion/less endurance when on my stomach than on my back. Why would that be? Could it be weak hamstrings?

Are there any good exercises for cycling that can be done without a bicycle? I'm currently studying at uni in a different country, and my road bike is back in England... #coachescorner

#coachescorner Hi, I broke my collar bone 2 years ago in a road bike accident. And around 4 months now I’m doing triathlon. I am so eager to switch from roadbike to tt bike but unfortunately I cannot squeeze my shoulder enough to aero position. May I know if there’s any remedy on my problem. Thanks.

no value in the glide? really. ok. was working to build even more glide into my stroke
@drexeldragon1723
@drexeldragon1723 2 года назад
Yea, that confused me as well. When I pull, the opposite arm glides all the way through the recovery of the pulling arm. I've seen video of elite swimmers appearing to do the same thing. My swimming has improved dramatically on the last two months so I'm not going to change anything.

Open water isn’t the same as the pool.
@trbeyond

I understand what she was saying but am not surprised it confused people. You don’t want to have a long glide (especially in open water) but you also don’t want to be putting your hand in the water and pulling down. You went to pull back. So a really short pause so you can anchor your shoulder and elbow and then pull does the trick.
@PhiyackYuh
@PhiyackYuh 2 года назад
@@trbeyond theres always a split second pause even with the best swimmers who prefers higher stroke rate. If you break it down frame by frame, there is simply a glide.
