It sounds like it could be a good idea, but at the same time, requiring party officials to approve every candidate running for office quickly presents a glaring opportunity for corruption. The ruling party can easily shut down opposition by just disqualifying candidates that don't serve their interest. I'm certain that the CCP has a list of subtle and not-so-subtle ways of making sure that the right people fail those background checks. It's kinda like how in the US, additional voting security measures _seem_ like a good idea (who doesn't want more security?) but are usually just a sneaky way to disqualify minority voters. Coming back to the West (specifically the US because that's what I'm familiar with), we can look at our politicians and see that _most_ politicians are relatively well qualified (with a couple glaring exceptions). That doesn't necessarily mean they're _good_ politicians, but they are _qualified_ - even our slimiest and most moronic politicians hold college degrees. We could try to set out some guidelines to automatically disqualify bad candidates, but it's hard to do that objectively without feeling like you're just drawing arbitrary lines in the sand. And if we aren't careful, it can be easily abused (like China's system, which is probably designed to be abused). But finally, there is actually a hidden requirement in our election system - you have to run a campaign well enough to actually get elected. This isn't a perfect test, especially when political parties can carry an attractive candidate so far, but it does provide some sort of barrier to entry that forces a candidate to displau public speaking and leadership skill. So yeah, the US system definitely isn't perfect, and we've had some idiots get elected or get close (my state tried to put a football player in office). But on the whole, I'd rather have the people decide who's qualified, rather than the state.

That's just your usual looking at China through a western perspective the CPC is so large and so woven into the Chinese society, political and economic fabric, there is no distinction between the Party and the State. The State is the Party and the Party is the State

@@obsidianstatue The party is the state and the state is the party is a de facto statement. De jure, there is still a difference. That's why it's an interesting point that the PLA is controlled by the CCP, just as how it's an interesting that there are technically 8 parties in China.

This is a common misconception in the west, but you have to stop looking at other countries using assumptions from your governments. The CPC is legally an integral part of the National government. The CPC and the other branches of government (executive, legislative etc.) are part of a whole. It is not organized in a typical European fashion where the parties and the national government are separate and almost mutually independent. Thus it is not legally possible to sever the CPC from the rest of China's government, similar to how you can't sever the church from religious countries. The PLA command is a department under the CPC which in turn is part of the national government.

The structure of a state is basically identical to Socialist Czechoslovakia (the country what I know most of) or any Other comunist state. All of the other states with big populations and multiple ethicities solved there problem by spreding power, (India, Russia, US, Brazil). Also China isn't that ethnically diversed in term of population. Without the communist China would already be the most powerfull country on the planet. Try to comper it to South Korea, Japan or Taiwan that is also inhabited by chinese.

Except that isn't how a federal state is defined, because it was laws created in Westminster that granted the autonomy and not as part of the national constitution that gave/protect the subdivisions inherent autonomy. So, still unitary.

It is indeed extraordinarily complicated. Frankly it's a miracle it all works at all. Though the Chinese have had an impressive bureaucracy for thousands of years now.

Don't think China's governmental structure as western-like gov't structure, whether it's democratic or communist. Think of it as 60-70% of the system has similarities of ancient Chinese bureaucracy, and the rest are bits of pieces of democratic, socialist, and communist features. Even in ancient times, the dynasties always had many factions within the court to fight for power or against any betrayals. At least that's what some Chinese people told me. LOL.

from the looks of it. technically the party is the government. so there is no party, it is the government. the word party is just a label. so its technically a no party government. every politician is on his own.

It’s more of the meritocratic nature of the Chinese Government, due to a history of being the very first state and emphasis on governing well.

The Standing Committee of NPC is the de facto legislative body of China, and of course almost coincides with a party equivalent. They do to many extend discuss, debate and care about each other’s opinions within that heavily gatekept power circle of theirs based on rough majoritarian principles.

The reason why people think the Standing Comittee is just rubber stamping is because the SC does not vote like a parliament does. Rather it works through very thorough discussion and scrutiny of policy and politicians and at the end of a session members of the SC usually agree on a strong majority consensus. However, this process is very untransparent as far as I know because most of this happens behind closed doors I think. So you never really know who critiqued what and who voted on what. However, this systems obviously has done wonders for China.

communist party selection is open to anyone basically. my wife got an invitation just for her skills (but rejected because of me) eligibility criteria for a gov worker is university diploma and a government exam (which minorities get a bit of a privilege for but that's fine) eligibility for a political representative though is pure skill in the field the higher the position. for the entry level, it's mainly a clean police record, cities require more than villages.

@@user78994 well China censors a lot of websites in the mainland, people usually just use vpns based on nearby countries. It’s usually not very expensive. ( however here in Hk it’s not banned to visit any of these except TikTok, otherwise my mom would probably force me to use braids instead of Google) however since their are already a lot of Chinese replacements of Facebook and baidu ( and they have douyin ) there’s not really a very good reason for Chinese citizens to visit censored websites as there are already a lot of people using the unbanned websites, in their own language. So unless they have to find something out watch something that is not available in China (eg Tiananmen Square massacre, Winnie the Pooh or peppa pig) you usually won’t find them in a lot of places.

Social credit score is the GOVERNMENT scoring your social rating which includes how much you support the GOVERNMENT. It is used not only on loans but even your ability to pay cash for services. @@amberyao6493 Not in my schools... I live in Calgary, Canada so we mostly learn about Canadian things. My parents and I moved from China to Russia back to China then to Canada in 2003. Also, they tend to completely use Chinese to explain CCP stuff, although we are fluent in English. I can listen and speak some Chinese, but not if the sentences or words are complicated. My parents usually speak in long, complex Chinese sentences that I don't know the meanings of when talking about this.
