My adoptive father, a gay man born in 1943, felt very afraid of straight men's violence, & he believed firmly that straight men are notoriously violent & solve their problems that way.

As a gay man, that's my sense, too. There often seems to be an underlying sense of wariness and competition among straight men, at least many are socialised that way.

For instance, why are our 'modern' brains smaller than Neanderthal man? One could argue that our 'modern' brains are more efficient. Why would that be? Possibly because of what I call 'shared memory'. Like a historical-type memory.
@sealyoness
@sealyoness 2 года назад
@@Old_Hippie Yeah. This may not be quite what you mean, but I joked about keeping part of my memory in my late husband's head. It's also about conferring memory to relatives and friends - As a kid, lots of times the older folks would discuss ways people handled situations, what they did specifically, etc. Even if the kid isn't paying too much attention, the learned behavior as well as the shared information, infuses itself into the kid's life. We learn a LOT of things nonverbally that stay with us, but it is possible we also have traits/historical memory stored in our mitochondria.

I am so lucky be alive during the time of the internet. It is such a thrill to discover videos like this, that expand my view of life and existence by pointing out patterns I never thought of. Thanks David. I'm going to read his book and some of the others mentioned. Learning can be such a fun journey at any age.

I wonder if there’s an evolutionary reason for being conservative or liberal? I’d propose that liberal people would show empathy with everyone and conservative people would only show empathy to those within their tribe. There could be good arguments for either way to be more evolutionarily advantageous.

I think people with the same ideologies would tend to lead eventually more communal-type lifestyle. We've already separated into blue State/red State mentality. A change like that would probably happen over generations 🤔.

Very interesting thought. And you can see reasons that either ideology could be useful depending on the situation. I have thought for awhile that it would be very useful to set up something like the Peace Corp but within our own country. Send the rural kids to the city so they can broaden their knowledge of others, and send the city kids to the farm to do some real work.

@Thezuule1
@Thezuule1 2 года назад
Hell, take it one more step. Essentially all species are only able to exist because of internal symbiotic relationships. The very nature of being an animal is having many different cell types all working together to preserve the existence of the whole. This cooperation of living things begins at the cellular level and expands to the macro scale. We're all just a small part of one giant superorganism.

Wow thanks for this David I was absolutely 1000% in on this topic. I feel like that about transgender people. I feel they are more evolved than us in a sense. Although like you said actual reproduction needs a uterus and sperm, maybe in the future societal changes will allow what we know as someone’s gender now, will cease to exist in the way we know it. Maybe it’s wishful thinking but I hope that we can move past the tight constraints we put on gender identity and humans will all be transgender in a sense. Everyone just sees you how you are
@normagrimstad8869

As much as we do not want to hear it, I think prejudice is partly due to inborn human nature. It would be natural for tribes to be wary of any outsider. It’s not just about obvious differences such as race. Humans will find other differences such as religion to fight about. At the same time, we do not have to use this as an excuse to do nothing and just resort to violence. I think our continuing evolution depends on realizing our ‘left over’ traits and making good choices.

Very interesting content! I remember seeing footage of a currently-protected, previously uncontacted people's feast. As visitors from another group entered, the subtitles read: "We're here to eat all your food and fuck your women!" (close enough) The evolutionary strategy of diversifying the gene pool is known amongst our Modern cousins in the Amazon Rain forest! I think that selection by Class, Ethnicity, Religion, and notable cases of incest in our "Modern" history has weakened our gene pool. Gay couples adopting children out of "the system," and inter-Racial/Ethnic unions bearing children offer hope! Full disclaimer: Childless Bachelor

@12:00 This CICO argument is extremely flawed. The calorie is based off of thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is first based off of the theoretical idea of heat energy in isolated system (which don't exist in nature), then closed systems, then finally, open systems. Humans are open systems (the furthest away from any meaningfulness of such an idea). Humans breathe, sweat, deficate, bleed, sneeze, etc. That's before we even acknowledge the fact that a bomb calorimeter hasn't any hormones or enzymes and the like, as humans do. Humans chemically breakdown & chemically distribute food energy. This has very little to do w/ heat. David saying it's "mathematical", alluding to that caloric math should be taken as fact, is very ignorant & cringworthy. Furthermore, it's one thing to believe in such modern fairytales, but to re-write history with it on a public platform is egregiously ignorant.
