Sam found herself bouncing around to different families. She used substances and abused alcohol to cope with her depression. Everything changed once she made a change.
Researchers believe that about half of people with addictions will experience a mental illness at some point in their lives. Similarly, half of people with mental health disorders will experience an addiction. Co-occurring disorders is when one has an addiction concurrently with a mental health disorder. Sam’s story shows how someone can suffer with multiple disorders, and still find lifelong recovery.

Addiction is a gradual process. It doesn't start in a day. My advice to everyone is to avoid too much of thinking that leads to unnecessary depression.

Depression is one of the major reasons why people are addicted to substance abuse. It should be properly managed before it will lead to addiction.

This is an amazing testimony if I'll use that term. Your story had shown that not only addiction but even a background of physical and mental abuse can be healed just by desiring to get help and looking for it in the right places.

This is really sad. Depressed people are one of the most vulnerable to addiction. Once a person felt that no one is willing to help them, they would eventually turn into drugs. Thus making them addicts and drug dependant.

@@Demigod8ether same. Was amazing for a while..... until I figured yeah we're quarantined but I can leave my house and live similarly. Media made it worse, which is why I decided to kick my fentanyl addiction and stay clean. Addicted for 5 years, today makes a week and a half clean and I don't think I'm ever going back, just one of those people who's body and mind won't allow me to continue
@jules8910
@jules8910 3 года назад
@@SAMEntalhealth Way to go with the attitude! Keep it up. God did not create you and want you to suffer. I am not a "religious" fanatic, bc actually religion is an enemy of what Christ actually is. I am presently suffering from watching a loved one going down as a heroine addict. I'm helpless in "fixing", but I know God hasn't given up. Many chances of help come along and they are from Him, but how do you get people to grab onto that arm of help? I'm finding hope in reading other's victories. I am proud of you.

Depression can lead to use of drugs and eventually drug addiction. This is because I believe being depressed makes one dependent on something that makes them feel good and over using this drugs causes addiction.
