The evil eye's backstory hit too close to home, as i was teacher in some troubled kids schools. And that kinda story happens way more often than i wanna believe
Damn. Just the mention of Vamola's name made me tear up. I know the upcoming anime wont reach that part in the first season. But i can really expect myself to bawl once it does get there
@rauwro I loved that scene because their relationship reminds me of me and my girlfriends relationship because she was really popular and I had no friends before her so their relationship is special to me
Bro, Zumas backstory is simultaneously the most mundane and yet simultaneously the most “what the fuck?!” Because you saw from start to finish how he went from a happy family to his mother trying to rope him into a murder suicide because of how cooked they were.
Love the videos man. We read a lot of the same stuff based on your videos and I love the enthusiasm. That transition around 1:30 was cool as hell too I had to rewind and make sure I wasn’t tripping when the panel zoomed in and changed into one of the golden balls. You’re giving me some things to try to incorporate into my own stuff. Keep it up man
Thank you, man! Glad you enjoyed the video!! And I WISH I could take credit for that but that clip is from an official manga trailer on Shonen Jumps’s RU-vid 😭 this is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o7elg8j0UKg.htmlsi=EndxlKHutyCKbe8B
We're given some amount of backstory for just about every evil spiriy they fought, and that made me think of a theory on how evil spirits form in the world. (Idk if other people have said this already, or if it's obvious, but anyways...) It's pain. Pain so overwhelming that their spirits stubbornly refuse to move on, and they seem to forget every other part of themselves. They are sometimes able to see past that pain and save people, like Reiko Kashima. Others, like Evil Eye, aren't exactly redeemed but have some desire fulfilled. with Okarun agrees to "play" with him once a week. I do think adding last minute backstory to villains can be kinda lame, like just a cheap way to garner sympathy from the audience. I also think it's important that it is not done to justify the bad things they've done. However, I think Dandadan doesn't do either of those; it pulls it off spectacularly.
I just realized that we barely know anything about Okarun. I don't know if it is on purpose. We don't know about his family or parents, we have never seen his home or where he sleeps.
1) October 2024 release, _the later the better, especially in good hands , let 'em cook !! 2) a backstory isn't necessary to make a compelling character, _demon slayer ,take notes
@@rauwro yes it does , RU-vidr "captain mack" has a videos putting it to words just how bad it gets (I don't know if my comment deleted itself or what , pls don't mind my faulty connection)
Amazing Vid. Dandadan is honesty kind of a gold standard on how to not only make but also deliver a gut wrenching backstory told through flashbacks (yes, it was a rainy day when I read Acrosilkys' backstory). Keep up the good work man. I love your enthusiasm towards the series and definitely looking forward to more Dandadan coverage.
Brilliant video. Great writing and observations and the little chart added in to solidify your points was so well thought out. Good job! Evil eye had a great backstory! Obviously you couldn't fit them all but that shows you how every character no matter how big or small is made with care and love in Dandadan.
I personally dont like dandadans backstories and i cant care much about the characters (except for momo and okarun, ofc). The backstories feel cheap, as if the author made a situation first, and in 5 minutes or so thought of a tear jerker that is (almost) always related to family to put in there to try to make people care abt the characters. I dont dislike the series. I really enjoy it and like how the characters designs are, the artstyle, the comedy, etc; but i cant with how they try to push it so much in your face to like a character just because they had a sad past. Also, they have waaaaay too many characters that are part of the main cast, wich makes it even harder to care for all of them. I think they should let us spend more time with some characters and let us slowly grow with them, and not put a random sad backstory about how the character wanted to gove food to his dying dad but couldnt because they were poor, and just move onto the 378th new character that can transform into the water bottle ghost-hybrid or something like that
A backstory is just a backstory. It’s not pushing you to like them if you don’t, it just is what it is. I’m surprised you even like the Shonen genre if this style of backstory bothers you, it’s incredibly common.
Awesome vid as always. Also, can't blame my man for getting a bit too excited about battle granny with baseball bat. (Ps: seeing the first pages all over again just made me realise that travelling via phone lines was his skill from the very start, lol)
thank you ! and yes! Dandadan already gets so many points for being the only manga with Seiko 😌 (and really? i didn’t notice! i’ll have to check again! that’s cool to imagine it was always part of the plan)
@@rauwro this manga could be an advertisment "hot grannies in your local area, with baseball bats, going 100 km/h and fighting aliens", lol. (and yeah, he got to the first fight via Momo's phone. And if first chapter really was done without thinking too much about consistency, it's also cool, meaning author revisit cool ideas from previous chapters)
