9:44 .. I’ve seen this episode a few times.. it’s a good one.. but seeing Stewart and Mick in the helicopter, and watching them absolutely giddy with excitement is so satisfying 😁😁 It’s a moment when you can See how much Mick absolutely respects Stewart’s skills.. and they’re two peas in a few ways 😂 Absolutely one of the best shows ever assembled.. we’ve been blessed..
Carenza - Warrior queen of the Britons ! John Gater - Hero of the Resistance ! Gaius de la Bedoyerius - late second century Roman historian. Saint Mick - the anchorite. Phillipus I of Harding - King of Wessex. Victor Ambrus : time travelling Dutch old master. Helen - the Neo-Neolithic Venus of Anglia, Stewart Ainsworth - druidic landscape hugger. Suzannah Lipscombe - the latter day Lady Godiva, Paul Blinkhorn - Ceramicus maximus. Matt & Raksha - The Prince Albert and Queen Victoria of Time Team. etc.
Regarding the sled threasher. I've seen near twins to this. An antique wooden door shop in Petaluma, California had 4 of these for sale. The owner claimed they were 500 years old and came from northern Italy. The main and only difference that I could see is these antique sleds have flint cutters that are much smaller and in a pattern that vastly increase the effectiveness.
The guy that built it is Dr Peter Reynolds who is seen now and again on these shows, and the amount of knowledge on display on a particular item is mind blowing. In that Peter is expert on ancient life in general and farming tools in particular, in how they are built and used.
@@andyhastings5950 I am referring to the one that was reconstructed on Time Team by Dr Peter Reynolds, pardon me if i am not talking about the same thing that you are.
I suspect an analogy would be found in the way the British extended their empire into India. The lack of transference of technology from the Romans demonstrates a power relationship where the knowledge of the advanced building techniques was kept to the invaders and their specialist engineers. The elite British celts would have kept their status and been able to afford to buy Roman technology and live in a Romano-British lifestyle. While the rest of the lower class Britons would continue to live as they did before the invasion of the Romans. This was replicated in British control of India. The aristocratic class of India would continue to use their power and influence to maintain the class structures over the mass of working Indians who saw little improvement in their lives during the British Rajah.
That's still happening in India today without Britain. Last year I found a 2 year old little girl playing between the ocean and highway. No adults to be seen. This was in Northern Kerala too. Was taking pictures of the ocean in the back of a car. Ilooked back at one of the pictures when I saw her. She was wearing a dress and trash bag. My husband is from Trivandrum and he didn't seem shocked to see a baby all alone there. He comes from money and never wanted for anything in his life. He said he didn't want to get involved. I made the driver turn around. At first she was scared and wouldn't come to me. I offered her my juice and she slowly walked to me. After 10 minutes we were able to get her and take her to a police station. They feed her and gave her dry clothes. We lost 30 minutes of our time but saved her life. She had been missing 2 days. She followed her older brother to school and got lost from there. Still to this day i can't believe my husband argued with me about saving a baby.
AS SHE SAID THAT KIND OF SITUATION HAPPENED EVERYDAY IN INDIA EVEN TODAY, THE RICH ARE BECOMING RICHER AND TE POOR POORER. YOU CAN JUST SEE IN BOMBAY, THEY HAVE A MULTI BILLIONS APARTMENTS BUILDINGS OWNED BY BILLIONAIRE, PALACES WITH MARVELOUS ARCHITECTURE, TEMPLES AS BIG AS A STADIUM MADE WITH GOLD AND SILVER AND PRECIOUS STINES BUT A FEW KILOMETERS AWAY A SLUMP WHERE PEOPLE LIVE IN A MUD HUT, EAT FROM THE TRASH, NO TOILET AND BATHING IN DIRTY DRAIN WATER. THE BIGGEST DEMOCRACY IN THE WORLD WHERE THE DEMOCRACY ONLY APPLIES TO THE RICH AND ELITE.@@peggyjones3282
I've learned a tremendous amount from these guys. Just a cultural question, why do you put an "r" at the end of words? For example "villar" instead of "villa"? Just curious!
The r is put on a word ending in a vowel, to give the word an end to distinguish it from the next word. President JohnF Kennedy spoke very similarly, with his Bostonian accent.
idk, I find him being confident in what he knows, which in terms of the Romans, is a lot. Yes, sometimes He probably knows more than what he is letting on about. I dont know if that is just how he is or if that is part of the show.
If Guy sets himself as a 'Roman Expert', of course he is going to know a 'Lot' about the Roman world as you say, but i doubt that he will know everything about everything and the term 'Know-All' comes to mind.....@@LostDisciple24
Tony's comment at the end, of Britons seeing the Roman ships arriving, heralding the invasion: The Romans knew that Briton was there: they must have sent scouts - I wonder how that worked...
BOTH OF THE PARTIES KNOWN EACH OTHERS, THE ROMAN ALREADY KNOWS SOME OF THE TRIBES AND THEIR LOCAL CHIEF AND THE LOCAL TRIBES HAS ALSO BEEN TRADING WITH ROMAN GAUL FOR A LONG TIME. THE ANCIENT BRITON WERE NOT ISOLATED, SOME TRIBES IN BRITAIN HAVE A COUSIN TRIBES IN GAUL (FRANCE). THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TRAVELING BACK AND FORTH.
Joseph of Arithima, was a Jew who knew Jesus. He had a fleet of ships and owned tin mines in Britton . When he was kicked out of the Sanhedran for believing that Jesus was the Messiah, he took his family and left for Britton. He was one of the first to bring Christianity to Britton. They say that Paul was found not guilty in Rome because his accusers never showed for the trail. It is said that he continued his travels on to Spain asnd Britton. The faith goes way back in the islles.
If they only have 3 bloody days, why do they waste so much of it starting at 11am instead of sunrise, and quit way before sunset? Camp at the site, deliver food and portable loos, maximize the available time!
They use it a ton in the later episodes and in the new episodes out now. I didn't understand your statement like if the technology had existed. But as soon as it does exist oh they use it and it is fantastic. It makes it so much easier. Well in a way they did use drone technology when they're in the helicopter. It's kind of drone-ish, right?
This episode is from 2002. Drone technology was not what it is now. The earliest episode I can remember them using it was from 2013 (Woolsey's Lost Palace, aka The Palace Beneath the Playground). It was a polystyrene winged device (shaped like a stealth plane) with a digital camera to take pictures (not video, and the quality looked about 480p). You had to violently shake the drone to turn the propeller on, and it flew on a pre-programmed path. That's a long way from the gorgeous 4k volcano footage that's come out of Iceland in the last year or so.
Phil and Tony are believed to belong to an old, even ancient, archeological cult, wherein the most senior members drink a drop of blood taken from their High Priestess, Carenza, on every full moon. Her powers grant them nigh immortality, but she needs to replenish herself by feeding on geo-phys noobs whenever they make errors. The fear they feel upon making the error charges their blood and High Priestess Carenza swoops in to make her kill. Or these are just old shows....not sure.
They're outdoors more then most people, doing medium hard work for hours. Sure, Tony doesn't get his hands too dirty, but he runs almost anywhere he goes, From one trench to another. And he is still doing some shows, with the new Time Team...
I could never be an archeologist, my father told me to study hard and get a good education so I wouldn't have to dig ditches to make a living. These people went to college and what are they doing for a living? Digging ditches! But I think I would have made a good archeologist anyway as I was always interested in history and loved poking around old buildings and looking for arrowheads.
Why don't they give the original air date? It seems they changed the title, as it doesn't appear on the list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Time_Team_episodes If I knew the location I could find it on the list.
Not certain, but my guess is a 1948 Buick Super by the shape of the hole for the missing grill, shape of the hood, and the headlights. It's also missing all chrome, the bumper, but definitely fits that year and model.
Because the people involved did these digs in addition to and outside their normal jobs. If I recall correctly most of these digs were done on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays - so they could all be back at their jobs in time for Monday. That’s my understanding.
Building churches all over Rome for the glory of Jesus Christ they were all monks from Asia, the papacy was organizing all events in England everyone was present to discuss politics ☝️
❤All happened in the period of Byzantium year after a great bloody battle between England and France for there monks the papacy of the Catholic Church was the domain sent to Byzantium to build.
