@Phantom Blade We just paid over 13 billion dollars for one Aircraft carrier...... Not to mention, that with America's GDP, we make $2,283,105,022(billion) per hour. Do you consider something you pay for that costs about an hour and 15 minutes of your pay to be expensive?

The problem with acoustics is the effect they have on cetaceans, especially the deep diving species such as the Curvier's beaked whale. They are mainly found in deep canyons where the sound bounces off the walls causing them to make a bolt for the surface which ends up killing them as they get DCS

The 625 billions of dollars pumped into the military is responsible for the creation of millions of jobs and the development of a great deal of new technology that has benefited humankind as a whole, not to mention global security and the assurance of the free use of the oceans for all nations across the entire globe, as well as the countless humanitarian missions conducted by the military. Now, I'm not knocking the pursuit of science, all I'm saying is you should understand what the military delivers in terms of ROI before you start knocking the expense.

@Sky Man Has the ocean floor been mapped? Yes. Accurately? ...No. The problem is the maps of the totality of the ocean floor hasn't been accurately mapped because thousands of feet of water is quite hard to see through it's why submarines are still a thing. If stealth weren't possible military subs today wouldn't be a thing (because of their cost and overall uselessness outside of being covert). The ocean floor is very hard to map. Having maps isn't the same as accurate mapping. The ocean floor a few feet from the coast in Florida that is visible to the naked eye isn't the same as trying to figure out what is underneath miles of water in some places in the same ocean a few hundered miles away from the same coast in the same ocean even if you're directly above the area you want to map. So again mapped? Sure. Mapped well? If those 500 year old maps of the world are accurate to you... Then yes, I guess.
@VariantAEC
@VariantAEC 5 лет назад
@Sky Man Actually they explained how global organizations will use accurate maps of the the ocean floor for their own benefit. Did you watch the video? Most of the stuff humans make isn't for general use and doesn't directly benefit you as an individual. If you're healthy you don't know what it's like to need the medical equipment your own species pioneered. Does that mean it doesn't help those that do? I guess according to you it does, right?

The leftovers then take only very little time and money (in comparison), while common shipping routes will be much more accurately mapped.

@SkittleGirlTokyo
@SkittleGirlTokyo 11 месяцев назад
Reversing? Bro, the Sahara desert sand provides the rainforest with nutrients to well, BE A RAINFOREST. Then, lots of detailed science info later, moisture from the rainforest, travels to mountains, it rains, water flows, eventually making it to icebergs which fall into the ocean (naturally or should be naturally and not cause of a warming ocean) and the nutrients from the icebergs feeds plankton and again, fast forward a bit, we end up with oxygen. Wanting to reverse deserts is the most absurd thing I have read all year. Everything on this planet contributes to its overall health and existence. To your existence.

America already digs water wells in Africa. We're also the largest supplier of food to 3rd world countries. But we're probably not going anywhere until the terrorists disband, or we kill enough of them that they aren't a real problem anymore. There's no such thing as complete world peace. But today, the average persons chances of dying by violent means has never been lower.

I think the heavy balls in fabric is an incredibly bad representation of gravity. Seeing as different density around the earth effects gravity, its not like a single point creating a well.

A model is a model. It's not going to be exact and that is okay. The vast majority of people will never have to deal with problems involving Earth's non-uniform gravity. It would be like teaching the orbital model of the atom before the ball-and-stick model.

I guess we better go and terraform mars and just don't worry about the ocean.

I think the depth and secrets of the ocean should stay secrets. Once people find out what's at the bottom of the ocean they're gonna want to hunt it to extinction and exploit it for money.

The ocean doesn't need mapping for exploitation, it doesn't need 'management' either. It's dying and needs to be left alone.

When the unique life around geothermal vents were discovered some people saw nickel nodules, and wanted to drag mine it. The vents, and unique life would be destroyed. They received venture capital, and were about to do it. I don't know if it was stopped. Much would be lost forever so a few who didn't care could get rich. There's your answer. What many want can be destroyed by a few when it comes to money.

After you guys finish, when are you planning to do it again? If you only map it one time, then you cannot compare and understand the changes and movements. How long its gonna take for the second time?
