Fun fact: in 2008. Karlovic beat Federer in Cincinnati winning ONLY ONE point against the serve in whole deciding set. Amazing.

Ivo got to a point where he was terrible at tiebreaks. One year, he was in the top 20, and he lots all ten of his third set tiebreaks. Had he won, say seven or eight of them, he would have been in the top 5 in the world

The mofos saying the without his serve he'd be outside of the 1000 are out of their minds. Ivo can absolutely crush his forehand and his net skills and huge wingspan make him very effective and very hard to break. Also his backhand slice stays low, he can vary the length and I've seen him do some great things with it. His baseline game alone isn't top quality but it's still way better than he gets credit for. And arguments like blah blah ball without this or that shot so and so player wouldn't be anywhere are ridiculous and miss the point of it all. Also, I know most people don't grow to such a height but we need to appreciate how difficult it is for someone like him or Isner to change direction rapidly and move around the court.

Nice unique idea for a video. That being said, while 6-1 in a breaker sounds like a big lead, he only had two match points on his own serve, and as good as his serve is, those match points on returning points aren't worth much. I'd rather have those two match points on my serve at 6-5, 40-15 than have them as Ivo did in this breaker, regardless of it being 6-1. He didn't really choke either. He could have on that second serve let, but didn't. If he had the breaker over again, he may have played it a little less conservatively, but the fact that he did take his foot of off the gas a little is more of a strategic error than it is a choke. Giron put some good returns at his toes, and didn't give anything up, so at the end of the day, it's really just one of those things that happens in tennis. Cool vid though man, I'm not trying to be critical, just calling it as I see it, so take it for what it's worth from some random dude on the internet.
@tennisoutlook7571
@tennisoutlook7571 Год назад
I appreciate the comment and mostly agree with what you said. The reason I highlighted the two service points in my vid is those are the points he was supposed to win. (6-3 Point) In the match he had won 80% of first serves and in my opinion Giron did a great job at getting the ball back but I don't think Ivo judged the return well. If he did he would not have gotten himself so far up in the court. The slice he hit was so close to his body which is why he hit it out. Had he judged the return better he would have given himself more space to hit a deep slice and charge into net. Then on the 6-4 point he has a second serve and it's not a difficult volley but he hits it long. He had been winning around 70-75% of second serves in the match. You can also tell by his reaction how he feels about it. It's a volley he normally makes. I think on those points he choked and we probably just have a difference of opinion there. You are totally right on the return points as he isn't really supposed to win those. Props to Giron for making every ball down 6-1.

I do not think that is a bad choke, or is it even qualified as a choke. Karlovic got the first serves, Giron returned them and game on. It is tough when your first serve gets returned with interest. Karlovic hit the net many times, but he was tired and hit hard, so he had confidence in those shots. Not really a choke. Instead, I think Giron played well.
