I first thought that fruit and vegetables in Colombia were all organic as well, but, in fact, Colombia and other Latin American countries use a lot - maybe more than in the US. They're generally not organic at all. I am vegan and asked a lot of people, including farmers, about this and this is what I was told. Of course, some farms and stores have organic food only, but in generally pesticide use is widespread and the fruit and vegetables in the stores are not organic. Please ask around. I was really disappointed when I found that they used pesticides. Otherwise, great video ! Love what you're doing
Agree 100% from personal experience for the short stay in Colombia buying local Products is much more affordable than US where as imported products are more expensive than US in short living a Colombian lifestyle is affordable where as an American lifestyle comes at a premium
I have to get here next year even if it kills me. Especially after this upcoming winter. Seems like such a nice quality of life and it's relatively cheap. Medellin quality of living cannot be beat for the price you pay. I feel you about winter, I'm from Iowa and winters can be brutal there. Yes the tax applies to all imports. You'll find all electronics here extremely expensive.

I am sure groceries in Colombia are sold by the Kilogram not lbs, and there are 2.2lbs to a kilogram. If so all the prices you quoted are totally wrong

Looked over the web on this subject searching on "Colombia grass fed beef" No certification and inspection like in the states, but seems to be standard practice countrywide. Cale were are you from? I know in America (I'm in Los Angeles) food prices vary widely from state to state. And surprisingly food in California is actually cheaper than in the rest of the States.
@@CaleMcMartin Rents are an outrage, and they smother us in taxes too. But the quality and price of food are better here. Also the cost of utilities here are much cheaper than in Texas , Colorado and Indiana. That info is from old friends that moved there.
Btw can you do a story on the cost of utilities in Medellin... A story where you show the actuals of the bills. I've been planing to Expat to medellin for a couple of years now. And need all the info I can get.

That place was about $1,000 but came fully furnished which is why it was somewhat expensive. Spanish classes (one on one) are about $12/hour. You can find group classes for much cheaper.

Hmm that's a tough question. I'd recommend just walking around the provenza area in Poblado and see what looks good to you as that is where all of the best restaurants are. Recently ate at Lobo and was really impressed with their bbq!
Cale, I found your channel yesterday and I think I've seen all of your videos. My situation is this: I can work from anywhere online, have no kids and just got out of a long term relationship. I'm in the United States but don't need to be here. For a while I'd been thinking about moving the SE Asia, but lately I'm leaning towards Latin America. Have you spent any time in Thailand? If so, how does it compare to Colombia? Is Colombia the only Latin American country you've spent a lot of time in? Can you get by with almost zero Spanish? I mean, I know some basics, but I couldn't hold my own in a conversation. I'm super interested in your responses and honestly I'm wondering if you have an email I can reach you at.
SE Asia and Thailand are nice it's just super far and time is 12 hours different. Asian and Latin culture are totally different. If you can I would recommend spending some time in both places and see what you like best before settling down. I've been to Costa Rica but thats it in latin america. But almost everyone that I talk to thats travelled extensively in this region say that Colombia wins hands down. I knew zero spanish when I moved here and it's honestly still a struggle for me haha.
