To me and I'm sure others agree with me and if they don't that's fine to each their own. The biggest problem I had with the X Men movies is how Cyclops got replaced by Wolverine as the leader of the team. And then the one movie they made him a leader was just a giant pile of crap lol
because hugh jackman was such cool actor that he made wolverine such a badass and the producer thought and made the right decision to make him the main character in xmen. it kinda disappointed a lot xmen fans but cyclops though he was cool in comics and cartoons wasnt really appealing in big screen and the fact that they cant find an actor that would have the same impact jackman did with wolverine.
Wolverine never replace anyone as a leader. Wolverine is just badass and it's not his fault he outshines everyone dispite having one of the weakest power.
1) Cyclops created the X Force out of desperation for mutant kind survival against those that want to harm them. 2) Emma Frost take advantage of his mental state during therapy to literally mind rape him, but somehow it Scott's fault 3) He didn't bought back the Phoenix, Iron Man blew it up into 5 separate pieces and it possessed Cyclops Actually read the fucking comic before making a video.
Triple DDD's Lightskin Salvy Scott was taken host by apocolypse and it gave him major ptsd. Jean was such a bitch she wanted to cheat on him because he was going through mental problems.
So... let's recap: 1: Cyclops was yanked back and forth by the psychic leashes of not one, but two (if not three) psychic women (one of whom abused her position as his therapist to do something that any sane person would proclaim rape, with an emphasis on "this isn't the fault of the patient, this is the fault of the telepath in a position of authority.") 2: Cyclops focused on trying to make a world where mutants, including HIS OWN CHILDREN, would be safe from persecution. Y'know, like how a soldier overseas puts their work over family. 3: Cyclops decided that Wolverine was right about the need for lethal measures and put together a team that included Wolverine's female clone-raised-as-an-assassin. Wolverine's response, "BLATANT HYPOCRISY BUT WHO CARES BECAUSE I AM COOL!" Punch. Light a cigar. "Because everything I say sounds cool and people will agree with me no matter how messed up my reasoning is, bub." 4: Cyclops gets possessed by the incredibly powerful cosmic entity that makes its hosts do what it wants. And of course Wolverine reminded everyone, "Cyclops is 100% responsible here, if it were Jean it'd be different, no let's all blame Cyclops for everything! Oh, and don't mind these skeletons in my closet from all the times I've been brainwashed or mind controlled or just... y'know, in a bad mood..." 5: Cyclops gets broken out of prison by a guy and goes on to say, "you people keep wanting to exterminate us for EXISTING. You're going to demonize me for not letting you murder people? Seriously?" 6: A bunch of aristocratic slave owners attempt to force their transformative mists onto the world to give people powers (many of which come with drawbacks and unnecessary complications) without their consent or will. A PSYCHIC REPLICA of Cyclops attempts to stop them from doing so, on the grounds that this will cause genocide of mutants. The aristocrats scream in indignation because the lives of others mean nothing to them. Also, I'd like to point out that the majority of these have been written since Marvel demanded that Fox return the movie rights for X-Men and Fantastic Four, Fox refused, and Marvel said, "in that case we're going to depower most of the mutants, screw up canon... we'll retcon Xavier into having been a duplicitous jerk all along! And we're cancelling the Fantastic Four comic entirely! We'd rather ruin what used to be our biggest titles just to spite you!" ...And even then, Cyclops still comes across as a pretty good guy, overall.
To add to 4: The Phoenix was coming back, he didn't bring it back and he didn't even want it. He wanted Hope to get the power. And she would have too, if Tony Stark didn't build a weapon that did not destroy it but instead broke it into 5 different entities which possessed Cyclops as on of them. The whole AvX arc could have been avoided if the Avengers didn't act out of character and start a fight with the X-Men instead of coming to them as friends.
This video is so wrong, so many things have been taken out of context. Many people only dislike cyclops because of his rivalry with the 'perfect' and 'amazing' Wolverine (though even after Cyclops disbands X-Force Wolverine sets it up again behind Cyclops' back). Sure cyclops has issues with his love life, like his relationship with Madelyne Pryor. But so many situations have been taken out of context here. Many of the issues of Scott moving on quickly is simply the fact that the writers wanted to keep the storyline moving on. His relationship with Emma Frost is wrong but a few points, this was after he had been merged with apocalypse and his whole personality was changed, second is that Jean was also too blame, phoenix had come back to her and she became distant and was shunning Scott and thought of him as weak. She distanced herself from him and even tried to get with Wolverine showing that the relationship had cracks and Scott wasn't the only to blame. Third is that Emma Frost had manipulated scott into it. Another example of things being taken out of context is him and Storm, this never actually happened in the comics it occured in an alternate timeline and in that timeline it was storm that kissed scott, and Scott with the Alien, that was actually young scott summers who had been brought to the future (by Beast). X-Force... it was wrong, but everyone had flaws, scott believed he was doing the right thing (which Wolverine clearly also agreed as he recreated it later on), they stopped many catastrophes and helped save the world multiple times by resorting to violence. Scott trying to kill his son, he was desperate, there were no new mutants and cable had kidnapped what was believed to be the messiah, Scott needed the baby and was desperate. Work over family... are you even serious, multiple times scott has put family first eg leaving the team after jean's death... leaving the time to marry jean... going undercover and threatening his life to try and save jean... he may have had past issues but he's not the monster you describe him to be. He brought pheonix back..... wtf do u even read comics, almost everyone who's read AvX has agreed with scott (as he was right, the phoenix did bring back the mutants). It was tony who split the phoenix force into five, the phoenix five actually made the world a better place (as confessed by beast). The phoenix force was slowly cut down to just cyclops and emma who at the time were both extremely unstable (because of the phoenix force) which lead to cyclops being unable to control his actions. If you even read a comic on the phoenix force corrupts the mind, cyclops initially believed it had come to revive mutantkind (which i repeat it did) but never expected to become a host he was corrupted and cannot be blamed for what he did (or jean, who killed an entire planet, shoul be persecuted). After being defeated he accepted his guilt and as read in consequences, he clearly wasn't clear on what happened. He only agreed to join magneto after seeing in prison that mutants were still being persecuted and he needed to do something. Many people argue the Bendis on uncanny x-men was a good book, not perfect but still good. This book made many change view on cyclops, he wasn't the boy scout anymore but was a anti-hero who'd become more popular with this book. Even then in Uncanny X-men 600 he made a speech which he tried his best to heal relations and many people forgave him. Death of X and inhumans vs X-men... seriously i don't think i have to explain this cyclops wasn't alive and emma frost went crazy... is that really his fault, and as many people still argue cyclops was right, terrigenisis was killing mutants and cyclops wanted to stop it inhumans were unintentionally committing murder. well thats my rant I've got more to say but i cba sorry about any grammar issues.
Ethan Wang I'm glad that some people realizes this. It gets really old when people keep trying to disrespect this character by taking things out of context.
Chris Pilcher wow... You're not even wrong. But "hated" is not the word I'd use for him. Reed is just too boring. It dumbfounds me that a character like Doom covets his life so much.
jinxfire his life is great though he gets paid to work on whatever he wants he gets to explore the far reaches of the universe for fun and when he's home he's surrounded by people who love him more than anything his best friend his brother in law who he actually likes his 2 insanely powerful children and on top of that he is married to one of the most beautiful and intelligent women in all of comics not to mention 1 of the most powerful who wouldn't want that life
PIDU Pizano okay, Ill admit I was wrong about his life, but what you just said just reinforce my opinion that he is a boring character. His lifestyle is perfect and his personality is non existent..
Come on looper it's from his shitty character and how it's written in all the live action movies that ruined him. Most people don't even know about any of this stuff.
Thinh Vo Then you most likely have not read the comics. The live action movies completely ruined the character of Cyclops. In the movies he is "supposedly" the leader but he barely gets recognition. He is just a whiney crying background character in the movies.
***** they didn't make him into an ass JUST for wolvie. He's just going through some shit, understandably, and wolvie has seen all the shit there is to see. So by comparison, he would look level headed while we actually see the change of an always moral leader. Its2not to make wolvie look better. But for us to take the journey WITH Cyclops
There does appear to be a significant push to demonize white male characters while promoting minority and female characters in their place. Comics have always been a medium to push social awareness and change but they've gone full agenda in recent years.
Yeah! because all those characters have made "Soooo little money" and are the main characters of "Soooo few movies"(rolls eyes). Meanwhile Black panther still isn't out yet and is the one of the very few marvel movies in recent years about a non white character...don't get me wrong Ironman is my favorite superhero from way back, and i have never disliked cyclops- i loved him in every cartoon, videogame, and toy. I even liked him from the more recent xmen movies because i like morally upstanding characters and have never really clicked with wolverine...especially since he is the focal point of all the xmen movies lately. Look we all love Hugh Jackman, but you have awesome characters like gambit, storm, colossus, jubilee, and iceman...we have had enough of logan.
I'm not talking about their movie incarnations or anything outside how they are being portrayed in recent years in comics. The movies, games and TV shows are for mainstream audiences. The comic incarnations are still for a niche audience which the comic creators are constantly trying to expand but their current method to do so seems to be at the expense of long term readers and by crapping on their existing characters in favor of gender and race swapping while still using the same names. Look what they've done to Captain America. First they gave Falcon the mantle and now they've turned Steve Rogers into a Nazi. Iron Man, is a black woman now. Thor, now a woman and a raging feminist. The Hulk, he's Asian. So instead of creating new truly unique characters they choose to keep riding on the brand recognition of existing properties and just flipping their race, gender, orientation, religion, etc.
He revived mutants because he believed that what his son said was true. Xavier's death was no different than when Jean was in the form of the Phoenix and destroyed civilizations. He was an emissary, not an individual in control. The phoenix was already coming and he knew this was a chance for mutants to make a comeback at the very least. He sacrificed himself to save an alternate version of his son from apocolypse. He did not choose work over family, the X-Men were his family and he felt he had as much responsibility to them as he did his wife at the time. it's like if you're gf or wife were trying to distance you from your family: you compromise. Scott went to see Jean because that wasn't only the love of his life, but also his best friend. who wouldn't want to see that person. The problem was that Maddie was insecure at the time and Scott was being distant after leaving the X-Men. It would have been a different story if she told him to go and then her and Nathan went missing. Which would have been better. He led the X-men since he was a teenager and had far more responsibility than most characters of the same age or older. The only reason he is strict was because he never wanted to loose team members on the field and was dedicated to being in control, something he had to do with his power set. He's named Cyclops because of the visor he wears, not because he shoots optic force blasts. This is getting old and redundant. I read this article about a week ago and I was interested to what it'd say about my favorite character. And it was exactly what I expected: an out of context examination of a character that is spotlighted for all of his mistakes rather than his good. Not only does this mislead readers to hate Cyclops when all they have seen of him were the movie, but it also ticks off plenty of others. Cyclops did not just up and leave Madelyne just because. There was far more to it to that and the two of them had been second guessing their relationship before Jean returned. A lot of this is the result of greed and irresponsible editorial involvement on Marvel's part. Cyclops has been, and possibly always is right, not because he's self righteous, but because he puts his Mutants and family first.
Andreus Dodson Jean killed by eating a star and not paying close attention to the life forms needs it, while Scott purposely killed Xavier out of anger
Andreus Dodson that "cosmically fueled temper tamptrum" is just him killing Xavier and using the Phoenix as an excuse which no one bought. Also he killed Xavier, yes you could argue it was out of being possessed but it wasn't that as he was clearly in control and had Jean tell him to let go
De'lahn Day They were never really in control at all, and the more Phoenix force they gained the less control they had. It's obvious from how Illyana and Colossus acted. Namor also acted irationally and suffered for it. There was some control, but it was barely there when Xavier was killed. Why do you think he went complete dark Phoenix after that?
wow you guys really twisted so much of what actually happened and how things went down. This feels like you only did half the research or just had someone who read the book 10 years ago tell you what happened from memory.
All that matters is some people actually know what happened and don't consider this video serious. Cyclops Marvels most hated character? Lol they must be kidding, Cyclops is the most hated like the Cowboys or Patriots are most hated. Tons of people love them, they are amazing, and yet pundits misunderstand the jealousy for hate. Nuff said
I'm incredibly heartened by all the fans defending Cyclops. Cyclops is the core of the X-men. So many of the "points" in this video are grossly out of context. I wasn't always a fan of his, but he's freaking awesome. I wish you could see that. I wish Marvel could get the rights to the X-men back so that he could finally get some justice.
Manuel Sacha I understand your point, but the fact of the matter is his analytical way of looking at the world is where most of his character problems stem from. anyway I hate his character and do not want a character that normalizes the objectification of women, genocide, chemical warfare, etc. as a hero let alone the leader of them. the heroes you look up to as a kid reflect the outlook and morals you hold the rest of your life. at a time before writers tried to give their lead a personality maybe, but does he really seem like a role model to you anymore?
Yes. Yes. Yes. There has been this massive anti-Cyclops push which irritates me greatly, especially with them trying to make Wolverine look like the good guy. I mean Wolverine is cool and all but seriously? He's a friggin' hypocrite. AvX only heightened that, not just for him but for Beast and Storm too. They can forgive Jean and Colossus for losing control of The Phoenix but not Scott? They can forgive Logan for trying to murder a baby but can't forgive Scott for protecting his people? Ugh.
I totally agree with you on this one. I started reading and watching the X-men because of Cyclops... I hope they do the heroe the honor he deserves and get right in the next movies and comics.
Ludacrisis Jakes, yeah because Scott is the only person objectifying women. Scott's worst women decisions have jack all about objectification and more to do with him being both indecisive and not being able to get over his initial relationship with Jean and even that was due to editorial meddling that saw him flip flopping again and again. When he and Emma get together, he treats her with utter respect and gives her enough power on the team that everyone including his good friends that should be better than that assume that she must be controlling his mind. The genocide bit, is also bullshit. Scott has nothing to do with a bunch of terrorists taking his name and supposed cause. His supposed genocide was him saying that he refused to let humans abuse mutants with impunity as they had been doing up until that point and even then he still did all in his power to help anyone and everyone he came across because he's a pretty good guy even with Marvel are trying to push him as "The New Magneto" and on the whole he was right about most of his points of view. Heck, even the Xavier's death bit is actually Xavier's fault for trying to literally shut off Scott's brain and continuing after Scott had warned him to stop. And this is after Scott had absorbed three shards of the Phoenix Force that had all been corrupted to the Dark Phoenix while his own had stayed light. Even X-men vs Inhumans couldn't make Scott as the villain believable. Because they took the moment to berate him for destroying a cloud that had proven super fatal to mutants, as in it was a horrific and painful death. But Scott is the bad guy for destroying those clouds because they allow the inhumans to gain powers. So let's see, actual people's lives vs a few people possibly getting super powers and that's not to mention that it makes exactly zero sense that Storm couldn't have rounded up all of those clouds with her power and then put them in a container or something. But yeah, Scott is such a villain for saying that its more important to save people's lives. >_>
Cyclops was always right, he was right during Avengers vs X-men, he was right during Inhumans vs X-men, for years his leadership was the main reason the mutants didn't go full extinction, only immature kids and movie fans dont like him because he was too serious.
uhm...he was in no way RIGHT in Inhumans Vs X-Men. Hell, technically he wasn't even in the event. He died in the prelude to it. (Hell, even then I kinda consider the Mutants idiots in that event)
He's right too. The Inhuman deserve a wrong end of optic blast for not coming out to publicly apologies to the mutant population when it first show sign of killing people. And Cyclop inerting on of the Terrigen mist is completely reasonable responses and didn't deserve of the death Medusa sentence on him ( extreme questioning sure but given circumstance that action save lives.) Plus mutant revolution is ended peacefully and you have to admit it is partly the Superhero community fault that the mutant get the wrong end of the deal dozen time over...to the point that it's kinda understandable that they form their own death-squad. Seriously, if Superman exist in Marvel there are no damn way he is going tolerate that type of Racism. He would do something about the world and publicly support the X-men...so no need for phoenix force and X-force incident. Can't defend the cheating part though must blame Joe Quasda for his hatred of Marriage that thing get this suck up
Travis Bellant I do remember Wolverine criticizing Cyclops for being on a relationship with Ema Frost, but then Cyclops mentions the fact that Wolverine went out with Jean, even though Scott was with her. *correct me if I wrong*
umm the pheonix thing wasn't his fault it was coming to earth anyway and Tony stark is the one who split it into five pieces and is not that he wanted more power they all did look magik and colosis they began fighting before. And it was the pheonix killing professor x because Cyclops couldnt controll it because he wasn't a telepath. the entire time avengers vs X-Men was happening Cyclops was never wrong about anything he said and he was very remorseful about his death what he did say was that he would do it all again because new mutants began to pop up did you guys read the comic or just take some shots that may nah been out of context
Emile Cournand I agreed with him on the not wanting non- mutants to be in mutant affairs but Captain America had good point that it would've been easier if the Avengers helped. I was more on the X-Men side until Cyclops attacked the Avengers. He started the whole fight because he didn't want any help. That's when I was like, "It would've been easier just to ignore them" and turned to the Avengers side.
+Matt Way No cyclops didn't turn to avengers for legit reasons. His time travelling son from the future (Cable) warned him not to let the avengers take hope under any circumstances as it would result in the phoenix destroying the planet. So when good ol self righteous captain america decided to invade a sovereign nation not under caps or america's jurisdiction and demand they turn over one of their citizens, cyclops as the leader of said nation did what anyone with half a brain would do. Refuse. Cap was in the wrong throughout the comic and tony was just a grade A asshole as per usual. Everyone talks about how Cyclops killed the Prof. There is not a single doubt that it was in self defense. Charles started attacking scott telepathically but scott warned him multiple times to stop and back off. The professor decided to keep on attacking his already unstable mind and in the end cyke killed him. So it was the professors fault that he kicked the bucket.
It's one of my favorite character AND I started to really like him long after Jean's death. The only thing I hate is how Marvel was and still is treating X-men. Always worst than Avengers, always shown as the villains in bigger event. He was one of the few character in Marvel who wasn't buying Captain America's hypocrisy and sais how it really was. This material is really a trash...skipping uncovinient facts just to make (stupid) point about Cyclops. And how about Wanda?? She killed thousands mutants and they let her life now as a hero just because they came up with some ridiculus idea that it was all Doom's fault. But Cyclops killing Xavier under influence of Phoenix make him a murderer! AND don't forget who's fault it was that Phoenix split into five X-men....Tony Stark and his stupid machine! If Hope would embrace it then there would be no war at all. You all saw at the end that she handeled it perfectly and no dark side came up. But noooo.... Avenegrs couldn't let that happened...let X-men decide on any crucial matter. They all came to Utopia fully prepared to fight insted. CYCLOPS WAS RIGHT.
Aaaaand. All those features you pick about him actually make him a great character to read. Come on! Who cares about those good-bad characters. That's not intresting at all for me. Give me something in bethween. That's why I also love Emma Frost, Lyra Miller, Daken or Magik.
Cyclops is one of the most recognizable X-Men. Cyclops is also the leader of the X-Men and he has an awesome power. The original films portrayed him as trash and they were wrong for doing so.
Cyclops was the field leader and the person coming up with the tactics. In the movie, most all of that was ignored and he became just a jock who shot lasers from his eyes. During the first movie when cyclops told storm to use lightning while they were in the statue of liberty, my first though was BS, Cyclops is smarter than that. If that scene was in a comic, Cyclops would be the one telling storm to NOT use lightning while in the statue.
Cyclops have been this way since the beginning of the 90', so it not a recent thing, and you are an idiot for idealising a character as flawed as Cyclops is like idealising the fundamentalist from ISIS.
TheKeyser94 I don't know how you can stomach what you just said. You just compared a character who has saved millions, if not more, to people who would like to do the opposite.
@@calvintyler9281 Like anyone in his position could do better, this is just a proof that people only notice the mistakes a person has done and never acknowledge the good things.
The one thing I dislike about Cyclops was how emotional closed up he was to other X-men. If he opened up more they would at least see a broken leader. I mean it like he didn't care if his old friend Beast left him, but was mad when Logan split the team. His actions may have their moments, but the consequences cost him his "family" within the X-men.
He does in the early days. There is a few comics back when, when cyclops starts complaining to Pro X about how unfair life is. Pro X tells him it is and you cant dwell on it and he points out he cant walk anymore. Cyclops then becomes remorseful and sorry started to say he was sorry and he would work on being a better leader. Cyclops changed alot after the X-Men movies came out. Cyclops in the early days was a mecha beast. There was a training situation where cyclops beat colossus, storm and wolverine at the same time. There was another comic where cyclops is telling the new students that they need to fight, not all the time but when the time comes they need to fight. Wolverine says other wise and wolverine and cyclops fight. Cyclops could of easily dealt with him but didnt because the kids were there. Sentinels come and they end up fighting the sentinels and winning and wolverine apologizes to cyclops. Realistically cyclops was the best choice for good guy turned bad but it makes no sense to anyone, every can literally chop it up to hollywood and then comic book writers trying to cash in some money making X-Men about wolverine. Cyclops was the captain america of the x-men except he was probably the 3-4 strongest person behind magneto, pro x and the juggernaut. Simply put his character was changed for money.
There are panels showing Xavier telling him he's too emotional and how he tried to train it out of him. Xavier basically told Cyke to not get too emotional or his murder eyes would eff everything up. He also spent six years in Sinister's orphanage where all of the other children were programmed to bully him and teachers who got too close ended up lobotomize; intentionally isolating him to break down his willpower so Sinister could control him. He lost some crucial adolescent socialization years there. And to be fair, Beast turned into a real asshole at that time. I'd want him gone too.
Cyclops is a total badass with an awesome super power. Gambit is also badass. Considering Captain America and Hawkeye are getting so much attention lately, it really becomes obvious how cool superheros like Cyclops and Gambit really are....
PLEASE! Cyclops has always been such a hating dickhead on Wolverine all the damn time and Jean Grey always knew that he was a good man which is why I always say that she should just dump Scott and be with Logan.
I don't hate Cyclops. Reading him lead the X-men was pretty interesting, and not everything they said was accurate. He sent X-Force into the future to retrieve the mutant messiah not kill Cable. Let's be realistic here. If cyclops really wanted to kill everyone while possessed by the phoenix force, a lot of people would have been dead. The reason professor X died is because no one gave him a chance to reverse it like he did with beast. Admittedly the whole mutant revolution ended up being a joke, but I still had great hopes for Cyclops until they killed him off randomly.
Let us be frank here Cyclops was at his best at the beginning of the revolution. Thing is Marvel is shitting on the comics ever since their movies became a success. They keep turning straight characters into gay characters(which makes no sense since they do have some decent gay characters which were already gay from the beginning), most arcs put hero against hero instead of properly using the VIllains they have at their disposal. Some of their villainous portrayals of certain heores end up being a fiasco beause that villainous hero ends up being right most of the time... Anyways, I still think Cyclops was right in wanting a revolution, ever since the beginning him and the x-men have been shedding their own blood for the human race only to get rewarded with violence and death of their own. Magneto had been proven right many times, and now Cyclops. Even back at AvX, of the Phoenix V Cyclops was the only one in control of himself, he butted heads with the other Phonix V multiple times, however no one ever supported him, and the avengers NEVER even considered accepting his point of view that Hope could be trained to control the Phoenix Force. All he did was met with violence and hardheadness, so you can so how he would lose control of himself when they even had the gall to call Xavier to convince him to stop(which he was already trying to do to the others in the backstage). At the end of the day he was right, the Avengers gave up and finally tried training Hope and she succeeded, proving that the Avengers excess of zeal ended up causing multiple unnecessary deaths and more hatred on mutants which did nothing to deserve that. the whole event was a mistake and only served to transform Cyclops into what he became later on. I pity not the lives lost at his hands, I pity not Xavier who failed to see his true self and his sufering, because Xavier was afraid he would become the next Dark Phoenix(He ended up causing the fall of Cyclops instead).
Wow. People actually take the everlasting utterly demented convoluted main line of X-Men (or any other non-stop comic) seriously? I started reading Marvel and DC stuff when I was 10, and stopped at around 16. Graphic novels and shorter stories are really the only worthwhile things. In the main lines, authors change so much you can just about find anything you want and interpret things however you want. It's like a morning cartoon, they have a cycle of a few years because you would expect people to grow out of it.
Yep, I agree with you, just like you I stopped following these dumb stories when I stopped being a teenager, I couldn't bare the ammount of meaningless ressurections. Cyclops for me was the best x-man, for me he is the character I met in the 90's, I couldn't care les about this dumb shit they write these days. It seems mutants are really hated by their own writers.
I agree with most of your sentiment except.....I'll allow people to conversate about this seriously. Why not? Fandom is Fandom. how many other pieces of media make NO sense. I mean have you seen Anime lol(im not a hater but, hey, truth)
+Matt Gonzales Well, I'd jumble those animes that last 500 episodes on the exact same boat of neverending sillyness. There's a lot of pieces of media that don't make sense, but not the media itself. There are legit good comics that have been made and are being made, just like they are legit good animes, and tv shows, and the like. Saying "allow" is not proper, they can argue all they want. But after 50 years of chronology you can just about pick and choose anything and there's no character or plot development that's meaningful.
AvX is essentially Cable coming from the future to warn Cyclops that the Avengers are gonna kill Hope Summers and this will lead to earth becoming a barren wasteland in the future. Cyclops responds to this by trying to protect Hope with every last ounce of energy that he has, while the Avengers ignorantly try to arrest her and take her into custody because they believe she'll become too powerful and destroy the planet. At the end of the story, Cyclops was right, and Hope was worth protecting.
Sethdevan well developed yes, but I think the feud with fox over the rights of the x-men caused this "intentional" bad writing for the character. It's sad as he is one of my favorites in the x-men, second to Night Crawler
He really should just stay the fuck away from Jean Grey. Their relationship is extremely toxic. The constant death/resurrection , the fact that it isn't even her half the time. There is only so much a person can take.
I happen to like Cyclops quite a bit. Cyclops is an excellent leader of the team of X-Men. ... I really had hoped the X-Men: Origins theme would have produced a movie about Cyclops and other mutants, rather than just focusing on Wolverine.
Michael Zoran I agree. I think he's one of the best team leaders in the Marvel Universe. Too bad the X-Men movies portrayed him as an over jealous, weak, ineffective and useless leader...plus they made him rivals with Wolvie so many people automatically disliked him (and he's the same height as Wolverine...even though he's more than a foot taller than him in comics/original animated series).
cheesesteakphilly - Yeah, I thought that the video was remiss in not pointing out that his portrayal in the films is a big reason why he's often hated. That actor is barely likeable in Westworld, as well.
I thought it was because he was forced to be the voice of reason to Logan’s constant emotion streaks and everyone loves wolverine...deadliest nail tech ever
He's the ultimate superhero team leader and has to be the voice of reason. Logan would be the worst leader ever, but that's what makes him interesting as a character.
and alot of these things listed are out of context and are better understood if u read the comics, also Looper never reads the comics or whatever meaning alot of their content is bs
Frustrates me that Cyclops, a character who can be absolutely amazing when handled by the right people (see Joss Whedon's run with Asontishing X-Men) gets so poorly used by so many writers.
X-men fan here that read +400 x-men comics. Do you want the real reason of Cyclops shift ? Go read Decimation(After House of M event). In there they show you how some religious fanatics called Purifier explode a Bus full of ex-mutant kids and raid the school with machine gun. After the funeral he decide to create X-force to hunt down anti-mutants terrorist group. He didn't change in a day, there where docent of reason that change him. The popular opinion that people hate cyclops come from people that haven't been following the overall story and just find a evil cyclops without explanation.
"How Cyclops Became The Most Hated Marvel Character?" Long answer short when the creators decided to screw him up just to make Logan look good coz of how popular Wolverine became after Hugh Jackman portrayed him while Cyclops was made to look like an idiot in the films.
Nope, Cyclops still is, and always will be my favorite character. The writers fucked up with AvsX and also with the movies Cyclops. The real OG cyclops will forever be the one in the five original xmen, their leader and the best strategist in Marvel.
Everything the Inhumans, the Government, Madelyne who married a mutant freedom fighter and then hated him for being a mutant freedom fighter, hell even cheating with Emma I mean come on Jean was smooching Logan at the same time at least his discretions were psychic. So yeah Cyclops was right. Also as for Xavier I loved till the 00's Cyclops wasn't the only one to become a douche I mean Vulcan and Danger prove Xavier was a douche too maybe that's where Scott got it from.
So Scott got some nookie in the wake of Jeans deaths, was he supposed to become a monk? That Madelyn thing was a total setup that preyed on his love of Jean, and Lee and Coleen were cool hotties. So later he falls for Emma but so what, they make a better couple anyways, and Jean just dies again regardless. The Phoenix force was coming to earth no matter what Scott did and when he ended up having it (thanks to Stark) he and the Phoenix 5 did amazing things to help the earth while the Avengers pestered them and caused friction and chaos. Nobody can harness the Phoenix force without incident and he did better than some. The mutants backs were against the wall and Scott had to lead them from the brink of extinction, he had to make some hard and dark choices but take one look at the enemies he threw x force at and tell me they deserved anything but what they got. And Logan could have thrown Laura off x force anytime, she wanted to fight. They made him an outlaw but he still had to lead his people, the XMEN have always been outlaws anyways. Cyclops forever.
The X men movies and comics did Cyclops so dirty. Turned him into a lame stuck up dork to make Wolverine look cooler by comparison in the movies. Then in the comics they turn him into a cheating scumbag so fans would love wolverine more. He deserves so much better he's one of the coolest most underrated heroes ever.
I always thought Scott Summers was the Marvel Universe's equivalent of The DC Universe's Clark Kent. Not power wise, obviously, but in them both being their respective teams "boy scout". Both being their teams ethical/moral centre. Where Superman was written to be the personification of "being raised right" and "Old school American morality", which kind of works (in how he was written being the total outsider), Scott Summers was usually written as a "holier than thou" arsehole who looked down on those team mates who he thought didn't measure up (mostly Wolverine). DC explored the Superman dark side in some of their Elseworld's storylines, most recently the Injustice game and comic book series. Scott Summers was just made to go full on extremist in the main Marvel Comic Universe, which to be honest I kind of liked, as it worked in the long running "Mutant rights" arc. Professor X and Magneto being the fictional equivalent of Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X, Scott Summers was the "villain by a thousand cuts" that has worked so well in TV shows like Breaking Bad. Cyclops being made the villain by him going further and further toward the Dark Side to get things done until he goes full on villain was actually written well (In the comics I have read). Where as Wolverine had done some down right "not nice things" over his 200-ish year lifespan, he still has held on to his moral centre, he has gone insane in a couple of comic runs but mostly has stayed a "good guy" (Weapon X brain washing and mind wipes not counted).
kevin carballo I see a Black panther as the Batman. Dark suit. Serious vibe. Incredibly rich. Intelligent. Brilliant fighter. Parents death changed him. Even his dry/lack of sense of humour matches Batman.
One of the best character developments in any hero/villain in the Marvel universe if you ask me. Maybe hated by his fellow heroes, but not hated by many readers.
I never was a big cyclops fan in the beginning. But he grew on me after he became Xavier's School Headmaster in 2004. Only then he showed his leadership abilities.
the whole love issue thing is clearly on the wrong side of the writers who keep having Jean died. People love wolverine and wanted him to be happy and one of the people who made him happy is Jean, hence people keep clinging for way to kill jean, having Scott to move on so they can fix Logan with jean. But it's difficult since jean and Scott is a hot topic from the get-go, so they kill her multiple times and try to fix him up with numerous that resembles jean or settling him with jean before pulling the rug under him.
I think that Cyclops, and Proffessor X and Jean Grey Beast Ice Man , and Angel are just way too Iconic. So basically all their stories get marginalized in hopes that Marvel will get back movie rights to Mutants in the Marvel Universe.
Ur right. Marvel writers have done Cyclops dirty. The assumption was he was too goody goody so they tried to make home edgier while at the same time elevating Wolverine to cool headed, experienced leader and they totally lucked up both characters.
Cyclops is the man. Tragically flawed character. But he knew the stakes and was always willing to lead by example and put himself on the line even if eveyone hated him. I like how he became increasingly more militant and less boyscout.
The irony of it all is that everything FOX tried to do with Wolverine and Mystique, they SHOULD'VE been doing with Cyclops/Gambit and Rogue/Storm. Those are truly the four most complex X-Men characters. A few they've chosen to focus on have always been a bit overrated.
I just liked to compare old Scott here to Gambit, who never once cheated on Rogue and always stood by her *even when he couldn't fucking touch her half the time* .
Okay it seems you don't know what you are on about. here is some info that might help Scott loves jean jean gets put in a cocoon by the phoenix phoenix pretends to be jean and takes over her life. all the while scott still thinks its still his jean (who is still in a cocoon underwater) phoenix ends up killing billions and commits suicide. scott is heartbroken a year of two later scott meets maddie now maddie looks exactly like jean (and some other striking coincidences like her being the only survivor of an plane crash and having lost memories of beforehand, this happened on the same day jean died). scott tells maddie this, who although shocked at first but is okay with it. scott thinks maddie is jean reincarnated. scott is forced to quit being the leader of x men after losing a fight against a powerless storm. (maddie used her powers without knowing to manipulate the fight) their marriage is going downhill as scott just can't forget jean. cable is born. after a while, jean, the real jean returns from her hibernation. scott wants to see her (not to get back together with her but just see her, which is okay considering she was and still is the love of his life). maddie gives him an ultimatum. scott goes anyway scott and jean meet, saves the world a few times and scotts returns to maddie (did not cheat on maddie). but all traces of maddie and his son had been wiped of the map. Scott sad Scott tries to find them. blah blah blah. stuff happens. Maddie turns out to be a clone of jean grey who was programmed to love scott by mr sinister who wanted the super powerful baby they made (Cable). Maddie dies After a while jean and scott get together and they look after cable as a family. jean and cyke gets hitched. cable gets infected with a virus, so he had to be sent to the future to survive. lots of stuff happens after cyclops gets possessed by apocalypse and poor cyke has been changed fundamentally, his personality becomes darker. jean's ability of being a bitch grows proportionally with her telekinetic and telepathic powers to the point she was just emotionally abusing scott. emma frost falls in love with scott. he rebukes her. emma frost under the guise of being his therapist takes advantage of his vulnerable mental state and pushes him to have a telepathic affair. jean on the other hand tries to have a proper physical affair with wolverine. Wolverine says hell no slut. (he doesn't actually but he should have). jean dies scott is heartbroken scott quits x men and leaves jean being the phoenix is chilling in the white hot room and looks into the future and sees that without cyclops leadership mutants will die off and the world turns to shit. jean telepathically pushes cyclops to start a relationship with emma and continue leading the x men.
Okay no did even you watch this video? 1. Before the shit with Phoenix even happened jean died and Scott got over it in nano seconds and then decided he loved her later 2. She then died again and Scott just tried to replace Jean with Maddie instead of finding someone else, even leaving Maddie pregnant *douchebag move* 3. Even when he's with Jean he has telepathic affair with Pyslocke s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/d9/3f/f9/d93ff95288048d52a7edb4b365fbe342.jpg 4. Scott doesn't need a excuse with Emma, he doesn't hold off at all even the day straight after Jean dies again leading to Wolverine punching him out static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/11111/111111652/4095304-1828027-wolverine_vs_cyclops_one.jpg. He wasn't even fully possessed by the PF when he killed the Professor.
+Scott Summers I'm sorry Cyke fan but *how* can it be taken out of context when even Cycolps himself admits what he did or tries to justify his actions like with Emma and Jean. I think he's interesting character and an extreme anti-villain but that doesn't make his decisions any less cruel or twisted.
At that time yes, but all the rest time he knew what he was doing, causing Logan to punch him out when he finds them together static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/11111/111111652/4095304-1828027-wolverine_vs_cyclops_one.jpg And Pylocke did not need to convince or trick him, and they had both mental and physical affair. s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/d9/3f/f9/d93ff95288048d52a7edb4b365fbe342.jpg s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/9b/eb/39/9beb394644a4881b93427759c130d03a.jpg He can't help himself, he's worst lover in the whole Marvel universe.
Really doesn't excuse Cycolps Wolverine was fully justified in punching him out. They aren't taken out of context, I've read the comic Jean confronts Pyslocke about it later s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/27/89/23/278923cc4342b134194a38496e1c0c69.jpg You need to actually fins the comics thelves instead of just hearing about them, Cycolps doesn't need a defense squad. He killed Professor X even he wasn't fully controlled by Phoenix Force.
Wow. So much of this shit is warped SO badly out of context, that it feels deliberate! Cyclops was a flawed character, but this video goes beyond slander for the sake of witty little quips! The hypocrisy of this video's take on AvsX especially, showcases an agenda that refuses to use CONTEXT. The mutant race was wiped out by Wanda (which Cap and the Avengers conveniently gave her a pass on) & the Phoenix force was the last hope to respark the X-gene! The latter half post AvsX, does show that Cyclops did become a victim of asshole writers determined to make the character a villain, but a lot of this vid is asinine. (Feel free to troll away at this comment)
I personally really like Cyclops. I mean he is super flawed, but I really thinks that makes him more realistic. I mean his childhood is really screwed up, he had to go through the death of the love of his life more than once (and idk for sure but that fucks you up). Scott is a great leader who knows what he wants. His willpower is insane. Up until the Phoenix thing. Honestly, I'm really happy with a young cyclops being able to see what he could become and because of that, this new young Scott could become a better cyclops then he ever was in the original timeline.
I'm fairly certain a lot the direction they took with Cyclops and X-Men was part of Marvel's overall plan to purposely slowly dismantle the X-Men and pretty much most of the mutants in the Marvel Universe over the past 10 or so years, since up to now they couldn't get the movie rights back from FOX. They felt FOX had too much control and wasn't moving the franchise in a good direction. Now that Disney basically owns Fox they might try to resurrect the franchise, maybe in alt Earth.
With all the bullshit Scott has been through simply because he was chosen to be the initial leader of The X-Men, I wouldn't be surprised if he had some sort of PTSD causing him to become "evil".
Cool is subjective, ignoring your personal views. That's not the point, the point is that this is absolutely shit writing. Regardless how you feel about his cuckery, it was bad writing.
Cyclops is my favorite character he embodies a leader and may have been mis handled by writers due to them favoring other teammates or just not knowing how to write Scott but looper you're wrong for this one
