In this video, I'll discuss the bite force, speed, intelligence, and other characteristics of the Doberman Pinscher which helps to make them one of the world's best guard dogs. We'll explore not only how dangerous they can be, but how dangerous they really are, and if you should be afraid next time you see a Doberman. Also, we'll dive into what the temperament of the modern-day Doberman is really like-it might not be what you expect!

Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ru-vid.comUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

Bought up with Dobermans as my very kind Father bred them. No incidents. Phenomenal dogs. Ended up with a prime Doberman when the puppies were sold off. He followed me everywhere. We lived in a very large county area, lots of territory - mixture of farm and woodland - to explore on weekends. He protected me from so many poisonous snakes that I was taught to avoid from an early age. When I was twelve, there was a storm and upon visiting the dam the day after, there was a duck and five ducklings struggling to stay afloat. My Doberman rushed in and tried to save all of them, mouthed them gently to nudge them to shore as well as the mother. Four survived due to him.

You made me realize how much I actually love Dobermans. My current dog is an American Staffordshire Terrier, I‘ve always loved the more "dangerous breeds" (how people call them). I know for a fact that your videos gave me a lot of motivation to get me a doberman after this one. Had a hard time raising my Amstaff, but he‘s the loveliest dog I‘ve ever seen, he won‘t even touch a fly (seriously). Thank you for your amazing videos! ❤️

I'm glad you mentioned about training! Every dog in the world can be aggressive and dangerous if they didn't get trained and socialized from an early age. The breed doesn't play too big of a difference, it mainly comes down to the owner, the training, and how well the dog was socialized.

So impressed with your videos. Grew up with Dobermans and have since had many dogs. No dog has ever compared to the bond our Dobermans had with us. Their main duty, as they saw it, was patrolling our property and protecting our family. Plus, giving us lots of love! Dad was careful to check out the parents of a prospective Doberman puppy, and also choose a puppy with the best temperament. Each individual puppy has his own unique temperament. You are right on about a Doberman looking you in the eyes, maintaining eye contact. The only other dog we had that came close was a Dachshund. For people in apartments, or small yards, Dachshunds are a good choice. Very loyal, maintains good eye contact, thinks he's a Doberman in a small body.

@@gigisoglamorousipeeglitter7466 I get what you're saying, but you must understand that not everyone is able to do that, and the Doberman is a fine animal as an assistance dog to the disabled. Most people who are disabled live in little apartments. Like me. It is less convenient than having a yard, but my guy is exercised daily and gets to run, he gets proper care it just isn't in a private yard. I take good care of my dog, he wants for nothing even when I have to skip meals, but without him I wouldn't be alive so he's worth it beyond my love for him, I need him to survive. And believe me when I say he is very spoiled and doted upon, and always at my side 24/7.

You hit the nail on the head. It's how you raise them. I had an 4 month old that was growling and showing her teeth at my daughter when she got near her bone. I had to correct her. Immediately while it happened. After that she could pick up her bone with no problems after that. Just make sure you give it right back to them and praise them for letting you take it and give it back. It's all in the training and positive reinforcement.

Only a couple days into your channel I am absolutely loving it. My second of two Dobermans had a touch of Rottweiler mix in him. He was the most beautiful dog. He had all of the features of a Doberman including short hair, but look more like the European Doberman. Had a little thicker neck and a bigger muzzle he was 125 male pound dog. Because we’re on the subject I have to reference one of my earlier favorite movies was the James Garner movie ”They only kill their masters” often wondered at the time if that had any impact in contributing to their “Bad Boy” Image I’d be curious how many of your subscribers remember that movie?

I have had 2 Dobies so far in my life. My 1st one was the best dog I ever had in my life. She really thought she was human. I never knew a dog could be that smart, emotional, empathetic, and compassionate. She could read your feeling unbelievably well for instance if you were sad she would come and comfort you. If you wanted your space she would give it but be close by within earshot. She could also read other people's character. If someone was no good she would let it be known and sometime try to eat them! I just thought she was over protective but she knew something we didn't it turns out. She had even caught an intruder one time. My Dad's associate happen to walk into our house one evening while we were gone. This is a large itialian guy! We cam home hours later and she had this dude pinned back against the wall right by the front door with her mouth around his neck. It was truly an amazing sight. A large man profusely sweating with a Doberman with it's mouth around his neck paws like gripping his shoulders. The guy has pissed himself, according to him because he was there so long! Mmmmhmmm! But anyway, I have had several different breeds of dogs throughout my life and by far my 1st Dobie who was raised by us since a baby was a part of our family. She was not considered our pet. She live a very very long time in Dobie life expectancy. I can't say exactly how old she was because I was a child when I got her and she passed away when I was 19-20 years old! So I would have have to ask my Dad who probably doesn't know and my mom passed away last year. I would say she had to have lived about 12- 15-16 years. I will try to find out exactly and update. I know she outlive many Dobies according to what I have read. Anyway, these are great loving, protective, loyal dogs. You would be hard pressed to find a dog that can compare with the equivalent traits and characteristics of these dogs. Sorry for the long ramble!

I was actually terrified to bring my Shih Tzu over to my girlfriends house because of her doberman. Even though I loved him dearly, I didn't know how he'd react to a male Shih Tzu. Well, after the initial heart-stopping moment of walking into the house with my 18 year old Shih Tzu, they ended up being the best of friends and my dog used to walk underneath her doberman all the time. It was just too funny for words. My dog only weighed 9 lbs, so you can imagine. I think because my dog was a very calm dog and got along with all dogs, that helped . His best friend was a greyhound, believe it or not. I think it's the size, the fact it's all black, scares people. If anybody comes up the front walkway and sees the dog behind the glass storm door, they leave and won't come up to the door. I was that way also until I got to know that dog, who was the sweetest dog ever. I have a problem with people with large dogs going to the park and not being able to control or even hold onto their dogs, now that scares me. If your dog isn't trained or hasn't been socialized, a public park is the last place it should be, period.

Here’s my Doberman tip for the day. Mine is trained and very protective and is not to be feared while I’m in the area while visitors are over. That being said, I will never leave her alone with visitors. Why look for problems which could arise from visitor behavior. It’s been my experience humans cause most dog attacks by their own actions or body language.
@DavidEVogel
@DavidEVogel 5 лет назад
All good points. The Doberman is protective. His house and yard are his territory, and the Doberman will protect his territory. Walking with the family, he is alert to any possible dangers. His “job” is to protect the family. It make sense not to approach the Doberman without the “pack leader” present. Once the Doberman knows you, and knows that you are not a threat, he is a big baby: ready to play, wrestle, run, and cuddle with endless kisses.

After going on doberman forums, I learned that i should not have a doberman. However, i was ready for my puppy. Omg! I'm so glad I didn't listen to the forums. I raised an amazing, sweet, obedient, smart , clown. He goes everywhere with me (except work, which after reading forums.. I probably shouldn't have a dobie if I work). We are best friends. I really think that my dog mirrors my personality completely. We are so laid back. We are social. We are protective if need be. I don't know if i got lucky, but i do know I did something right. Everyone asks about my sweet boy Lyric. The only thing i will say, is that for a first puppy, i had no real idea what i was getting into. I think that would go for any puppy i would have chosen though. You can read everything, and still it will all be different. Is he vicious? Nah. He comes and finds me when he is scared. I had a Doberman years ago from the time she was a pup until her hips got so bad we had to let her go at the age of 12. There were only 2 times that I saw that dog really mad. The first a tree trimmer for the power company came into the back yard without letting us know he was there. The back yard was her territory. The second time was with me. My wife worked nights and slept while I was at work during the day. I got rained out from work and got home early. Knowing the wife would be in bed, I was being as quiet as I could. When I opened a kitchen drawer to put my keys in, the drawer squeaked and it woke Epi up. She came out of the bedroom and into the hallway with her hair on her neck up, teeth showing and growling. As soon as she saw it was me her whole body relaxed, and I swear she got a smile on her face as she ran down the hallway to greet me. I knew then I never had to worry about my wife being alone. On the other hand, if a stranger came to the front door and knocked, according to Epi that was just a new friend to play with. She was an amazing dog.

Pit bulls are genetically unstable because they’ve been inbred so much. They don’t attack because they’ve been abused. They are prone to bipolar disorders and will just randomly snap regardless of how they’ve been treated. They are one of the only breeds I know that give no warning before they attack. They are also the few dogs you can find that get loose or could be stray and start ruthlessly attacking people on the street. Bad genetics is certainly a thing. There is no way to raise a dog like that safely.

Dog-bite strength is a dubious concept. So far, as I am aware, no animal bite can be reliably measured for a multitude of reasons. Suffice it to say that Dobermanns can break both bones in an adult male forearm. That’s all you need to know regarding their bite. Also, it’s best not to mess with a Dobie that you don’t know and definitely don’t attempt to enter the property of a Doberman who is roaming free.

I could have her sit and anyone could approach her or me as long as I allowed it and basically do anything they wanted to her. but if I gave her an order not allow them near they had better stay away. She could be quite fierce. I could even walk her with the heel command with no leash through town and he would never stray from my side. Hands down the best dog I ever had but our GSD we now have is a close second. I have much respect for both of these breeds.

The most dangerous thing that's happened to me because of a doberman. My cousin had a very large doberman puppy. He was super friendly and did a lot of puppy like things which for a big dog could be seen as obnoxious. Lol. So my cousin had me walk with the doberman. I was excited because i loved this dog. What i didn't know was that my cousin trained the dog to run at a certain point during his walk every time. I was a tiny 10 year old. Not wanting to lose his precious dog, i held onto the leash as the dog dragged me across the pavement. My cousin yelled to let go after i told him i couldn't hold on any longer. I knew my mom was skeptical about a tiny 10 year old girl taking a giant puppy for a walk. I came back to the house all bloody and bruised and I was immediately defensive over the dog. My mom was in a frenzy as i happily walked into the bathroom and cleaned myself up.

We just hated working with those type dogs. I used to raise German Shepherds and have 2 now as well as an American Staffordshire Terrier, and a Klee Kai. I guess it depends how you look at it. I have had german shepherds and dobbies. The shepherds are woosies compared to a doberman with a burr on his butt. Mean spirited, no! Protective of his family and stuff, pretty much! Biters, not often, depends on dog. Barker and teeth showers, most definately. The trick is, never let your pups get mad. When you are playing rough with them, stop when they start getting upset and mad. If you let them get mad, they will always have a short fuse.

Doberman Planet : I'm 67 years old, now. When I was a kid, my next door neighbor had a huge Doberman named Satan. They had to keep Satan on a cable because he would go over their fence. I don't remember how tall the fence was, but Satan could go over it. I was just five feet, two inches tall. Well, Satan kept getting his cable caught on something; and I felt sorry for him. So one day, I went to see his owner. I wanted to meet the dog and become friends with him so that if no one was home, and Satan got caught, I could go in the pen and untangle him. At first his "mommy" thought I came over to complain because of his noise when he got caught. I assured her, no. I just wanted to become friends with this big dog. So, she took me into the pen to meet Satan. This may have been a bad idea. When Satan stood on his hind feet, he could put his front legs on my shoulder and look down on me. He stood six to six and a half feet tall on his hind feet. Anyway, Satan and I became buddies. Satan would often get himself tangled just so I would come over and get him loose and spend time with him. Well, the family moved off to North Carolina and I never saw Satan again. I graduated high school in 1970, and in the fall of 1972, enrolled in the University Of West Florida in Pensacola. I majored in history. On of my classmates lived in Warrington, which is outside Pensacola. You have to go through Warrington to get to the Navy base. Anyway, one Saturday in 1974 or '75, I went to see my classmate, Bob. His family lived on Bayou Grande. His next door neighbor was a retired Navy Commander who raised giant Dobermans. The neighbor was of Italian descent and stood either five feet four inches tall, or five-six. Well, this particular day, Bob and I were outside, and the neighbor was outside with one of his giant Dobermans. The dog stood up on his hind feet and laid his front legs on top of the neighbors head and looked down on him. At first I thought the dog was a horse. Dobermans can get huge.

@@umars7425 : You're right about most dobermans, most of them don't get that big. But some do, and I have had the privilege of seeing a few, and knowing one very large doberman that when standing on their hind feet, were a good six and a half feet tall. Satan, my neighbor's doberman, was huge. He was a big as a great Dane. And then read in my first comment about this retired Naval Commander in Warrington, Florida, just across Bayou Grande from N.A.S. Pensacola. Mr. Paradiso used to raise giant dobermans. I was out in the yard next door when one of his giant dobermans stood on his hind feet and laid his front legs on top of Mr. Paradiso's head; and looked down on him. At first I thought it was a horse. I do believe giant dobermans are rare because most don't get as big as I have described. But some do.

One of the best dogs I was ever associated with was a Dobie. A business partner of mine got one and I was like what the? So cue him going away and me looking after him. I have always had cats and my cat had never met a dog before and added to this my cat Monty was very territorial and feisty. So the Dobie comes to my home. My cat sits in the kitchen doorway and doesn't move, the Dobie then steps over him to get in the kitchen. By the end of the day I had them eating next to each other and curling up next to each other. It was like wow on both fronts. . Over the years I got to love and know the Dobie and he use to run up to me excited and literally grinning showing his teeth as if he was smiling, it was remarkable. Sadly he is no longer around, I will never forget him, beautiful loyal loving dog.

I have now a Pit Bull Terrier and he is a very sweet boy, unless you are a strange dog. A dog in the car next to us in a parking lot gets him wound up and barking. He likes people just fine and has no issues what so ever with the UPS guy or anyone else that comes to our home. He is very calm and relaxed around people. When I first got him as a puppy we always would go together inside pet stores and I would put him in the cart and around we would go being sure to visit everyone in the store. I did everything I could to have him meet as many people as possible and it worked out very well. When he was just over one year I got a second dog, an American Staffordshire Terrier, larger, big old head and heavy build and looked a lot like a little baby pig as a puppy, the same as my Boxer Buddy that was on the beefy side even when full grown. Pete was a wonderfully friendly boy to everyone even other dogs. Max though had a bad experience at 8 months old with a very bad kennel and killed the owners dog. The owners dog was some sort of herding dog, cow dog, that have a very domineering temperament. The owner put his dog and Max in the same kennel together instead of with my other dog an other boxer as he should have. My two dogs got along very well and why he separated them I just don’t know. He told me he thought they were friends, evidentially not so much. I never used that kennel again. I just know without looking your talking about Pit Bull Terriers as the number one bad dog. In my humble opinion it is stupid people like the kennel owner who are to blame for bad dogs. My Max is a good boy and would never bite a person, he just has this thing about strange dogs. I have never put him in a situation with strange dogs personally but the new kennel did with zero problems. Max got along with everyone I was told and never once showed any aggression toward any of the other dogs even though they had together play time. Max turned out to be a very well adjusted dog in the end. He is sleeping right next to me as I am writing this and I am so very glad I have him with me. Pete passed away from lymphoma this fall and I miss him so much, Pete was as perfect a companion as a dog can get, a big beefy love bug.

Cooper is a gorgeous boy!!! You forgot the Weimaraner and German Pinscher. The Greyhound was a U.S. or U.K. addition for refinement and thought to be the introduction to the "Z" factor. The German-bred Doberman Pinscher is more blocky than the American. And tends to be the choice for pure guard work, as they do tend to be "all business", the true "working dog". What you should've mentioned is, this is not a breed that you should leave out in the yard (a junkyard dog...NOT)and expect it to be "Guardian" of your property. Of course, they will do so, but they will not be happy and fulfilled. Dobies are great protectors, true, but they are total velcro dogs. They love their human families and because of this, they will lay their lives on the line to protect their "family/pack" My red male, "Steely Dan" is my 6th Dober-kid. I work for a Doberman Rescue in Illinois. They are a fantastic family member. I can't imagine life without a Dober-clown in my home, my life. OK there no where near the 5th strongest dog bite. Where did 305 come from as 228 to 245 is the general recorded. The CO, Kangal, Boerboel, EM, and Rottie all have higher. It has to do with the design of the jaw.

I found multiple sources that all agreed on the 305. I did see the 228 and 245 numbers in my research too but they were the one-offs. The number repeated most often by most sources was the 305 (and I weighted based on how reputable the sources were). Can you link to the records you're mentioning? Great channel!! My dobie is anxious. The vet said he most likely inherited this. But he is happy at home. No one can tell me why he won’t look us in the eyes. He kind of just side eyes us. He hates to snuggle. But he loves to be pet and scratched. He’s only a year an 1/2. He is wonderful around my children. I just had to make a comment because of the eye contact since you addressed it. I am now subscribed and will watch all of your content. Thank you!!

he will not look you in the eyes cuz doesn't want a conflict they feel you are challenging them or might be punished ..most dogs do not like eye contact unless they trust you 100% try limited eye contact and have a happy tone in your voice and he will feel more comfortable .. but remember none of us like to be stared at for long periods of time .. they need their space ... with a lot of eye contact they feel invaded .. use treats to reward eye contact and you will get good results

@@mariec.1937 keep me posted God bless you and your family in these trying days we live in ... we must be warriors for God ... we should never expect him to everything and sit here and do nothing .. it's the opposite we should do everything we can and once we have exhausted our efforts God will step in and finish the job for us...

@Mr. S. God bless you and yours, also. Thank you for the encouragement!! Yes, I agree with you completely! The Lord gave us His Word (Bible) for knowledge. I know He expects us to fight for what is right and good and to open up the eyes of the blind as much as we can. Thank you so much! I was very happy to receive your msg. Again, God bless you. Also, I am on twitter trying to fight the good fight!

@@mariec.1937 awesome thank you for your kind words it nice to know there is liked minded people out there... Jesus had the best warriors around him they were excellent fighters and swordsmen... when we die God will ask us what did do on earth to make it a better place ? that is why we must push back ... this is a test to see who will do something to glorify God or will we just sit around and wait for God to do something ... i know we are on the same page .. but most people want God to do everything for them... my question is when the good times were happening no one had time for God... now everyone calls upon his name knows his word and acts like they have been this way all their life which is not the case ... watch once everything calms down they will revert back to their selfish ways and leave him out of their lives once again until another crisis hits our land ... Sub normal Lukewarm Christians ... all we can do is take care of our own and keep God in the fore front of our lives ... whatever he has called us to do we do it ... anyway keep posted with your dog i hope things will continue to get better in your life .. thanks for sending blessings keep in touch

My father and I were sitting on a bench just like the one behind you at my neighbor's house one day. My neighbor had about 4 dobermans. Brutus (a red nose) was walking by and stopped and looked at us with that look they have. He just stared and started creeping at us. He sped up to a full speed and lunged right between my dad's legs. I think my dad shit his self and had a heart attack at the same time. Brutus was quick. His head came back up with the juicy mouse that was moving along the wall under the bench. 😆

I guess I'm a bit strange I was attracted to the dog because of his aggressive qualities I love with all my heart but you are right is the way you raise them that makes them vicious or makes them a family companion Thank you for putting in the work the Doberman Need someone like you

Had my doberman for 3 weeks now. And I admit that I failed to crate train my puppy. And now I am with him 24/7. I take him to the office everyday! The good thing is, because I am with him 24/7. I know his behaviour very well and he did not have a single accident in the office.

I’m glad I found this channel. I’m on dobie number five. They were all family dogs. None of my dobies had any problem coexisting with children and even cats. Dobermans are the only dogs for me.

Dobermans are the greatest! We have had 18 Dobermans and they loved playing with our kids! When we lived in town the students teased them. We kept them in the house and we let them in the yard when we were with them. Our dog Moose put a college student up a tree once. The student was on drugs. I told him not to come in our yard but he did and he teased our dog. The student was old enough to know better! After the student was up the tree Moose tinkled on the tree! What a great dog!

Very good information. As a 62 year old never having a dog before now wants one for: protection, companionship, and help me get out of the house on walks. I love what I see in Dobermans, but not sure if I could handle one.

I was bit when I was a young kid by a poorly trained and ill-mannered Doberman that had gotten loose and was roaming the neighborhood. It was a serious enough bite that it required an ER visit. I've been afraid of them ever since and vowed to never even consider one. (I happen to love German Shepherds though, again, back to childhood and a great experience.) But watching this guy's videos and seeing his Dobermans has me reconsidering my stance. It appears that a well-trained and well-loved Doberman is a great dog.
