How do you remake a game many consider to be a masterpiece? In our conversation with Resident Evil 4 (Remake)'s Director Yasuhiro Ampo and Game Director Kazunori Kadoi, we learned a few of the ways the team at Capcom is attempting this. From quality-of-life improvements and updated controls to a new knife system and parry mechanics, they've done quite a lot; and you can learn about it in the video below.

If they really cared they provided at least to release the mercenaries mode but hirabayashi are not even a RE3 fan considering that he blocked most of the RE3 fanbase on his twitter account and capcom chief said that he was not surprised for the lack of sales of RE3R because he didnt saw "any profits" but he is an ignorant because the game didnt selled due to the worst result.

I want it expanded upon, all the og characters and maps and more. Would be cool to be able to play as the Merchant and Luis. Be even better if they allowed you to go through the main game with the characters upon unlocking them in mercenaries even if it doesn't make sense lore-wise.

If it follows the RE Village schedule PS4/PS5 users will get the demo 3 weeks before release and the multi platform demo will be on the 18th March but hopefully it's sometime this week or next week

QTE's, when done correctly for immersion, are still viable in games today. However, it's with the survival horror genre specifically, where they tend to just pull you out of the immersion and lower the fear-factor, so I'm glad that they identified that and chose to remove them in exchange for new parry/deflect mechanics and actual dodging maneuvers

It definitely would make sense to upgrade the knife to it's maximum durability as soon as possible being that parrying and stealth kills are a thing now- and since those are things players will be doing often enough.

Indeed the knife was so crucial in the original. Professional mode required you to master knee shots to preserve the ammunition which was more scarce. So excited for the inventory management survival horror GOAT to return!

This looks like everything I wanted from a Resi 4 remake. I remember being in awe 17 years ago while playing the original, and even now I can appreciate what a masterpiece of a game it is. Thank goodness for this remake. I’ll be honest: conceptually, I think RE4’s great, but the gameplay just bogged it down for me. I don’t HATE the control scheme & physics, but boy are they dated as hell. In my eyes, this game’s been long overdue for a re-haul and I’m glad it’s being done

the new parry mechanic exactly mirrors the strength of the OG game; universal mechanics. This is why Resi 4 is one of the best action games I've played. The mechanics are so consistent and not arbitrary.

Very interesting looking back on this over a year after the game is out. They basically voiced everything I feel about the game. Love swerving between attacks and all the new enemy behaviors - you’re constantly re-reading the situation. Even did a Pro NG No Hit playthrough (without any silly cheese tactics). You really get an appreciation for how dynamic and fully realized all the enemies are. It’s an addicting game with stunning depth, but wow it’s going to set a high standard for future entries.

Infinite weapons are normally unlocks but the original did have what’s called and exclusive for every gun at the end of upgrading the gun it always cost a shit ton and required multiple playthrough to get them all but man did it feel good going through the game with an attaché case with an arsenal of maxed out weapons the exclusives were a cool edition and were normally unique to each weapon like making the striker shotgun have a hundred round magazine for example

I would like to see in REmake 4 completely new locations and bosses, that were not in the original, in addition to the old recycled content. That would be pretty awesome! I liked the new enemy Minotaur from gameplay trailers. I hope Remake will bring even more such surprises!

There is plenty that can be improved. The remake is a perfect opportunity to improve the dialogue and character interactions, flesh out certain characters and give them more of a purpose, expand more on the story. They can make the parasite feel like more of an actual threat and affect the characters more heavily. Based on what we've seen so far the developers seem to be making these exact improvements, which is fantastic.

The only thing that looks bad is the aiming and shooting. In original re4 it was so fluid and crisp. In this the guns seem to pack a punch but its slowed down and tedious.

What I appreciate and love about this interview is that the devs were fully aware of the original Re4 being a masterpiece and not wanting to remake it because it would be a very difficult task. I appreciate that they were honest about not wanting to do a remake since if the game wasn't as grand then they knew their would be backlash. And I also love that after deciding to remake the game they went ahead and replayed the original to get a feel of what made Re4 great to begin with.

One of the things I've noticed is, in many modern games even though the graphics are good the hair kinda looks little buggy. But this game definitely seems to make the hair look good making it more closer to realism

@Rick Ross spot on, the deflect system looks out of place. Also making Leon so insecure and unsure of himself seems to be a fad amongst the younger crowd. I didn’t like the wording “lieutenant Krauser” it makes it seem like he’s a higher rank than Leon when originally they both went through the academy training at the same time and held the same rank in the previous game. It takes away all rivalry

It’s probably going to be very good, but I’m still only pre ordering the steelbook edition (same price as standard edition). Not getting the Collector’s Edition. RE2 Remake Collector’s Edition had some cool physical props from the game. This one has less physical items and mostly digital stuff. Plus after RE3 and RE8 it’s not certain which aspects of Capcom we’ll get. The greedy type, or the brilliantly executed one. Probably a bit of both. Some of the pre-order bonus content locking is real stinky. Capcom gotta stop the 🧢.

My immediate concern I'm noticing in every gameplay trailer, is despite their talk of updating gameplay systems, the shooting looks positively horrible in this remake. It looks floaty with little precision or weight to it, akin to how RE8 played, if they're remaking things from the ground up, I'd seriously hope that the moment to moment gameplay doesn't become ass for the sake of looking cinematic
