I loved Wentz, he's talented, but dude cant get out of his own way. The decision making at times was just abysmal, and for as tough as he was physically on the field, he was mentally fragile and didnt like hard coaching (or coaching in general). He definitely wasnt the only reason we were struggling in 18 and 19, but hearing him say every week "Ive gotta play better" and then doing the same ish was beyond frustrating.

We should give Wentz some credit. He made Alston Jeffery look like a competent wide receiver
@DaVaughnRobinson

This leaves out the fact that he would refuse to run plays that the coaches called for him, became insanely paranoid about being replaced by his back ups, and got his coach fired just to leave the team anyway. He's the Ben Simmons of football. Tons of talent, but the wrong mentality to be successful consistently

I don't follow the NBA but you're likely right. I saw in another mini-doc about him that throughout his life he always thought that he was the Smartest Guy in the Room. (I always love it when humble religious believers have Huge Egos that can't take the slightest reality). So even while the Best Way to restore his ego to full was to succeed, Big Egos are what Little Boys have to compensate. He needed to do things _his_ way because then it would be His Victory. People like this have zero capacity to be a team player & what we heard a year or two after leaving Philly shows that this was the problem. Telling him what's better for the team Does Not Register with him. His ego will always ask "but what about what _I_ want?" Like a needy four-year-old. It never once occurred to him that if he couldn't do better than Nick Foles in the same system that he'd be regarded as worse than Nick Foles. Not too bright & just does not care enough about anyone other than himself to correct this. Otherwise I'd suggest that the Jets give him a call.

I still think he could have come back from injury, remember when either alshon or agholor kept making twitter burners and talking shit saying he got nobody to get him the ball? I think Wentz’ real downfall came when foles stepped up in the playoffs and took us on that magical run. The team played hard for nick and they all naturally fell under him. He was a better leader, and sometimes that’s what is most important, Wentz was a phenomenal athlete but he’s no Jalen Hurts or Bryce Harper you know what I mean? But yeah I think the injuries weren’t as big as a factor in his downfall then nick foles was

Not brought up enough is: the unknown. We are not privvy to all conversations from the NovaCare complex, or the locker room. What we DO know is: Rookie season - showed potential 2017 season - MVP caliber, ACL injury, Foles wins SB 2018 season - Foles has shaky start, Wentz returns, another injury (back). 6-7 eagles (Foles) win final three games to go 9-7, have the double-doink victory over Chicago before falling to #1 seed Saints 20-14 2019 season - Wentz throws to Walmart cashiers, and Eagles win the division. Seahawks' Clowney hit on unprotected Wentz in playoffs knocks him out of the game with a concussion 2020 season - COVID season, he's bad (bunch of yes-men coaches around him replaced Reich and DeFilippo, who had left after SB). Traded to Indy 2021 season - 27/7 TD/INT ratio, but loses final two games and Colts miss playoffs. Talk about his attitude, teammate reactions, and Irsay all over the place. 2022 season - With Commanders, up and down, festering problems. He might get ONE more opportunity to start, then it'll be back up roles or retirement for him. Which is sad, bc I still appreciate what he did as an Eagle. At a certain point, a man has to get out of his own head and heed the guidance and feelings of others.

Wentz didn't fall off hard. No one k ows how to see the context at all. Wentz was the a top 12 QB in 2018, top 11 QB in 2019, in 2020 he did what he had to do to leave Philly, then in 2021 he was a top 10 QB and got traded because Jim Irsay wanted his whole team to get the jab but Wentz refused like a true leader, then in 2022 Wentz was named team captain and was top 5 in both passing yards and passing TDs thru the 1st 5 games before breaking his finger in week 6. Wentz never fell off. He just never had a real organization listen to common sense instead of fabricated media narratives. Wentz went from top 5 in the entire league in passing yards and passing TDs for 98% of his games in 2022 and now people think that he's not worth even a 3rd string job? That's clearly bullshit

The real turning point was the heinous head spearing injury he suffered from that Clowney Criminal in the playoff game against Seattle. Any rational man might lose his focus and nerve after a head injury. His season up to that point indicated his return from the previous knee injury. Clowney should've been banned from the NFL for intentional injury to Wentz's head.

Other points: Tremendous ego problem made him uncoachable reuniting with Reich did not help Wanted to make the “big play” instead of the right play Didn’t endear himself to his teammates Never progressed in his ability to read defenses which made him predictable Lacked accountability in the media (another team chemistry killer) Bad footwork in the pocket that his athleticism used to hide but the injuries took that away Lack of weapons was the LEAST of his issues🤷🏽

People underestimate his personality. He isn't an asshole, he is a super Christian god fearing man. He's not into hip hop or metal like teammates are but Christian music. He's not relatable. He's not going to join his teammates at dinner or eat with them. He's just not that dude. Hed rather be hunting in the mountains. Unfortunately that doesn't work well in a locker room. But that Injury changed him. His mobility was gone and after that clowney hit he was never close to ok.

Wentz was a scapegoat. He played back to back seasons of not a lot of starters & one year, a little over a year plus, it was just him & Kelce as starters with the rest being bench players & they still won games. He signed a $128 million dollar contract then they draft his replacement instead of a WR or OL. Pretty much the same in DC & Indy too. DC doesn’t have a lot of star power , just a handful of them. In Indy, I saw one game on tv, they were winning, defense broke, they lost, they only blamed Wentz the next day.

The guy insisted on playing a college game. In the NFL you do not take unnecessary chances. There is too much money and much bigger and powerful defensemen involved. I would cringe constantly when watching him play. And then he got severely injured. Surprise! Clearly he was stubborn, and that leads to questions about his leadership and his mindset. He came back from the injury a lesser QB and still played like he was way better than he actually was. No weapons? Really? Nick Foles took those same weapons and won a Super Bowl. Every QB has periods where weapons are lacking. But they adjust their style of play according to the people around them. Wentz couldn’t do that. Very stubborn guy.

Wentz was his own poison. Winning in Philly hid the fact he was a cancer in the locker room. One of the biggest that no one really dug into was, he only developed relationships with the white guys. Maybe he wasn't comfortable with the brothas, I mean he did live in North Dakota and go to school North Dakota State, neither of which have any diversity. Whatever the case it became an issue. Alshon made reference to the fact that Ertz was getting most of the passes. Others did not eat until Nick took over. Then there was the audibles. Wentz thought he was Manning and changed most plays regardless of the need. He didn't listen when criticized and rarely took responsibility when he played poorly. Last, he had a fit when Jalen was picked in the 2nd round and tried to freeze him out. He's never been a team player. When that happens you don't get the support you need when things go wrong. Word travels fast in the league, trust me, players knew about Wentz before he got to their team.

My honest opinion of all of this is that Carson Wentz is responsible for the downfall of Carson Wentz. Sure injuries played a factor, but his stubbornness above everything else is what caused his downfall. After he tore his ACL Wentz openly admitted he wasn’t gonna change the way he played. And as we saw he didn’t. This guy didn’t know how to throw the football away when he got in trouble and he never seemed to change that and that caused numerous sacks, numerous interceptions, and numerous poor decisions. So obviously that is going to lead to coaches distrusting Wentz. The whole no weapons thing I’m not buying to much since Alshon Jeffrey was probably the best receiver he played with and he still helped lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl win

Carson Wentz is a former 2nd overall pick coming out of North Dakota State. I wonder why people don’t talk about him when he was in the NFL. He is still the most valuable piece as a dual-threat as well as a signal-caller quarterback. He is still 30 years old and has yet to play on a NFL team. He is currently a free agent at the moment. He stood 6 foot 5 and 237 pounder who had a lot more to offer to a team. He also had a problem with his offensive line or didn’t have enough weapons around him. He also had a problem with injuries that was keeping him from playing to his full potential. I would see why NFL teams don’t wanna sign him this season.

What usually happens is a tiger can't change it's stripes, so bringing him in to save the Jets season could be a risky proposition; but you have to think he'd be better than the worst starting QB in the league right now.

Imagine if he didn’t get injured and went on to win the MVP and the Super Bowl. He would then have the internal confidence that would carry him for the coming years. And if Howie would have drafted the correct receivers (Metcalf and Justin Jefferson), then he could have had real success and maybe another SB. It’s rarely just one thing in team sports, but he can say that he has the ring and a whole lot of money from his career.
@TheCountofToulouse
@TheCountofToulouse 11 месяцев назад
Consider that Wentz and Goff came out in the same year and look what Goff is doing. Wentz was never the same after the injury in Philly and Philly really handled that VERY poorly. Carson was on an MVP path before the Rams hit that took him out, setting up Foles to usurp the hero gravitas. Put yourself in HIS shoes, all he did was give it his all and Philly treats him like chopped liver when he gets hurt? That was the first knock and the hits just kept coming after that. The bright side is that he's made MORE money than I've ever made, he should be fine. It's not like he's going back to have to shovel crap or wash dishes in some crappy restaurant.

I do feel kinda bad for Wentz. He got the Eagles to the playoffs, then the backup went on the playoff run, beat Brady for the team's first ring, and he's the one they built a statue of. I wouldn't have wanted to show my face there again either.

I used to love wentz. I was a huge fan of his. I used to say the same thing. But after some time, and after seeing hurts lead this team, it’s night and day. If wentz couldn’t get his mind right after that, he wasn’t meant to be the eagles leader. Hurts seems like more of a leader than wentz ever was. This is coming from someone that hated trading away wentz and going with hurts.

@@mattL---I still hate that we did that I will never be ok with that if wentz had the weapons hurts had in the Super Bowl last year we would have another ring because after 2019 and wentz taking us to the playoffs with practice squad players and and a qb turned receiver his help in 2020 draft his rewarded is jalen reagor who we all seen did absolutely nothing and everyone has agreed that was a wasted pick and also not to mentioned you pick jalen hurts instead of dk metcalf who could have really helped wentz and yes I also agree eagles may be the only team in nfl history who built a shrine to there back up qb and just forget who got you the number one seed in nfc and home field advantage because if files had to go into another stadium that year we losing so I will never forget what wentz did

This dude did no research. LoL, he was a terrible teammate who was, let's say not comfortable with most of the guys in the locker room. He didn't take criticism at all and was a excuse machine. Other QBs won with the same talent. If Alshon doesn't drop a perfect pass Nick probably would have taken that team to the SB.

ik wentz wasnt the same after his 2017 season but the colts gave up on him way too early, ik he gave fans heart attacks play in and play out (every play felt like a career ender) but he still played well throughout most of the season and all that was done in just a little time of him getting to know the system, the colts teammates loved him and were genuinely excited for him, if he stayed for another year he probably would have found some sort of success in indy

Let’s be frank here, you can't blame anyone but Carson for his downfall. This guy is his own worst enemy, point blank, from his play to his attitude to his leadership. When your locker room builds a shrine to your backup it speaks volumes.
