Hello, as an Argentine I have to clarify some things: 1-Ours was not or is arrogance, and if it were for something it is ... we have 15 America cups, 2 world cups, etc (and only at the national team level, not to mention at the club level) that without counting the 6 U-20 world cups. 2-Chile is not a rival of Argentina (although the Chileans believe it ahahaha, just look at the history) as if they are Uruguay or Brazil Nice video, greetings
@@cbants1371 he is exactly right, Messi is the greatest goal scorer of all time and the greatest assist provider of all time, most key passer, consistent free taker.
There's not many audience due to covid. I may say the result might be different if the stadium was packed with home fans... The pressure will be in another level for Argentina
@@shiswamy7265 😐 ... 😂, Look they might win the new UEFA confederations league, but they blew their only chance of a trophy by sacking Jose Mourinho 😂 imo I hope they don't sell Kane though if they do relegation becomes a possibility.
How did Argentina win Copa America? A rock solid defensive line, a very dynamic midfield with high IQ players like De Paul, Paredes and most importantly a non injured Di Maria. This Argentinian team has the spine that Argentina lacked for decades now and with Messi, Di Maria & Martinez trident attack they have become a force to be reckoned with. This Argentina is the Latin equivalent of young hungry France but without the arrogance or ego of the French side
Stupid comment. That dancing colombian deliberately injured Messi and Martinez in a previous game. Martinez hit him with hate and righteous indignation. It has to do with that colombian trying to get personal with Agrentina. Now colombian pretends to be a fool in an interviews. We will see where his stupidity takes him next.
Great video, I'd like to add that they weren't just playing against their rivals, but also against the sports media here in Argentina, which is and has been the biggest load of bullshit and uncalled criticism towards the players and coaches, and specially towards Messi, speculating about his demeanor on the pitch, questioning why he had won with Barça but not with Argentina. When the real question was, why Argentina wasn't able to win having Messi? Encouraging the population to hate on him, so that's why you saw him collapse as soon as the whistle was blown, and all his teammates were running towards him. To picture this up, imagine that just before the final, some of the big name "journalist" were saying they'd rather want Argentina to loose in order to get rid of Scaloni the head coach. That's why sometimes you can hear the players chanting against the journalism after a win.
They are the same ones that put the comparison between Messi and Maradona, they only generate division and partiality towards one or the other. This is how the staunch Maradonians are generated. That's where the antimessi comes from. Lta pasman
Well as a Brazillian, this happens here too... Basically before every match, always disagreeing with the coach or the players summoned to the matches, this surely intesifies after a lost in the WC, but it's the same journalist bullshit as you mentioned
We all came into the tournament a little banged up with our confidences. Except for Brazil. Normally if the Copa is played in Brazil, the host surely wins it. But this Argentina team, not the most talented, was by far the strongest mentally throughout and they deserved the cup in the end. I'm happy for Messi, while also lamenting our own very poor performance. 🤙🏾🙏
Molina and Pezzela played because Montiel and Cuti Romero were carrying injuries, in fact, Romero had complications on his knee and just hours before the final he started to be able to jog, so he essentially had to convince Scaloni that he wasn't going to break mid-match, because he wasn't about to lose the chance to play. Armani on the other hand, had been the first choice goalie for a while, but Martínez stepped in the Qualifiers prior to copa america because of Franco's complications with COVID, so the game Armani started against Bolivia was more of a "I gotchu fam" kind of thing, to recognize the player even if Martínez had largely taken his spot as #1. Scaloni made quite a few changes but they were mostly sensible, like playing Palacios, Correa and Papu Gomez against Bolivia to save up energy, giving Acuña the spot against Brazil because, as mentioned, Lo Celso drops deep and plays centrally, so Acuña can overlap through the left with ease, and so on. A very very stark difference from Sampaoli's time, crazy considering Scaloni says he learnt a lot under Sampa.
@@FootballIconic Thanks, it's just stuff I picked up that I thought would be interesting to the folks that aren't around the people that report these things in Argentina.
i get the meme and all, but the squad that won last week has huge respect for him and everyone involved in those finals. honestly i feel really bad about the guy
13:40 Achievements: Best Player of the Tournament Top Scorer Top Assister Copa America Trophy Also, Most MOTM awards….winning 4 out of 7 Possibly the best individual performance by a Player in an International Tournament…along with Pelé in 1970, Maradona in 1986 and Garrincha in 1962..
Yes it's crazy how he did this all at 34 years of age. Imo it doesn't get enough credit. Messi had other great international tournaments but bc he didn't win the tournament he never got credit. His international career is criminally underatted. Let's hope he can win the big one later this year
Man... If The GOAT himself AND argentina could replicate this gorm into the world cup and messi gets to the final. He will end this debate for ever as the greatest player of all time.
I don't think there is a debate. It just the Messi haters stirring up controversy. The truth is you have to be a very sour cynic to hate someone like Messi. Mostly jealousy.
@@evilestmanlp then whats the 4th one. messi won 2014 wc golden ball, 2015(rejected it) and 2021 copa golden balls, and lost to alexis sanchez in 2016.
As an Argentine, I can tell you the key is Scaloni, he managed to give the national team back it's mystique and unity. Riquelme said in an interview "this squad is the first in a long time that plays as a team and not just as a national squad"
7 major tournament finals .....7 finals , enough to judge how great their team was , just their final touch wasn't enough , a bit of bad luck , a bit of players errors at the wrong moment but i've never doubted this years team they were the best in form , every segment of their team from defense to goalkeeping , mid field and their attacks all went to full aggressive mode , they were focused committed and had winning mindset , and on top of that they had leo messi , fought tooth and nail to get argentina this victory
I started to notice something special was happening in this Argentina team when they played against Bolivia for WC qualifying in 2020. It was a hard away match and Argentina won 1-2. They played with their heart and they looked united than ever.
Arrogance when you win, tears when you lose, that's the basis of south american football. It comes from how passionate we are over here in general, but mostly with football. Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay have been by far the most successful national teams in South America being the only ones to win the world cup, all at least twice, and having won the copa america the most times. No one shies away from a little condescending attitude here when it comes to football, like Colombian players dancing after a goal, Brazil's president saying they'll win 5-0 ahead of the final. It's part of football's folklore and it's what keeps it alive imo
Two major reasons they won: • The fact that Messi wasn't a Barcelona player, then he won an International Trophy. • Gonzalo Higuain wasn't playing in the Argentina squad. 👍
I really don't understand how everyone was judging Argentina for not winning ''anything'' (Because Argentina won Olympic gold in 2008 with Messi, Agüero, Di Maria) while you have countries with a world cup that have won absolutely nothing for over 50 years, the pressure for Argentina was unreal, while like i said, you have countries that have been chilling with a 50 years mark without trophies and no one seems to care enough to judge them.
That's the pressure to have a genius player like Lionel Messi be in your national team. Luckily he already won everything and has nothing else to prove 🐐 🇦🇷 🌟
Only if Aguero was the 1st choice striker in the finals Messi has been, he would have won everything. And Di Maria, he is the unsung hero of the Argentine team. Aguero, Di Maria and Messi has been playing together and won the U-20 World Cup, The Olympics. Messi did everything when he was needed but players like Higuian, Palacios had that opportunity to perform and win for Messi and Argentina, and they failed. Messi is not to blame, he is a true captain and leader who does his job i the pitch. People who criticize Messi doesn't, I think knows how much he wants to win for Argentina. Messi is the GOAT of the GOAT for me.
The only time I saw Argentina with good mangers were the teams under sabella ( rip) and lionel scaloni in the era of messi , aguero , di maria , mascherano and sergio Romero. Under these two the team performed massively and actually utilized its talents fully.
Bhuto, you are right on spot. We had good coaches/managers untill 2006. Then it was caos (everything is decided by a corrupted AFA (Argentinian Football League), and with a complete lack of preparation and planning. So best managers did not want the job or were not appointed.
Corrupted politicians took over power, in the name of "progressive agenda" which in reality is pure populism. And they got their dirty hands on football as well. That is the situation in our country.
Two things that should be considered here. 7 finals for a team is a major achievement, which is often not taken into account. In itself reaching the finals for a nations team is already a victory, but in these cases it is not counted as such. To belittle a gold medal is an insult to sport in general. It does have special rules regarding the players but it is still an Olympic gold medal.
I understand where you are coming from, but everything has to be put into context. What you say is true for most countries. But Argentina, like Germany, Brazil etc is an elite country. To not win is a dissapointment- does not matter if they simply reached the final. And as for the Olympics, that must also be put into context. I did state that my intention was not to belittle the trophy. But the level of competition in a World Cup, Euros or Copa America is many levels above what you'll find in the Olympics. While this is a fantastic achievement, put into context, several Argentines remained dissatisfied.
@@FootballIconic Fair enough, but still 7 finals shouldn't be seen as a "failure" just because all were lost but rather an achievement by playing them. And even more so if you take into account the multiple socio-economic differences of the countries you are comparing.
Lionel Scaloni's team has several players from the 2006 Pekerman's team. Though we didn't reach the semifinals Argentina did a great World Cup and measured toe to toe with Germany itself (reminder, they were the locals)
Tactical aside, the Argentine players showed more hunger than determination than the other teams including Brazil. Even when Neymar get pass 2-3 players there will be another 2 players stopping him. This was what Chile did in 2015 & 2016 finals and Argentina at the time relying too much on Messi that they didnt have plan B. Even when Messi was surrounded by 4 players, they still passed to him all the time.
Short time ago I sat down and watched hours and hours and hours with Messi playing. Driblings, passes, goals, close fighting and so on. Before watching I believed Messi was equal to the new Ronaldo. After watching? To be honest Messi is miles ahead. Ronaldo is a great player. A better version of Gerd Muller but he is not even close to Messi.
That's what I keep telling people. Messi haters need to stop listening to what people say about him and watch him play instead. I reckon most of his haters only watch English league, they only see him when he plays against English clubs in champions league. U can't appreciate a champion when you don't witness his struggle
Good catch Klaus ... most of the time I do not understand why people compare Messi to Ronaldo. There is not comparison. Messi should be compared to Maradona, Pele, DI Stefano or Johan Cruyff. CR7 is not even closed to those players. I am argentine but I stick to the common sense in order to be objective and not subjective and it is easy to see the huge difference.
Doesnt really count when there was no audience and most brazilian people was against the cup being here. Basically it was the same as a neutral ground, the discontent was big and not many people cared that we lost
Yea the feels of me watching Messi win his desired trophy after all the frustration he had to endure with our National team was incredible, I even had to drink 2 beers to survive the nerves of the match and when it ended I couldnt stop myself from crying like a litle kid I wanted Messi to win more than Argentina winning . The fans in Argentina would take it so hard on him and hate him compare him with Maradona when he has already proven he's on another level. In the end Justice was made and he got a major Trophy for Argentina. It took a lot of pain and suffering but he earned it. Football is a little bit more Fair now that he won
Respect to those that came to this channel before me. But it's gonna blow up for sure, awesome work man. I cried when Argentina won as I was watching their broadcast and it got so emotional. Messi has been my favorite for years, the lost finals have always left me feeling so sad, and I'm not even an Argentine.
Remember me. I've been following u since your 5ks. I love the way you mix the jokes and facts. This channel certainly deserves to be the GOAT of football channels someday.
Man, i love the way you talk and simply things, and especially make it so clear that its just your opinion, and youre allowed to share your opinion, as well as the others with respect. Big big up! This video was well made, and yeah i agree, messi for me as well is the GOAT. 🐐
Hey how about a video on Italy's rise too? From not making it to World Cup 2018 to winning the Euro 2020 and it makes me sad that Diego Maradona isn't alive to see this. Also the top 5 of all time are Pele, Maradona, Messi, CR7 and Cruyff .
Really nice video!!, just to add to the first point about the arrogance of the argentinian team, it is at least curious that they managed to win when they were seen as the underdogs (there were a lot of doubts about Scaloni as a manager before and during the Copa America, and the brazilian team was seen as invincible, even with Fenandinho posting in his instagram: "WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOME RIVALRY IN SOUTH AMERICA"), even here in Chile, the general sentiment was to support Argentina to win... With that said, cool vid!, if possible, I would love to see something like this for the Chilean team from 2015-2016... Thank you!, i subscribed :)
Muy buenooo! My due respects, first time I hear such an objective and well-balanced analysis of Argentina's football and its whole background. No one would say Messi is no longer Barça player! Saludos amigo.
I never liked football that much. I never watched any leagues, cups or anything besides when the national team played. And even then, I never felt anything special during those matches. But this Copa America, it was the first time I truly enjoyed watching football, and seeing my country's national team win this cup, Seeing Messi crying tears of joy this time, really moved me, and I really cried too when the match finished. I wen't outside with my girlfriend to celebrate, we got on my car and drove around, screaming and honking, and seeing the happyness and joy all around us, everybody celebrating. It was a truly beautiful moment.
Well... I'm late to this but something to give props to Escaloni is that he took out the pressure from this Argentina side by mentioning before Copa america 2019 that they are not the favorites to win the tournament, at that tournament if they happen to win Brazil in the semis then they could've got another copa
I loved your cool style of talking. Being a big fan of Messi and Argentina, I must say you were right in this video. Thanks for putting this much efforts in this clip. I heard about the "Argentinian Arrogance" but didnt know about the answer (by that Colombian Journalist in 1993)....You nailed it here. Good job
About the "Argentinian Arrogance"... I wouldn´t call it arrogance, argentinian players have a heightened state of self confidence but I understand why it can be perceived as arrogance in other countries. It´s a matter of believing in yourself always, and think you are the best player in the field... even if you are really the underdog. On the other side, that 5-0 was also a curse for Colombia, they had a fantastic team, some say it was Colombia´s golden generation. They had great matches against strong southamerican and european teams, and they started to think that they could win it all, it wasn´t rare to hear colombian journalists say the they would win the world cup, even Pele said it... Needless to say, it ended up in disaster, they couldn´t get past their group in 1994, and again in 1998. And after that golden generation dried up, they couldn´t qualify to a world cup for 16 years...
Argentina did not have to wait soooo long for a medal. I still recall how Redondo got dropped from the 1998wc squad because he had long hair Then in the 2006wc Pekerman ignored Messi and somehow stuck with Tevez Then Higuain came in and the coaches stuck with him even though he was average at best. The upcoming worldcup will be awsome... there are sooo many good teams both in Europe and South America.
The beauty of this vídeo is absolutly amazing!!! Congrats man! I'm argentinian football lover, the last words about Messi... That was incredible breathtaking! Viva Argentina y Perón carajo!!
In Brazil if we win the Copa America, it's business as usual. When Argentina wins it, they riot, lol Well deserved, the Seleção isn't what it used to be, Neymar is a crybaby and Messi is the best player in the world. Congratulations hermanos.
I think it would be a disservice to Messi's legacy if Argentina never won a cup with him. Many say Messi owes Argentina a trophy, but to me its the opposite. Messi has through the years been Argentina's best player in tournaments, through corruption and scandal across the FA board. In many ways, Argentina has failed Messi not the other way. And as someone who followed his career, I never thought the lack of international trophies harms Messi's legacy in any way. He has played the best version of football in the toughest club competitions, and international trophies is just an accessory in today's football. Mbappe is no way a better player than Messi just because he's won the WC. But it will always be a point of argument for those who will always consider Messi to be less. Him winning this trophy was important to the game as it allows people to just recognize the talent and see it for what it was. He was the greatest player to play even before the Copa America trophy, and he definitely is now.
As an Indian Messi and Argentina football fan for so long I was so relieved and happy that they finally won a trophy and Messi git to lift it for them too 😍...... I'm sure Argentina has many more fans outside Argentina all around the world and most of them may have become a fan because of that little boy who suffered from growth hormone deficiency in his pre-teen years and finally grew up to the greatest footballer of all time ❤️
I watched the final at home in the dark when everyone went to sleep, when Mario Gotze was subbed on and scored I kept telling myself we shouldn't lose hope, and when that final whistle blew I blurted out and went to my mom's room and didn't turn on the lights, I remember just crying on top of her blanket, she asked me why I was crying and I said in my native langauge 'u Messi udliwe Ma': meaning Messi just lost Mom. I was broken in every way, and to see Messi having to take the best player trophy at the trophy presentation blew my heart. Germany really didn't deserve to win that World Cup and not because I'm saying they were not fabulous but to be fair every football fan in that game besides Germans wanted Messi to win it during his remarkable 'prime' and cement the conversation of him being the GOAT
I'd argue to just seem them both as the goat in respect to what they do. They're both insanely skilled players and I feel that we should respect both of them for different reason. I'm very grateful to have grown up seeing both of them play, and I'm sure future generations will be jealous watching the footage of them.
Champion: Argentina 🇦🇷 Most Goals: Lionel Messi 🇦🇷 Most Assists: Lionel Messi 🇦🇷 Player of the Tournament: Lionel Messi 🇦🇷 Goalkeeper of the Tournament: Emiliano Martinez 🇦🇷
Messi is the person who most deserved an international trophy in the world, football owed him years ago and before they only had one excuse, the trophy with Argentina he already got it. The goat of football today, before and after ... without a doubt and for me the best in history.
Gotta say Argentina did win the king fahd cup 1992 vs saudi arabia (the first ever confederations cup) and the Artemio Franchi cup (match between champion of europe vs champion of south america) vs Denmark 1993, both official tournaments by FIFA. This lead to the "arrogance" since between 1986 and 1993 Argentina played 6 final matches, winning 5 of them. Denmark got his revenge at the confederations cup final 1995, that was another blow to the team.
This team has something that no other Argentina NT had since 1993, commitment. They all played hard, they all ran all game all games, they all helped each other AND they all helped Messi, so it didn't seemed that they just gave the ball to him and expect he does all the work, as we've seen in the recent past where it was Lio running against 5 defenders with his teammates always behind him 'cause either they didn't understand him or they couldn't keep up with him, the complete opossite that we see at Barça. Cheers from Argentina.
They can win it if messi gets his 2019 form back and has a 50+ goal season also they need to use messi in the attack and play with 3 forwards instead of using him as a distraction.
@@IsmailKhan-dp9vt i dont think his form decreased compared to then, perhaps a little but his numbers are low because of the horrendous team we had compared to Valverde's team. That and Messi at the start of the season was having a horrible relationship with barcelona so that must have made quite an impact with his form for the first few months of the season. He started regaining his form when the young prospective players like Ansu Fati and Pedri stepped up, he probably saw a light of a bright future with this team and he started smiling again. After then you can see his form by looking the stats at the start of 2021, his goalscoring record is tied with Lewandowski at about 40 something with around 14 assists, that is ridiculous. He could end up with 70 goals by the end of this year, plus he just won the copa which eased him so much we might see his best form out of the recent years.
@@gabrielnugrahaandika4807 the thing is messi used to dribble players but he hasn't been able to do it that much after the Liverpool loss mabye he lost hope or his confidence was shattered.
@@IsmailKhan-dp9vt he cant do that anymore, its not a confidence thing he is getting older. As sad as it is we wont see those mazing runs anymore. But he doesnt need to do that, his effectiveness and footballing iq alone will still get him the top scorer and playmaker. The other thing that makes him the best is that while his physics is waning, his other attributes steps up, if he cant be the best goalscorer, he'll become the best playmaker. He would still be the best in 2-3 years and he will still be world class until he's 40. The only thing that could stop him is probably a serious injury or something.
Beating Brazil in their homes holy ground in a Major Tournament... that was some job by Argentina. It might not erase the pain of the past but I bet there are still Argentinians hungover from that game who feel like its all been worth it in the end.
@@mrmeeseeks2534 Truth be told, most Argentines love the ''Hand of God'' goal more than the other one. They see it as a bit of revenge for Las Malvinas ( The Falklands War)
