How Chris Motionless Learned to Scream 

I just realized this is probably this first time I’ve seen Chris’ natural eyebrows in forever

Little does Chris know, we listen to him and try to imitate the screams but sound terrible 🤣

So glad he brought up Ben Burnley. Breaking Benjamin is the main gateway band that got me into metalcore and deathcore. Absolutely love them.

Chris is such a sweetheart. I am so happy to see MIW growing. Super proud of him, one of the BEST metal singers of our times 🖤

It's funny, I've used MIW, Killswitch Engage and Slipknot songs to try to learn screaming. I'm not the best but I've made significant progress over the whole pandemic from listen and screaming to their songs. So cool to hear Chris use James and Corey and others for the same reason

I loved his vocals in 'Sinematic'. One of their best songs if not the best.

I love that I found my own voice. I can go from growl scream into a singing voice and back again in one note/sentence now.

My first time hearing Chris' natural speaking voice, it's a trip. Not at all what i thought he would sound like but super cool still!

I've like MIW for a while for a while now, but listening to how well chris articulates himself makes me like them even more.

Born in '69, to me Korn was a new band after an awesome thrash decade in the 80s. To this dude, Korn was an old band. I still see Korn as new metal. We learned screaming from Corpsegrinder and Rob from Sacrifice.

This dude is amazing.

It's very comforting knowing that I'm not alone in not knowing wtf I'm doing screaming there's obviously a thousand videos showing you what to do and how to scream but at the end of the day, it's different for everyone and it's kinda like learning a new instrument in itself and you just kinda have to find you're own path. That being said those videos do help but they're not a complete guide and what I find helps me the most is singing an easier song to sing maybe with a bit of that raspy rocky vocals, then switching to maybe a song that's a bit more dramatic and starts with singing and ends with screaming, and then just singing/screaming along to whatever, and lastly I go with a song that's got some grit but has a big chorus a good one might be "Sign of Life" (Motionless) but my go to is something off of "Saturate" (Breaking Benjamin). But I always make sure that there's some singing in there and not a song with all screams because then it's hard to transition to singing also it just builds technique. A vocal session for me might go like so 1. Snuff - Slipknot 2. All Apologies - Nirvana 3. I Feel Nothing - The Plot in You 4. The Kill - 30 Seconds to Mars 5. Reincarnate - Motionless in White 6. Birth of the Cruel - Slipknot 7. Shallow Bay - Breaking Benjamin

Your vocals are awesome Chris. Cant imagine anyone else singing your songs. You have a uniqueness that cant be mimicked in my opinion

My first screaming band was Sick of it All. It’s insane that these singers can do this. I would blow out my voice every time. Sounds like a genuine nice guy

I actually got introduced to Motionless in White accidentally. They were opening for Alice Cooper (who I am a lifelong fan of) and I had never even heard of the so I was actually surprised at how many people were there to see them and ha no interest in seeing Alice perform. But they opened and had amazing energy and I have been listening to them ever since.

Cradle of Filth have the rasp too especially with their song Nymphedamine. Good tune. Love the rasp screaming in songs. Oli from Bring Me The Horizon is awesome at the scream as well too.

Sometimes you hear Benjamin Burnley in his voice in parts of songs! It’s beautiful cuz i love his vocals too!

To be honest I started learning screaming because of him! I wanted to sing not only clean parts and here we are - I can scream many MIW songs and do covers 🤭 But when I started it was exactly the same as Chris's. It was a disgusting parody (I sounded like a creaking door🤣) and then almost 2 days I couldn't sing anything. I'm not using the same technique as Chris though sometimes I wish I could use, but I really relate things he said in this video. Thanks for the awesome video!

My absolute favourite band in the world. Listening to Disguise and Scoring the end of the world daily. Surprised to see TimeBomb not on the new album though. I love how over pronounced his lyric style is and makes it so accessible to fans regardless of what metal style you like.
