Love this and all your explanations! My son is 11 and has been fighting Apraxia all his life. He does really great now but I can tell how hard he has to work sometimes to make those words come out. After 8 1/2 years, he has stopped therapy, just has r and s/sh distortions now but often would rather not worry about it and just say it however he says it. People usually can still understand and his friends definitely understand. Thankfully, it has never really limited his ability/desire to be social and he was never really very self conscious about his speech and this has been a huge gift. It is great to hear all this explained from the viewpoint of an adult. I am certainly going to share this with him! Thank you!

Thank you so much! My 4yo noticed today that he talks differently and was really upset. Once we calmed down we watched some of your videos to help explain why he has trouble speaking. You made him feel so much better. He excitedly told me “he’s like me!”

Jordan! You are becoming my Hero! I have to say I have gotten more info within your 2 videos then I have in the last 11 years. Even Branden has been learning more. I have always tried to teach him but hearing it all from someone with Verbal Apraxia is so much different and better! Please keep sharing these videos with the world! The world so needs it!! Branden who is now 14 got so excited to see that you did another video! Thank you! It means the world to us! When Branden was slow moving in his milestones but we figure it was because they always say boy are a bit slower. However when he was about 3 his words were Hi, Bye, Mom, Dad and Ball. One night I put Branden to bed as the child he was. When he woke I heard him playing about but not calling for him like he normally did. Jordan, I went and got my son who looked up at me from his bed, smiled and said "Guh". That was all he could say for a long time cause waiting lists for specialists suck. I was told this was due to the Apraxia. Have you ever heard of that? I am unable to find anything like that on it. What are your thoughts? Stay Awesome! Amy from Apraxia Awareness on FB

My 3 yr old girl was diagnosed with apraxia. Speech therapy has helped her immensely. Since changing her speech approach she has flourished! I would say sign language has really helped too. She is so smart and she’s more confident too with trying more words and connecting it all together. But we introduced sign language at 6 months and we still work on it because it helps everyone involved. Thanks for your videos!

We also say our affirmations daily. I don’t ever want her to doubt how smart and loved she is and she has so much potential “

ASL also seemed to be the thing that helped words click for our child. There is also auditory processing issues. He is very intelligent. Upon being introduced to ASL he had more than 40 words in verbal speech and ASL within the week where before that he almost seemed unable to communicate. He was almost 3 and putting it into his hands helped it come out both physically and orally. He is now much older, jr high, with goals to be a programmer. He could also be a writer, beautiful wording just flows out of him in type and the things he comes up with are so creative. Also he has the patience of a saint and does an amazing job working with children. We found flashcards that showed the mouth helpful for learning to read. Through reading speech also improved. This is just a women reading phonogram flashcards by Logic of English. You could also RU-vid search things like this. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NHQ5lMUMVq0.html

I worry soooo much about my son. I don't want ppl to assume that he's unintelligent. I love him dearly. He just turned 3 and his speech is broadening daily before he couldn't make sounds we are at 3-4 word sentences. Just bliss is what I feel. But if he tries to have a full on conversation it's just babble, and very difficult to understand.

Thank you so much Jordan! Your videos are so great! Do you have any videos meant for the child ? My 7 year old knows he is different. He says he hates his voice. Would love for him to hear how to manage it while at a young age. thanks for all that you do for the Apraxia community!

our twin granddaughters, age 7, both have verbal apraxia. They've improved greatly with speech therapy. I was wondering if when you were younger if you were picked on by classmates and if so, how did you handle that.
@jordanchristian9099
@jordanchristian9099 5 лет назад
Terry Koch so I was, I feel like this would have to be an entirely different video, since my story with that isn’t easy. I do encourage kids who are getting picked on/bullied to tell teachers immediately, and I also encourage them to stand of for themselves. Like, “So what I speak differently?” They are allowed to have a speech difference. They didn’t choose it. I never want young kids or people to put the blame on themselves.

As a apraxia its hard af to respond exactly when I talk to females
@hf15123

I'm a female, and my boyfriend has apraxia. He thought it was difficult to talk to me in the beginning but as we got closer he said it became easier. And to be honest, I barely noticed that he had trouble, so when he told me I had no idea what he was talking about. So don't stress it, if there is a female who likes you, she won't care. :) hope this helps.

I understand all your words and don't find your speech different enough to discuss or bring up. Your speech is not that different from someone with an accent.
