Cashmere is not just "wool, but better." It has very different properties. It is not as elastic as wool, which means cashmere garments tend to lose their shape overtime. And while it's quite light, the drooping of the fabric can make it feel heavy. In my experience cashmere is best when mixed with wool. You get the sturdiness of wool and the added softness and warmth of cashmere. Merimo/cashmere/nylon (MCN) is best if you want an easy-wear product.

I don't know what wool it is but my lord the sweater is still as fine as the day it was bought. I have worn it multiple times over a period of two decades and even now when I wear it after washing it people think it is just a year old. I feel like it’s called cashmere bc it was probably imported from Kashmir or at least that’s what westerners thought and so they eventually started calling it cashmere, since they English people would eventually just spell it how it sounded to them. It’s probably sort of like how the American Turkey was called a Turkey by Europeans because they thought it tasted similar to and reminded them of the Guinea fowl they imported from the Ottoman Empire/Turkey.

If you're really an environmentalist and animal lover you'd have investigated about this entire business than accusing others of cruelty. What do you survive on so far? You also need to eat. Why would they? Wool, cashmere, etc are sustainable, eco friendly, and biodegradable and the animals absolutely MUST be well cared for to produce it. Harvesting it is necessary for the animal's well being. It's simply a byproduct of necessary animal husbandry; if it's not utilized, it can simply be given back to the earth (earthworms love the stuff for food and birds use it to line their nests). Animal fiber is a great example of symbiosis; the animals are protected and provided for and in return we benefit from the hair they would naturally shed in nature (they no longer need to because we take care of them). Why put more toxic plastic in landfills when this beautiful relationship already exists?!
