And this is why I have under 300 volumes...I wasn't that lucky and there's barely any deals here so I bought most of my stuff full price or at least almost. I'm happy with my collection tho :) Great video as I said before. Looking forward to more of this series :)
Bro insidious, I totally felt that same way, I also read Naruto wen I first encountered manga at my school library, I stopped after that and my friend told me to read berserk, and that first experience of like awesomeness I can not explain, I read berserk at a local Starbucks and I was tripping out pacing back and forth at Starbucks sinking into my chair wen I read more of feeling depressed and so pith off and I couldn’t stop, never had that experience again with any other series even after I started collecting
I'm from Austria and in Austria/Germany/Switzerland we have our own Manga industry. Although it's kind of cringy for me to read in German it's cheaper. One of our volumes costs 6,95€ (~8.1$), 6,50€, 14€ for a 2in1 Softcover (Sun-Ken Rock and The Breaker for example), Master Editions (mainly by MangaCult) 28-32€, but those are HC and they collect a big part of a manga or all (Tekkon Kinkreet, Basilisk 1&2 or Blame 1-6 in HC). And then one ebay you can find those often in stacks for
Wow I wish I was that lucky I only have 102 manga volumes but well what can ya do and great idea with the podcast thing that makes for a quick but entertaining video
Well to be honest you got it a lot easier than it could be for other however a part time job 1-3 days a week could buy all the manga you need, from 16-22 i worked part time through secondary school, college and university. All the money i used for that was personal fun but also video games and manga. I have over 300 volumes and 1,000 games across many platforms so you don't need to be lucky or anything you get a good collection just work, heck I'd have more aswel if I never spent 70% of my money on food 😂
#askSwede Do you think Berserk is adaptable? I recently started the Falcon of the Millennium Empire Arc, and was thinking that if it was done correctly, an anime wouldn't be too bad. Of course, I've already seen the horror that was Berserk 2016/2017, but looking at the way that it was made and the choices behind the staff, it was no wonder that the series tanked. Plus, the 3rd Berserk Golden Age Film was actually really well done animation-wise, so I know that it's possible to make a quality Berserk animation. So again, back to my question, do you think Berserk could be adaptable if it was given the right resources and care, or do you think that the later parts of the story or artwork will hold it back from a proper anime? Also, I apologize if you've already answered something similar. I'm pretty bad at remembering things I've seen, and I know I've seen you make videos about Berserk, so if you've already answered this, than just ignore this question.
Here are a few ideas! - What are your expectations for the Vinland Saga anime? - Top 5 most overrated manga ever? *Cough* one piece *cough?* - How are you able to juggle between reading different manga at the same time and still focus on each storylines? I can never do that. #askSwede
Saoud love one piece and i respect your opinion but besides OP what other manga has the amount of details that it does awesome battles character building even the fodder characters sometimes come back to become stronger he also does a good job with continuing building on a world thats already so vast and rich in content that it keeps me wanting more just for that sole reason. however, everyone has there opinion i understand but no other series ive read or heard of has any of these examples mixed together
clampies3815 yea I recently started buying from it the problem is it takes at least 1 month to deliever and there is no tracking, Tho I still think its the best option I just ordered Dorohedoro first 4 volumes for much cheaper than amazon or something with shipping price
When you count your manga collection into volumes, do you count lets say vagabond vizbig as 1 or 3? Do you count Vinland Saga as 1 or 2? Weird question but I have wondered this for a while
Haha, well if a series is available in single volumes and an omnibus format, I count the omnibus as 3 volumes, whereas like with Vinland Saga, I only count that as one volume because there's no single volume equivalent. Does that make sense?
InsidiousSwede but, in japan they're sold as single volumes. So, if you look at the original source you would consider to technically count vinland saga as two volumes.
For me, I just put about 10% of my salary towards manga, and buy a bunch every few months, and over the course of a few years, accumulated 4k volumes. (Although they are all in JP since it was cheaper even with shipping, and a great incentive to learn Japanese.) Takes a lot of time!
This was really nice to listen to. I can't wait for more. BUT I do have a question though WHERE ARE WE SUPPOSED to post our next question? I'm pretty sure in the comment section here BUT you did say "This is the only time where I pick the question" Also my story is kinda funny too I'm 17 years old and back as long as I can remember I was a CD collector (Still am but not as much) and I used to collect a lot of them I had like 130 CDS but now I only have about 70. Then I got into gaming on the PlayStation 2 and my Wii I would play mostly Sonic games. THEN when I was 12 years old I watched a REAL ANIME and that was called Wolf's Rain. It was really good and I watched it on my Windows XP computer on RU-vid BACK when they didn't block everything. (And what I mean by REAL ANIME is I would watch as a kid Pokémon and Sonic X. Anyhow's I got out of watching Anime for awhile then I watched Clannad and then Fairy Tail. THEN I was at my school one day and I saw a Manga called Pandora Hearts I decided to read it BUT I didn't like it and it was confusing (Cause I couldn't read it) THEN I watched ten minutes of a Anime called Death Note. And I dropped it. I didn't even give it a chance then I saw it at my school then I read it and I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. (I actually threw Volume 7 of it across the room in Chemistry cause I got so mad) (You should know why) Anyways now I love Manga and Anime BUT I fell in love with Anime first. I'm sitting around almost 100 volumes. ANYWAYS that's my story HOPE YOU ENJOYED READING THIS PARAGRAPH! Thought I would share! :)
XD OMG thank you for reading. Your only one year older then me.. I also would play my cousins 64 and I would always play Mario 64. I was always scared of the damn water levels. I loved going in the Ghost levels. Those were my favorite! :) Yeah I grew up listening to a lot of classic rock music and alternative rock. I would listen to Rush and the Eagles. Then I would switch to Linkin Park, Nickelback, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace a whole bunch of stuff dude! Those were the days... I also want to get Evanescence new album. It was killer when I first heard Imperfection.
Thank you for sharing! Makes me feel better about not having enough and keeping up lol Need to slow down and get out of det so in a weird way thus helps me if that makes since at all. Great video. Looking forward to more in this ask you!
Sadly i dont trust online services...so i will never be able to buy mangas....and the bank makes us pay a tax on our prepaid card in my country which sucks...
personally i just dont do much else with my extra cash. sure some dvds, cds, and very occasionally a game or going to the theater, but mostly its just manga....and even then a lot of second hand stores, and third party amazon sellers
I'm in my 40's, and I have bought my first Manga (Deathnote black edition), and so far I like it, I'm 2 chapters in. When I read normal books I can be easily distracted now, my mind is everywhere, and I find it hard to concentrate, not sure why. I think I will have to choose my genre very carefully though, so I will do a lot of search that way, your videos are aw done, been watching and subscribing to you for a while now, keep them coming. If you could point me in the right direction of manga, maybe sport and crime genre is for me.
When i was 8 or 9 my mom married my step dad, and he had the first 25 volumes of naruto, and a complete set of hellsing, and i read the heck out of those books, so when i had a few bucks to my name when i was 10 or so i bought the first couple of death note volumes.Sadly tho i was broke up until recently, so i hadn't bought much manga up until last year or so, but I've probably bought over a hundred volumes. jobs are nice 👌
I have 201 volumes right now, 34 are compilation volumes with 2-4 volumes in 1 and some lightnovels I took a part-time job to be able to buy them and used the money from my confirmation
Nice video bro! I think one thing you could do would be to put questions on the video when talking about it, I know you don’t want to edit the videos but I’m just putting my input Great video regardless
For editing ideas: You could show pictures of what you are talking about. For example in this video you could have showed footage of your shelfs, your collection. Or when you'll talk about shonen/seinen (hopefully :D) nd you speak about the differences, you could take manga pages that show the difference and blend it in while you speak. You know, stuff like that. But anyway, listening to you is calming, you are a good talker! :)
Does it bother you at all that unlike video games, manga 90% of the time will depreciate in value ? Personally i collect manga because I enjoy the story and art, I don't purchase it to resell it in the future. Great video by the way =)
Yes and no. I do understand that manga doesn't retain value unlike Video Games. But I love the hobby, and sometimes it's more important to enjoy what you're doing rather than worrying about the value retention.
Brian Shub video games depreciate in value even more than manga though. games on the PS2 that used to be worth $60 are only worth $3 right now. even video games that collectors consider to be rare and expensive, like super metroid, are only worth like $20 more than they were when they were new. i don't think you should buy manga as an investment, but if your volumes are well taken care of you can get most of your money back for them after the series goes out of print. also, i really hope that manga doesn't ever become an economical investment, because that type of thing ruins hobbies. you'd never look inside a volume again out of fear of slightly bending the spine and lowering the value.
Fair point. Although manga rarely ever reaches the value of a lot of these video games. Especially from systems like the SNES or N64. Almost anything complete in box is $80+
InsidiousSwede yeah but those games costed like $60 when they were new so they really didn't go up that much in value. and it took over 20 years to get to this point. back in the early 2000's SNES games were as cheap as PS2 games are right now. they always lose like 80% of their value, and then certain games regain their value slowly either because of high demand or low availability. for example, games like Sonic the hedgehog are still only about $10 complete in box because they sold so many of them. you can make money from collecting video games today by looking for cheap deals on them from people who don't know their value, but if you bought all your NES games new in the 80's and tried to resell them now you'd lose money on almost all of them.
I have a question: The vast majority of manga I read, I can never find official English translations available for purchase, they are always scanlated by very small online groups. Do you have a way of getting around this, or should I just learn to read Japanese?
Matsuma A. I'd say learn Japanese. Regardless of application, studying a language is always useful, but in case of manga, that's the best way. Not trying to shill views or anything, but in my videos I showcase some series you probably had never seen or heard of. Some are good, some are bad, but they are sometimes only available in Japanese in physical form. So in order to read them you'd have to learn Japanese and import them. Also rereading a series in another language gives you a whole new experience so it's also worth it on that level. P.S. I'm also completely against scans (that aren't official and payed for). It's stealing no matter how you look at it. And I don't see how it can be morally justified just because it's not available otherwise. I'm not telling you or anyone to stop using scans, but I think that looking at it objectively is important from a more philosophical standpoint. Hope this comment helped regardless :]
First I like this idea but also I feel like 5-15 mins is too short for podcasts and you should upload a version of the podcast to iPodcast which is where most people listen to podcast since you can dim your phone and listen and it also helps attract more viewers in a different platform just an idea
How do u watch an anime and the manga for that same anime without knowing what happens right away? For example how do u read the my hero acedemia manga and watch the anime
Not exactly relevant to the video but i was just wondering where you get your japenese volumes from. Also great vid and look forward to more of this in the future
I loved the backstory about how you got into manga! I was really lucky and my high school had a huge collection of manga, about 300 volumes and a ton of series to choose from, but the one I decided to pick up when I was 16 was death note. I read it in 2 days (couldn't sign out many volumes at one time) and thats what kicked off my love for collecting, so I completely understand the feeling you had when you read death note! Love the vids, keep up the good work!
Ahhh yes. Your first manga. I remember that feeling you described. My first manga was wish from clamp. Pepol say they cant poot the book down, heck the book would not poot me down lolo still my favoret to this day. Still such nostalgia each time i see it. :,)
Its fascinating to watch a video like this and see how other people my age have such similar stories when it comes to anime and manga. I first saw an episode of Naruto in the middle of the Chunn exam on cartoon network when I was 12-13. From there I discovered they were books and the rest is history
maybe (just an idea) you could do like some type of Audio Spectrum Effect with this types of videos since they're podcast more than something to watch :)
#askswede Hello Swede, i have been watching for a while and you were my inspiration to start collecting manga and I wanted to ask if you could explain how you do your manga haul videos? I currently have an anime related channel and wanted to start involving manga into my content and i just recently ordered some manga so that i can make a haul video. Could you give some tips and tricks? And nice video!
huh, funny how life works out like that sometimes. It might not be particularly fiscally wise to spend a lot of money on manga (especially as a young person/adult) but it did get you a descent sized online following (well by mangatuber standards in any case lol)
