In Malaysia, Malaysian speak to each other in Manglish mostly among the Chinese in Malaysia( as I am a Malaysian Chinese) where is call it Manglish. Due to the mixture of different Chinese dialects in our country(Malaysia) most Chinese Malaysians would insert common dialects such as Cantonese and Hokkien words in it as those words sounds much funny and warm among each other when they speak English which then we call it Manglish (Malaysian English) Just like how Singlish (Singaporean English). Our non-emphasizing English pronunciation is very common due to the confusion of various Chinese, Malay, Tamil language we are influenced when we live in Malaysia due to the different Malaysian Race. Which can differ from the Singlish Language but sound the same as well as Singaporean English has less mixture of Malay words in it as majority of Singaporeans are of the Chinese race. Most of us in Malaysia( especially the Chinese and Indians) can speak about 3 languages (Malay, Manglish aka English, Their Mother tongue(Chinese/Tamil/Punjabi) and that's not including the Chinese/Indian dialects we know. Well, you will be surprise or confuse when you come to Malaysia and try to understand our Manglish in Malaysia! :D So don't get confuse betweeen Singlish and Manglish or even Chinese China Language as we speak in a different way totally from the China people in China. We are proud of our Manglish , the way we glide through the sentence inserting other languages and still understand each other was sure something i never realized untill I left Malaysia and was told about how cool my Manglish sound like ! Thumbs up to my Norwegians and Aussie friends whom informed me about our unique Malaysian Language ! Let's share to the world and let them know such English exists out there apart from (indian accent English) Probably Simpsons should come up with a new cartoon character speaking Malaysian Manglish Accent ~?

I did this short clip by my own to show how we speak to each other mostly among the Chinese. Due to the mixture of different dialects in our country most chinese would insert common dialects such as cantonese and hokkien words in it as those words sounds much funnier and warm among each other. Our non-emphasizing pronunciation is very common due to the confusion of various language we learn. Most of us can speak about 3 languages and that's not including the dialects we know. Chillout!

Dis one legit video lah I grew up and was born in Malaysia and learned english there. I love the sound of "manglish" very much, makes me feel home. I think of it as something like the jamaican Patois. In fact: Somebody out there should play reggae or dancehall with this "Manglish". Maybe someday I will. But I don't really speak "manglish"...

It depends. Malaysians can generally understand English. I think you'll be fine in a Malaysian airport. What you mentioned here is true. You can't generalize about a whole country. In places where there's more likely to be foreigners (like KL), then chances are you'll be fine with English.

Singaporeans don't speak with a "wei" at the end of each sentence. That's the main difference between "Manglish" (as Malaysians call it) and Singlish. Singaporeans use "leh" in place of "wei".

Edres Mn Most Chinese here speak Mandarin and can speak well. But conversation-wise, there are words which may not exist in the proper Chinese vocabulary, it's more of a Malaysian Chinese thing. But whoever said that we do not speak Mandarin is totally wrong.
@Feliciazoe
@Feliciazoe 8 лет назад
+Edres Mn Hi Edres, Well, there are some whom can't speak Mandarin at all, whereas some speaks the dialect such as Hokkien ( North), KL city( Cantonese). However, those whom had been to Chinese school would speak proper Mandarin.(Simple form which is similar to China) Whereas the Taiwanese writes in Traditional mandarin and our Malaysian Chinese accent is more similar to the Taiwanese style as we don't emphasize much on the "CH" in our tones.

manglish = speak english mix malay .. for example : go+lah.. go = english and then lah = malay so... go+lah = go lah... and some people say you destroy the english when you speak manglish right.. ok.. and when American say ' ok bro?' i think that means 'alright brother?' right?.. why this word not destroy the english? tell me why.. and if i use 'ok bro?' or 'whats up' in english exam.. why that word make me fail in my exam if that word not to destroy the english.. and if i use manglish in exam.. sure..comfirm!!! 100% fail too.. because manglish its not 100% english.. manglish its malay mix with english word.. not english prim.. same like 'what up bro?' not a prim.. and if you studying malay.. and then use manglish in exam..of course 100% fail.. i don't konw what i say this.. yohohohoho

Jaclyn Quek Jia Yee I couldn't remember why I posted the comment. Thinking back, I feel it's rather immature of me to not have realised that people have the right to be themselves. Anyway, I suppose I was shocked when I watched the video because I didn't know many Chinese back then. I was still in secondary school and the majority of the students in my secondary school were Malays and Indians, with only about 5% of Chinese students. I had not listened to Malaysian English radio stations for 6 years so that video gave me a shock. Either way, I believe that what portrayed in the video are just some stereotypes. Most of my friends in uni are Chinese and they do not speak like that.

Rothschild family I hope you read what i have written here throughly till the end. I know that saying Malaysia is Tanah Melayu doesn't sound nice to you guys(chinese and indians).But we need to always refer to history when it comes to this thing. Firstly,that is the official name before our country was named as Persekutuan Tanah Melayu and then Malaysia.Malaysia's name was originated from word Malaya(which is actually Pesekutuan Tanah Melayu) and that us why our country was known by the world as Tanah Melayu.I defenitely don't agree with what you said above.This is because before British colony,there is no Malaysia and Indonesia yet.There was only Alam Melayu/Nusantara which nowadays includes countries of (Malaysia,Indonesia,Brunei,Singapore and Phlippine)-for exmaple during Srivijaya Empire.Therefore,we malays are called indigenous/native people.the migration of malay people from one place to another had happened long time ago before colonialism of British towards Tanah Melayu and Belanda towards Indonesia.The colonialism of British and Belanda had divided the Alam Melayu(Nusantara) causing formation of many countries.That shows that either Malay or other native people originated from Nusantara regions were just moving or migrating around our place or around Malay Archipelago(Kepulauan Melayu).So,that makes the Malay people have lived and existed in Tanah Melayu as indigenous people(Bumiputera) from the very beginning.To strengthen my speech,i would like to give one example.Back in the days during the Empire of China,if people from Beijing migrate to Mongolia..does it means that they move from one country to another? No right ! They were just moving around their empire right?Therefore same goes for us who live in Alam Melayu as it was just same like Empire of China.This history also brought to special position of Bumiutera(Malay and native people of Sabah and Sarawak) and why we are not counted as pendatang.You guys(chinese and indians) both have your own ancestors coming from their countries(China and India).If you want to reply to my speech,please reply nicely.I hope you guys can accept this fact with opened heart as all these are the result of the histories.We share this country together but you guys should not have gone mad if people say malaysia is Tanah Melayu if you guys really learn the history of our country and understand it well.Thank you!
