We actually named some foods with chinese places even though it's a new food or modified food because the inventor of those foods are filipino chinese....for example Shanghai roll was named after Shanghai but Chinese people are not familiar with these food, because it was invented in Philippines by a chinese immigrant....also the philippine siopao is slightly different from chinese sio bao, it's because siopao was invented in Philippines by a chinese immigrant, siopao dough is so soft and so pluffy perfected by the inventor...Mami was also inspired by chinese soup noodles but the inventor of the dish was a chinese immigrant in Philippines....although these foods were invented and modified by chinese Filipino immigrants these are totally in a new category of foods inspired by chinese foods...Chinese food enthusiasts actually surveyed these filipino foods and shocked to know that these are the same in concept but totally different in nature....

I'm Filipino with a Chinese descent, but government is so biased that they always highlight our culture influenced by Spain. They also should mention the older traditions, cultures, and government of muslim history that have similarities with neighbor Malaysia and Indonesia. When you mentioned "encouraged by Spaniard"... that's not really accurate as "most of them" we're forced to convert to Christianity, and if not then they'll either be rape, death by hang, boiled to water, get a hole in skull by gunpowder etc.. They also use the method of getting the kids of the Village leader and other normal kids and raised as Christian so once their parents died, those kids will continue to live in a Christian way.. I love my country but Government don't give justice on our story. The foods of Spanish that mixed with us was also influenced by Ottoman Empire so our foods is so unique that it's mixed with Spain and Middle.. Don't forget also that it's not only adobo or sinigang, those muslims that was not converted by Christians also have different foods and there's a lot of different foods on every tribes.. I think you should know it since you love Philippine Culture too..

That is a COMMON problem in the Philippines, Filipinos don't APPRECIATE our history, look how the country is, so MESSY, a lot of BROKEN systems, like a simple National ID, until NOW majority of Filipinos do NOT receive yet their PhilSys ID, in Abu Dhabi, where I presently live, it will take us only 1 month to get our Emirates ID, so do NOT be surprised, that is the country is SLOWLY going down to the SH*T hole, while our neighbors in the ASEAN are getting BETTER...

A lot of the Chinese-Spanish hybrids and decent over time forgot their Chinese roots and would present themselves as Spanish decent only due to the prestige it gave; most of the Spanish girls from not so well to do Spanish families in colonial Philippines were encouraged by their parents to marry Chinese men who had more money to ensure a sustainable/affluent future for their daughters, the Chinese men liked the idea so they can gain perks, additional rights, racial prestige and a pretty wife.

That's right, the Philippines - China relation were already established way before the Europeans discovered East Asia. The now Philippines archipelago were composed of independent smaller kingdoms, Sulu was the biggest, more established and more powerful. The sultan to Sulu had good foreign relation with the emperor of China, if I am not mistaken, one of the Sultan died in China during his foreign visit upon the inviation of the Emperor, and buried there. When China became a communist country and the Philippines was still under the influence of the US, as former American colony, that's when the relation soured. Nowaday, the relation between China and the Philippines, is mostly political and economic, unlike in the past that were many cultural exchanges. In recent years the relation deteriorated due to the territorial dispute in the Spartlys and West Philippine sea. The Philippines is in odd situation between the 2 major rivals. Only time will tell what tomorrow brings.

US and China back then where not rivals. USA even sanctioned Japan prior to WW2. During WW2 the Americans and Chinese are on the same side. The rift between China and USA began after the Chinese civil war. Communist won and the ROC retreated to Taiwan. ROC (Republic of China) was the former ruler of China, they are US allies during WW2 and they are more pro-capitalist much like the US. That's why you see Taiwan having close ties with the US. While the CCP(Chinese Communist Party) are more pro Soviet. Russians where actually the former enemy of the Chinese people. The Russian empire had stole much of their land in the north. Even Vladivostok today where former territory of Qing dynasty.

I appreciate that you mentioned that just because something appears in both Chinese culture and the Philippines, it doesn't necessarily mean something is influenced by China or something is from China. Most foreigners and some Filipino (to make it easier for foreigners to understand) would describe something with another country's name. This is just an example but I have heard batchoy described as Filipino pho. Or BGC looking like Singapore (defnitely not because Singapore has a different look and feel). Or if a thing that looks or tastes like another country's thing then it will be described as though the Philippines copied it without any consideration that because of trade years ago, these foreign traders could have easily brought things that they enjoyed in the Philippines to their own countries. Most people do not think about such things just because they have been to that other country first and then see something similar in the Philippines.

@deev2569
@deev2569 Год назад
@@oliverenterprises3526 the South Asians may have something to say about that. Some say they were the first to start cultivating rice. See even mass cultivation of rice can not be claimed by one culture. We do not know what happened back then and the movement and results of trade and travel. Some things can be definitely be said as originating from a particular country. Example, Korean handwriting. It is a created language by Koreans. No one else can claim it. Some things appear in many cultures that it is hard to pinpoint where it actually from or if it has an origin. We humans are quite adept at using and creating things from our surroundings. They could easily come up with something similar. Example, something as intricate as the periodic had two people working on it about the same. Mendeleev created the one that is widely accepted. Or history could have gotten it wrong or for nefarious reasons like the monopoly game which was attributed to the wrong person because his was the better origin story and Parker Brothers went with it knowing he was not the inventor. One origin story that I like is Tamarind's. Widely popular in Latin American Countries, the Caribbean, South Asia and Southeast Asia, I read that it is actually native to East Africa. So I asked an Ethiopian lady about tamarind products especially candy in her country and showed her a picture. Her answer: I know that fruit but we do not pay much attention to it. 😆😁. All I am saying is that we should be mindful in claiming something or attributing something to one country. History is in the hands of the current interpreters. I do not know how often we get it right especially when we are talking about ancient history.

These overseas territories of the Spanish Empire were under the jurisdiction of Crown of Castile until the last territory was lost in 1898. Spaniards saw the dense populations of indigenous peoples as an important economic resource and the territory claimed as potentially producing great wealth for individual Spaniards and the crown. Religion played an important role in the Spanish conquest and incorporation of indigenous peoples, bringing them into the Christian faith peacefully or by force. The crown created civil and religious structures to administer the vast territory. Spanish colonists settled in greatest numbers where there were dense indigenous populations and the existence of valuable resources for extraction.[1]The Spanish Empire would expand across the Caribbean Islands, half of South America, most of Central America and much of North America. It is estimated that during the colonial period (1492-1832), a total of 1.86 million Spaniards settled in the Americas, and a further 3.5 million immigrated during the post-colonial era (1850-1950); the estimate is 250,000 in the 16th century and most during the 18th century, as immigration was encouraged by the new Bourbon dynasty.[2] anyway, happy chinese new year!

Chinese and Filipinos have bump head long before that historical date mentioned in the vlog this is before Chinese where called Chinese and Filipinos where called Filipinos, it happen when the Chinese have learn to navigate the sea and bump into southeast Asian people, this is long before the allowed passage, stablish route and trade link with the imperial China then, the recorded dates will be the aftermath (trade accounting, administration etc.) and this are not exclusive to China other nations would have done it as well and not exclusive to Binondo as well other parts of the Philippines would traded as well, southeast Asian is just the earliest maritime sea farer in the region so the 1st. contact would have been a lot earlier, possibly a thousand years more earlier. Imperial China is located up in the north (Dry Land) the 1st. contact would have been a non imperial one but the trade records would have been imperial, there would have been a huge gap in between the two. Just Saying Folks.. Happy Chinese New Year to Everyone.. Cheers.!! ✨🎈👌👍😉😎✌.

The pre-colonial Filipinos were maritime traders that were active throughout the South China Sea that traded as far as Japan and to India hence the huge cultural exchanges such as the development of Raja in the Philippines archipelagos. Furthermore the pre-colonial Philippines were rich in resources such as gold, jade and other precious metals and stones among other things which became the one of many reasons foreign kingdoms would visit and settle in the archipelago among them from Middle East which brought Islam. Most of the pre-colonial Philippines' history were destroyed and it's resources plundered by the Spaniards and other foreign invaders but one thing is for certain that the people endured and Filipinos must take pride in that because when people endure hardships in life, they become stronger and a strong and united Philippines is unstoppable. “Give me ten thousand Filipinos and I shall conquer the world!” -General MacArthur

Gong xi fa cai! Thanks for highlighting our culture as a Chinese Filipino, Philippines and Korea are similar in that both places are heavily influenced by the Chinese Empire, Korea being a part of the Sinosphere while the Philippines being home to the world's oldest Chinatown and the location of Chinese Kingdoms called Huangdoms before the Spanish colonial period.

Koreans are Xing Chinese that's why you celebrate Chinese New Year too on Jan 22nd. Philippines centuries ago a ethnicity of Chinese helped kicked out the Spanish that no longer exists. There are many different ethnicities of Chinese! The ones that came to the Philippines don't exist anymore (Not all are communist). Indo-Chinese traveled all the way down to Indonesia. Malay just means South East Asian from Indo-malayan/Oriental Realm.

Jessica I am amazed with your knowledge and interest in Filipino culture, We are learning as you go on the past History of the relationship between the China and the Philippines. We consider the Chinese as our Asian Brothers as well sisters compared to the Spanish Conqueror. Oriental Prosperity is the only way we can preserve our Culture and race. We are proud of you Jessica you should pursue teaching or as a Professor in Oriental history. Philippines loves Korean, Japanese and Chinese to our Country because you bring pride and superiority to the Asians...God Bless Jessica..

The kingdom of Spain had the monolopy of trading with the America "continent," not the country. The US didn't even exist at that time.

Jessica cracking her voice while telling the similarities between the Philippines and Korea when it comes to being contested grounds for imperialist countries, and how our history reminds her of hers show how much she values learning the history of our country. Ito yung content na hindi mo madadaya for the sake of clout, simply because the topics can be personal for the vlogger herself. You can see how sincere she is with the way she's welling up on her emotions during that part.

Wow Chinese had contact with Filipinos long before the Spanish.. I am wondering what did the Chinese call the Filipinos back in the 9th century? Like before they got their country name as Phillipines, what did China or neighbouring countries call them back then?

呂宋 (Lū-sòng) in Hokkien Chinese, the nearest Chinese people north of the Philippines that were often sea merchants. The term means "Luzon" because Luzon is the first major island they encountered and Luzon used to refer to the Pasig River Delta in between Intramuros and Tondo. Intramuros used to be the original Manila. The area in between Tondo and Manila used to be called Lusong, named after Tagalog word "lusong" meaning either "descent to a lower place; stepping into water" or "rice mortar", both of them written "lusong", but velarde map during 1700s says it's the rice mortar but the former definition makes more sense.

My mom's Chinese uncle (Lee clan) business in binondo was a laundry shop. This business was introduced by many chinese immigrants in Philippines. I grew up having both pinoy and chinese culture since my Dad's side are kapampangans who were also inhabited by many Chinese and Mexican immigrants (Mexico Pampanga) for many centuries. Philippines is truly a melting pot in Asia.

In Bohol and Cebu a lot of the ancestral houses or heritage houses have curved roofs, like those of Ryukyu, it is heavily influenced by the Chinese and is unique amongst the Bisaya people. in Bisaya we call them "Tal" families, Tal in the literal sense means "full fledged", but when pertaining to families, it means very very old prominent families. The Bisaya started sending trade missions to China in the 11th century, during the Song Dynasty. Sadly a lot of these houses especially in Bohol were burnt down by the Americans during their 50 year invasion, only a few remain in Bohol and in Cebu.

The Tagalongs slaughtered a lot of the non Catholic Chinese and a lot of them fled to the Bisaya areas where they are not discriminated, we Bisaya have no history of commiting mass slaughter on the Chinese in our land, we are more accepting of the Chinese since our people's have been friends for centuries, in Cebu alone there are 3 taoist temples.

Hi, Jessica! thanks for making this video in time for the Chinese New Year! 🧧🎊🐰🥟 anyway, it would also be nice if you could make a video on the Spanish-side of the history. Also maybe try watching Heneral Luna and Goyo, if you haven't done so yet! :) I really enjoyed how you explained things! have a great day!

This is very informative. While most of our culture are now influenced by Spain, Filipinos do not embrace the fact that we are still ethnically way more closer to China than Spain (cause a lot of Filipinos thought we have a certain amount of Spanish blood, or just because mostly have the Spanish surname). Study already shows it through DNA Ancestry.

We adopt many Chinese, Spanish, Japanese and American influence their influences are still alive up until today but To GENERALIZED We are Culturally, linguistically and genetically Austronesian Filipino is not a race but it's our NATIONALITY The ancestors of modern day Filipinos are the Austronesian people that originated Southern China migrated to Taiwan then enter the Philippines bringing their cultures, Traditions, influences and language in our Country. The Austronesian people populated the Philippines they are the reason why we Filipinos exist today even our fellow Filipinos Negritos siblings are already been mixed with Austronesian Filipinos.
