An away loss to one of the contenders who played out of their skin isn’t overly concerning, assuming a response is given against the dogs this week. Hope we can get the win for Crippas 200th as he’s given us so much over the last decade. Go blues💙

so...GWS disgustingness followed by a loss to an undermanned doggies...another aberration?

Strange contest. Giants kicked 14 of their 18 goals in the 2nd and 3rd terms. The Blues kicked 13 of their 16 goals in the 1st ad 4th terms. I don't mind these sort of games, even when we lose the game. There are lots to take out of this contest. We had structures and tactics tested in the middle of the game. Likewise the Giants had their issues at the start and ending of this game. It's better to go through this test now, than having it emerge in finals. Both teams went from heaven to hell

Definitely agree, maybe if we come across the Giants at some point in the finals series, hopefully we see a resolution to this performance in action

@@Sab.batical I think we will. It was pleasing to see how the group responded in the second clash against the cats this year. A good sign that they are analysing and reviewing wins and losses in detail and taking lessons from them. I definitely see a stronger Carlton "team" this year compared to 2023. The long injury list we had at the start of the year could have derailed the season and put a lot pressure on making finals - looks like the coaches and players saw it as a challenge. And it did give opportunities for other players to step up in different roles. Finals are a different animal all together. Anything is possible by any team on any given day so players need to be prepared and ready for anything.

Sounds like Villa has signed Onana from the Toffees. Seems a good pick up for Unai to develop. Why would Everton sell him? UTV and the Blues

we were lazy and sloppy and some bad selections. Cotters and both Hollands were not supplying pressure, Cerra looks sore and slow and Acres was turning it over early in the game - all signs of our 2023 'rubbish' period... Walsh played a stinker, and seriously, Weiters gets a corky and the rest of the team become witch-hats? Their no-name mids smashed us, they were running and running all night. Letting Jesse Hogan, AFLs biggest HACK kick 5 goals so easily was complete SHITE! We are a flimsy team if we let hack play as rock stars for the first time all season. I mean sitting in on Pom's watch along was frustrating because WE could see the Orange Tsunami swelling along, but the BUMS on the field couldn't! Then was too-little too late in the last quarter. That 3rd quarter was the same shit we have seen for a decade, the same shit we brought to Sydney, it was bloody garbage! Hopefully they have 'learnt' something and bounce back big time against the Doggies and our last 6 or so games.

Everyone focusing a bit too much on the 2 bad qtrs. GWS also had 2 bad quarters but we were just switched off a little bit more in their run, hence the 2 goal win. I personally think what won em the game were the red time goals in each of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd qtr. All could have easily been avoided, especially the last in the 3rd qtr which was the crucial one to put it outside the magical 5 goal at 3qtr time mark. 6 goals means you are home. Lets see how we respond tomorrow.

Like most here, I think this is an aberration. There is a lesson to be learned and that is there are 4 quarters to the game. A general area of improvement based on this game is managing opposing pressure and not losing composure. The Boston Celtics had some ugly losses but always came back the next game and fixed what went wrong. Carlton needs to do the same.

Not ideal obviously, but for me it’s an outlier at this point. Can wait for Crippas 200th. Go Blues!

The boys need to gee themselves up and play with the same application Crippa has for that 200. Go Blues 💙

We’ll see if it is an outlier. If we bounce back this weekend, than I might agree.

@@LomuHabana the second spot on the ladder and our win loss record considering our draw and injuries says it’s an outlier

I'm curious what you thought of the 4th quarter. Seemed like we had a chance - did you notice any changes in our structure or performance that contributed to that?
@Sab.batical
@Sab.batical 2 месяца назад
Definitely retained possession a bit better off memory - I didn’t really look at the 4th quarter but it also helped that Charlie got involved more on our attacking chains - the smalls weren’t doing a ton so we needed Charlie to wake up & maybe bring the smalls along with him as well

Ite felt like the combination of weitering going off whilst they started to get their tails up killed our confidence aerially throughout that period. Perceived pressure came into it as well, their pressure was outstanding and whenever we got the ball, we just blazed away.
@Sab.batical

In my opinion, I think they got the matchup wrong from the outset because Kemp was playing on Hogan from practically start to finish, it wasn’t a forced change. We’ll see how they use Weiters this week depending on how much of a burden the niggle is - will he benefit more from roaming loose or jostling with an opponent (relies more on upper body strength than the running element in this case)
@billycooper4690
@billycooper4690 2 месяца назад
@Sab.batical he's an elite one on one player for sure, I agree but I think McGovern having a niggle and having to switch his role when weiters went off to being a pure defender rather than interceptor/rebounder definitely didn't help. Kempy was out of his depth aerially for sure. Maybe Marchbank will provide a better balance for weiters to pick and choose his moments. Love your analysis and content BTW dude! 👌
