so u can have a an old ugly shit riding mustang? no thanks, drop an extra 10 and get a spaceship of a mustang instead, better car in every single way, u must be 15 and not value a well made comfortable car, wait until ur older
@@5.7jason Hi guys I have a 2006 4.6 2v Lincoln town car. I was wondering what it would take to completely swap a gen 2 coyote paired with a 6r80 trans or a gen 3 paired with a 10r80 trans? I'm just wondering what extra parts I would need. Besides the ecu and gas pedal etc. And the cost of all of them. And where I could order all of them. please and thank you.
@@hotrodlincoln7186 4-8k on the motor depending on what it came out of either a truck or mustang and miles ofc plus the trans but if you can find a combo package it’ll be better honestly your looking at 12-14k build when u consider the wiring harness for the engine reconnecting the hoses fuel lines and everything else
Would do that too, sadly my 02 daily driver, finally gave out at 254,xxx miles. And actually it's just PATS giving me issues, code p1260 and won't start... theft light is on and the mileage shows dashes...
@Dog King not me they can keep their 100,000 dollar non manual transmission having overweight gt500 lol. It's a great performing car but that isnt all it's about for me. I can have an equal or better performing manual trans car for alot less money and have alot more fun lol. Dct takes a shit there goes 20 grand. They can keep it. You could do a wicked coyote swapped new edge for 20 grand all in price of the car included and I mean fully upgraded front to back. That would be pretty damn sweet.
"How much does it cost to swap a new edge with a Coyote, grab a sandwich and let's dive in." One of the most American intro's I've heard. I love it. Keep up with the great content!
Likea Boss obviously you’ve never played football buddy lol, it has nothing to do with him being a mechanic, I said the way he explains stuff so well he could coach. They go hand and hand
$5400 is cheaper than I thought it would be. I last checked on buying a used Coyote truck motor 3-4 years ago and the prices were far more expensive then. This was very informative.
Not a bad price at all sir. This New Edge build has been one of my absolute favorites! Great coverage. Also I know a guy with an X pipe if you want one for 4TO8. It might be a semi famous X Pipe too 😉
@@miketheplumber448 No, I meant I would donate Caleb's X-Pipe to project 4 to 8 if he wanted it, but I see he is already going for a new H pipe instead.
I have sourced a Coyote for 2,000. Going into a 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 fastback. This is gonna be good! His numbers are spot on! I did many Cobra/GT swaps over the years. This is the absolute best deal for power on a budget. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
It's not. Doing it right will cost you 10-15k. Also buying junkyard motor out of truck could be good deal or bad deal. He talked about things rearing their ugly head once you start tearing into you car. Same can be said about the motor you bought.
I'm personally a 4.6 guy myself but I never did realize just how cheap a coyote is, that said I know my stock block 4.6 with good internals will hold more than a gen 1 coyote bottom end (in the neighborhood of 3k+ with enough boost, the right heads, internals that can hold it, etc. I'd go coyote if I just wanted cheap power, but I want top grade power and I particularly want to keep my displacement because it's cooler to have a fast 4.6 in my opinion, I can tell all the 6.2 camaros they just got gapped by four and a half liters.
1998 Mustang GT (manual) I live in Canada. Been toying with the idea of doing this swap... this video has solidified my decision to commit. Thank you very kindly for this video.
@@Super6-Four it dont cost 3 times more lol. It wouldn't cost that much if you bought a brand new crate engine. It could very easily be done with the number he listed if you do your own work. If you buy used you might even be able to do it for less.
@@midnight347 a crate engine costs over 6k what are you talking about. Then the control pack adds more cost. Exhaust manifold, fuel system. Its already over the 5400 it took to do this build...what about suspension mods ? Having that much power on stock suspension is asking for trouble
@@Super6-Four I'm well aware what a crate engine costs. You said 3 times more that would be over 15 grand. Even with a crate and brand new control pack if you know what you're doing and dont throw money away on stuff you dont need theres no way the swap is gonna come anywhere near 15k. Now you're adding suspension costs and stuff to the "engine swap" totals? I know you need suspension too that is true with any car you add power to including ls swaps and others. What were talking about here is the cost to get a coyote engine into your new edge and get it tuned and up and running properly. You shouldn't even sniff 15k to do the swap if you have any knowledge at all about what to get and where to get it. You might get up over 10k if you start with a crate engine and pay a shop to do it for ya, sure. I just dont see it being anywhere near triple the price he quoted regardless of the route you take.
Excellent video. I’ve owned everything for 65 Coupe, 66 convertible, 99 Cobra, a 2015 50th Anniversary GT. Currently, my daily is a 2003 V6. I give you props for a no nonsense cost analysis and would like to see your next video on this car with this Coyote on the road.
I just bought a 00’ GT and you are 100% correct about it being a fun car to drive. Thank you for getting straight to the point on the price of the build, you definitely changed my mind about forced induction for the ole 2v. This swap is definitely something I’ll consider, I just wish I had the tools or resources to do the swap myself.
The 70 thumbs downs come from people that cant handle the truth! Engine swaps are fun, but they're not free. but the Coyote swap appears to be relatively affordable as far as engine swaps go, for the level of power you get! Great Video!
Is it that expensive tho? You buy a nice GT/V6 for like 5 grand. You swap that Coyote engine in there. And you get yourself a very cool ride for a little more than 11 grand. You will spend WAY more on a stock 2 valve to at least wake it up. There are 350Z's for sale for more than 25 friggin grand. That's a very good swap indeed.
Johnny Langton went 12.98 with a *3800* lb thunderbird with non pi heads, a pi intake manifold, and pi camshafts through the 4r70 auto. He had less in his combo than a lot of peoples pi swaps and drove the car as well as towed a trailer with it. Fwiw, 4v swaps can make the power of a stock coyote for way less money but do you "need" the power for the goals? Ive seen stock aviator engines dyno over 360whp in a gt only mod being off-shelf comp 106100's. You dont need 350whp to have fun in a sn95, or new edge
@@madmod I’m not saying it’s the best buy imaginable, I’m just saying it is not a bad way to spend your money at all. You are going to spend a lot more on a nice Mach I/Cobra with that 4v engine. You are not getting anything better for 11 grand.
Definitely in my plan after watching this I’m not wasting my time on 2v power. I was going to slap on a supercharger but forget it. This is the better way.
96-04 v6's manuals running can be found all day long for $500-$800, I'd rather just get one of those, gut it and beat it til it dies, $500 down the toilet oh well. Find some hills and winding roads, you wont even get to 4th gear, but you will be having a blast. Also keep a bicycle in the trunk in case it breaks down and just ride the bike home lmao. In all seriousness if you are doing it yourself you can get away with a swap for $5k-$8k, if you are not doing it yourself you will spend $12k-$20k with all the help from different shops that you will need. Great breakdown video though!
WOW!!!!! Way less than I would have expected. I've considered a swap on my S197, but thought it would be cheaper to add a supercharger......now I'm not so sure. Thanks for all the great material and information you guys provide.
There's a guy that built a non Pi block with ported Pi heads and intake with a procharger ham retainers valves and Springs and was upwards of 600 horse it's on RU-vid so for about the same price you could get a lot more power have the chop from a cam supercharger you get the blow off noise and a whole heck of a lot of less work and stress so it's really your preference because these two valve Motors can make a lot of power
@@likaboss302 even if you did it yourself good luck finding parts for cheap. No offense to the Foxcast but he has access to lift, has connections which is why its 5400 USD FOR HIM to do. Not for us.
Harbinger I mean my grandfather has a garage he used to tune up cars and do his own restorations in with a two post lift so with him me my dad and my grandfathers best friend which is like my second grandfather we could do it in a couple weekends
@Harbinger also I mean yea it would be a little more expensive than what he quoted because I would go atleast gen 2 but overall I think 3500 I could find a lower mileage gen 2
For anyone who wants to know for a v6 all you need to do is swap over the transmission from a gt or build your t5 to handle more power.... also need to swap the rear end... really your looking at like 8k and that’s light imo
I have been debating getting a new edge for years and doing some sort of engine swap. I was thinking LS due to cost, thinking a 5.0 would be way too expensive. This is my first time watching your channel and I appreciate this video! Definitely gonna be watching the build videos.
A 4v 5.4 is much cheaper, and can make similar power to the coyote, plus more torque. A remanufactered one is about $3,500. Or pull one out of a 99-04 Navigator
Coyote swap and cheap does not mix well. I have a 2000 GT that I coyote swapped and it was around 11k dollars in just motor transmission and control pack wiring. I did all the work myself and saved big time in labor. I figured I would save some money doing it myself so I didn’t go cheap on the parts and motor. I put a zero mile turn key crate engine in. The transmission I got a low mile one and it works great. Was it worth it ?HELL Yeah!!!
I agree 100%! So many "little" things are left out of all these videos that run costs up. Funny how nobody explains the details. I'm doing my 2002 GT now and yes it's doable, but the little things will eat up time/money. You can't do it cheap unless it's all free to you! 😉
unfortunately these aren't long island ny prices where everything mustang people think is made out of gold. Ive had to go out of state multiple times. you have to figure out what your time is worth. I get big buck per hour lol
Cheapest engine option I found is to get a wrecked mustang, preferably rear end collision, and pull it yourself. Also it saves time to build the engine as much as you’d like before putting it in.
I have seen plenty of Supercharged 4.6 Mod Motors make around 425 RWHP....mine (NON-Intercooled) is tuned to 390 RWHP for reliability. I think I will swap in a built Short Block and Intercooler and tune it to 430 and save some money and hassle!
Keep in mind almost nobody has a full hydraulic lift to drop the engine out below which drastically simplifies the swap. Any shop wanting to do this would probably ask for a small fortune to do so. About how many hours would someone bill for this?
I have a completely stock 03 2v motor with a kenny bell supercharger that is turned all the down making 455 WHP and is capable of 650-700 WHP with a built mmr motor lol point is the 2v is capable of making plenty of power for street application !!!
Back in the day it cost me 4 grand just to rebuild my 97 cobra engine stock when it failed...that was total payin someone to build it, for parts and the install. This was circa 2005. I would have gave anything if these coyotes existed then for this price i would have dove in and gained 100+ hp lol.
Yep. I can sympathize. I’m working on a 71 mustang I picked up. It has a 351 Cleveland. I’ve put enough money to get it started and driveable after 11 years sitting but find myself weighing the cost of rebuilding it with better parts and bore and stroke it out vs swapping in a coyote or saving up for a crate Godzilla engine to swap in. Let alone the cost of the rest of the restoration. At least I don’t have to worry about emissions.
I understand that you couldn’t give exact numbers but you did a great job of breaking it down for me. This exactly what I want to do. It doesn’t have to be a beast but I like surprising people that don’t expect my car to be quick.
Fantastic series of videos swapping a Coyote into a New Edge SN95. This video does a nice job summing it all up. Only question I had was whether the stock 5-speed trans is up to the task of handling the Coyote 5.0 even with an upgraded clutch - Long term can the 5 speed really work and hold the torque over time or do you recommend moving up to a 6 speed? Thanks
Easily 10K in parts doing it the right way, plus price of car if needs to be purchased and probably labor hours. At least a 20K project , and this is not adding any performance parts. I would love to own a fox with a coyote swap tho. One day!!! I will. Btw you guys do amazing work keep up the good work 👍🏼👍🏼
I have an 01 GT Automatic with 90K original miles. I’m second owner of car. The car is on my channel. I’m in Middle TN. I understand the numbers you mentioned were not for an automatic. Would y’all consider doing an automatic? Drop me a comment if so. Thank you.
I got lucky and got a great deal on a Votrech V3 kit ($1500 never installed. with everything except boostapump.)but if I blow this engine I may go that route. That being said, I LOVE the cotent!!!!!
Love this series! Can you do a more in depth video on what it took to get the engine to start? Seems theres not a lot of footage of the wiring and prepping for a first fire on youtube. Cheers!
This was the perfect video at the perfect time. Going to look at picking up a 2001 SC GT this weekend. I know it’s going to be on borrowed time with me driving it, but now I have a good path to reference when it happens.
Man do a cost breakdown for a fox I know it varies but to give people a good ballpark figure would be nice. Everyone has the assumption it’ll cost 20k or so but it really doesn’t.
Nice part is while new edge cars aren't featherweights, they're a good bit lighter than even the lightest mustang the coyote came in. Should turn it into a very fun daily!
I like the 00-04 model so much more than the 05-09 model but the only thing that turns me off is the engine bay is messier and the interior is better in the 05-09
The only thing that keeps me away from this swap is that the 2v sounds sooooo much better than a coyote. I may just get another new edge and swap that one and continue to daily my current one.
On the black new edge I’m curious to know what transmission y’all put in that car. You mentioned what could work just curious what one you put in that car.
So, question: I have a 97 GT, so no problems there, but it's a convertible. Would those additional cross supports in the engine bay make this swap a no go?
I'd love to join... but I'm broke and homeless rn living in my 56 mercury monterey. The 302 mustang motor that's in it is from 68 and its showing it now.... bad.. but anyways, love that motor, looks amazing
With an auto you would also need a trans to...like a 6r80 for example. You cant simply bolt it up to the original trans like you can with the manual that is what he meant. I believe they make the control pack and stuff for autos now I'm not sure.
So why is a 1994 or 1995 GT not included in possible year to convert to the newer Coyote 5.0L? The stock 5.0L is gutless in those years and a swap seems the cheaper solution for substantial increase in HP.
Sick bro I’m going to sell my ls400 to buy a v6 new edge and 5.0 swap it going to look at the car tomorrow I don’t know if by any chance I could email you for a picture of full parts list and everything you needed if you need to I’ll pay you for your time thanks in advance
Stock trans. He explains it all in the video. 96-04, GT manual with a 4.6 in it. Yoy do need a 10 bolt fly wheel, as the GT comes with an 8 bolt. This is bare bones cost, so if you can't even follow this video, odds are you're looking at 12k for parts and labor.
@@HeIsDreaMe The gentleman above me misspoke, you are able to bolt up the flywheel/clutch/trans from the 5 speed GTs (8 bolt flywheel) to the 5.0 (8 bolt crank). You do not need a new flywheel if you are on a budget.
