The Canucks trailed 4-2 entering the third period and in a five-minute span scored three times to take the lead! TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss how the Canucks were able to pull off the impressive third period comeback and if Vancouver should shift more of their focus to Zach Hyman after another multi-goal game.

Basically the canucks did exactly what they did to the Oilers in the regular season. The difference was a terrible first period and some soft goals by Silovs. After that the canucks took control and controlled for the rest of the game just like they did all year long against the Oil. The canucks simply match up really well against this team and can "out discipline" them when it comes to maintaining structure. If the canucks can clean up their start and be more effective early, and Silovs can calm himself (if he's the starter) and play the way he did against the Preds (no soft goals), the canucks will have an excellent chance to control this whole series. If the canucks win this series, anyone who is "surprised" by that, wasn't paying attention. The canucks have been doing this ALL year long. They rarely go more than a game or two without getting back to their system and structure. I would consider this game 1 as a bad game for their structure and I think they'll be even more disciplined for game 2. Seeing game 1 as a "mistake".

@doublestrokeroll 9 дней назад
@@Dylligraphy yeah they did more so in the 2nd half of the season when they sort of lost a little focus with their systems play but by the end of the year they had done a pretty good job correcting that. That last regular season game against the Oil was an excellent display of them getting back to the way they were in the first half of the season. I feel like they still haven't really gotten their game completely back to firing on all cylinders. The structure is mostly back and the offense is coming but still feels a little haphazard. They can't rely on comebacks like that. Eventually those kinds of starts will bite them.

Smothering defense (Oilers had tons of zone time, only TWO shots in the third), letting the Oilers less physical defense make coverage errors (Miller's tip in COULD have been defended and Zadorov COULD have not had three Oilers screening Skinner), and potentially losing Draisatl for a chunk of this series. Silovs is young and inexperienced. Naturally, he was going to struggle at times with Edmonton's offense. But that's rarely the straw camel the Oilers suffer. It's their inconsistent defense and mediocre physicality that breaks them. The Oilers got off to a hot start, but the comeback started in the second. Building momentum is especially critical in a sport like hockey. To Edmonton's credit, unlike Boston, the Oilers had a chance to win tonight.

@@danielpatterson5189 Yup. Oilers are not a good defensive team or have good goaltending. It's their scary offense and special teams that carries them. The Nucks weren't really a weak offensive team either as they led the league in scoring in the first 2/3 of the season, but transitioned to a more defensive minded team. EP struggling offensively after the all-star break is also what made Nucks offense weaker. And yes, the biggest problem in the playoffs with the Nucks offense in round 1 was Nashville. The Preds block everything and Saros is quite good as well. Vancouver won because the refs absolutely gifted them the non call on the gloved puck out of their defensive zone just before they scored their last 2 goals. They should have been trying to kill off that penalty instead. Why's no one talking about it?

Yea man that explains all 4 goals when it was 4-1 oilers genius. It's a Conspiracy against your personal happiness, you're hard done by. In other news, wake the fuck up champ.

And also there were non calls on both sides. Stop making excuses on a thrown 3 goal lead. Skinner just played like shit. Not saying vancouver played great either.

Because blaming the refs when your team don't win is not exactly a glowing trait.

Don't worry we'll be happy to beat them again next game. Make sure you have your excuse ready. 5-0 or I suppose that one doesn't count either.

Canucks didn't. Do anything. Oilers basically handed the game to the Canucks....
