Appreciate what you're trying to do. But, you have a tin ear for English sounds. Lick does not have a long E sound in it, for example. The i in lick sounds like the i in (Eng) Literature.

Im Australian too and obviously day to day I don't notice Aussie accents. But when I try speaking Spanish it's like, damn, the Aussie accent is thick, haha. Especially on words like amigo. The go at the end is really hard not to emphasise. Muchos gracias para el video. Es ayuda grande.

If I hear the rr a lot I can roll good. Mom who knew Spanish told me to repeat arroz con pollo. She said it a lot before she stopped so I could say it. If I hear the rr rolled a lot I can get it. But like your tip. That’s usually how it comes out of me.

Yes! I searched for this video because I have been trying to learn Spanish for some time. One of my coworkers told me I had a "bad" accent. This really disappointed me. But I am hoping I can "fix" that! Yes, I was thinking of giving up.

Thank you for this. For some reason, in the US at least, Spanish language learners have convinced themselves that "ay" rather than "eh" is the appropriate sound for "e." Someone even tried arguing with me about it. I'm like, not only is that my first language, but my mom was a Spanish teacher and my dad got his master's in Spanish literature and was the lead interpreter for the US district courts. 😆

I agree with you. See Margarita, there A LOT OF YT CHANNELS with people teaching Spanish teaching the INCORRECT Pronunciation, I'm glad that you re aware about this. Your parents are truly qualified in Spanish. You're very fortunate to have them....Saludos amiga :)

I don't understand that either because it's not like we don't have the "eh" sound in English. It's not like the rolled "rr," which some people legitimately can't do. Your comment reminds of a time when I was listening to the radio and the DJs were having a discussion about whether "piña" should be pronounced "pina" or "pinya," to which I thought, "You mean correctly or incorrectly? Because this is not a debatable issue." We Americans aren't too bright...
@MargaritaOnTheRox
@MargaritaOnTheRox 2 года назад
@@fortheloveoflanguageandwri4962 lol....have that discussion regarding how to pronounce años. Then it's a matter of years versus anuses! I agree I really don't get it, either. I tell people it's the same "e" sound as in get and let. I've tried to teach my husband how to roll his r to make an rr sound, but he just can't.

I’m confused. Is it always yo no hablo? Or can we say no hablo or is it interchangeable?

How about the tapped “R” when it occurs next to an “L” as it does in Carlos? Often, I can tap the “R” easily in other words, but not in Carlos.

I just watched and liked this video. It is always good to practice pronunciation. On the other hand while this is a great beginner lesson it was a little to easy for me. I am seeing more and more people claiming that California has its own dialect of Spanish. In other words people who grew up here and who have parents that came from a Spanish speaking country. I really liked the hard part at the end where you spoke in Spanish. I don't want to be selfish. It is important for you to make beginner level stuff. I was a beginner at one time my self. So I don't mind you doing beginner level stuff for the beginners. For me the hardest thing is listening to the fast speaking native speakers. For example native speakers speaking on television. It is so hard for me to tell where one word ends and the next one starts. But thanks for all your hard work, it never hurts to practice pronunciation and all of us have room for improvement. keep up the good work. Your number of subscribers is growing.
