I know this video is 8 months "old" ... but I just saw it. And I have to say that Dallas Library is amazing with their available programs; and should be a model for all libraries (since homelessness can happen anywhere)!! Kudos to them ... it's a step in the right direction!! Hugs to all!!
They say that a good gauge or a good way to measure how good or how compassionate and well off a society is, is to see how well they treat those that are down and out and those that are the so called "lowest" in the social hierarchy of our society. It's always good to serve those that aren't doing so well in life because none of us are ever 100% foolproof from being in that situation ourselves, no one is. At any given moment in our lives a tragedy can happen, a medical emergency, something negative and life changing that could alter our lives forever, but hopefully most people that do find themselves suddenly in a situation like that can bounce back sooner rather than later. Bless all of you good hearts out there that understand that many of these people do need help, love, and compassion from those of us who are currently doing better than they are and find it in our heart to help them. And some people may say that a good chunk of homeless and down and out people are there because of their own actions, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't help them either. Sure, most of us know that that's true, that quite a few homeless people are there because of their actions directly, or because of the consequences of their past actions that directly and indirectly led them to being homeless and/or without any savings that would provide them with the basic needs of having shelter, food, and a job. But what many of the people that judge these poor human beings don't realize is that many of the homeless that are there due to their negative actions, that many times they are mentally ill, or in a situation in life where their mental health has declined due to terrible circumstances, or that they have genetic mental issues that they can't do anything about, or those that are temporarily mentally ill or whatever else the issues are or combination of those issues. Still, it doesn't matter, it is our job to help and even though we can't help everyone change their ways or maybe some choose to not help themselves, by helping them we show them that there is compassion in society, we help them see that the world is good, so those that do help themselves we help them make it out of their rut, and those that don't choose to help themselves make changes we still make a positive impact in their lives so that when they are ready to change, to quit their addiction, to improve themselves, then they will have done so in part due to our positive influences on their lives. Godspeed to all of you helping to improve the lives of these people and the ones doing their best to change themselves for the better. God bless.
Dallas is my favorite city and worked downtown at At&t so I saw the homeless every day at the library so glade people are helping them God is good want he do it
What a wonderful idea. Kudos to this public library who cares for all of its patrons. It is inspiring me to do more as I am listening to these videos. Blessings.
I've been watching your videos for a few years now and I like how you are highlighting what different communities are doing to help people feel normal in an otherwise abnormal existence. This will hopefully give other communities ideas and we can learn from each other.
I love the picture of Dr. Kings words with the water. The Dallas library has got it goin on. What an innovative program for a library. I would love to see other cities take the initive and actually see people. Instead of trying to sweep them under the rug. People need to remember that they reap what they sow.
I know that library. It is so overrun with homeless people that the public cannot use this library. Naked bums bathing in the bathroom sinks. Malodorous tramps asleep in all the seats. Foul language. Addicts shooting up in the toilets A citizen doesn't feel safe. To get in the place, you run a gauntlet of: "Hey, you got a dollar?" The reason the homeless are there is simply that they won't follow the rules of the homeless shelters.
