I guess I've been doing aegyo all my life. I don't think its a korea thing, its just more prevelant there. Ever since I was a little kid, I've been asking my parents cutely for stuff. Egyo only works if that guy see that female as a woman r if he likes her in some way if Oppa does not like her it won't work, because he knows that she's just acting cute and feminine to get what she wants. Hmm.. I think all girls do this... just in slightly different ways depending on the country they're from. When I do this with my parents or boyfriend it's more like... idk, tongue-in-cheek? There is no shame in harnessing and embracing the power of our sexuality but there is a difference between being a child and being a woman. Embracing our sexuality can be equally displayed by men and women, whereas we've seen that people think that a man who acts with aegyo is "creepy". If you want to be taken seriously, be a woman. If you want things, work for it, don't manipulate. Being aegyo or coquettish is the easy way out and we'll never be seen as equals to men in the world if we continue with behaviour like this.

I'm Colombian and I had no idea what aegyo was until like last week. But somehow i'd been doing it my whole life, i tend to switch between cute, edgy and normal. I use it to get on people's good side, but i didn't know it was an actual thing.

In America, if a girl does aegyo, she is considered whinny, selfish and needy = guys don't want to be around her. When I watched my first Korean drama and saw aegyo, I thought it was massive "over-acting" -- then later figured out it is not only normal, but effective and expected in Korean culture.
