according to Ramayana, Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Ram, was an ardent devotee of his lord. He spent 14 years without sleeping in order to serve Lord Ram.
Bro lose of sleep especially in a long run results in drastic decrease in productivity better work for all day(by taking frequent rests in between) but sleep for 7-8 hours.

Even though meghnad was unbeatable, but lakshman being an incarnation of shesha naag himself was superior than him. On the 3 rd day of conflict between meghnad and ram, lakshman after lakshman disturbing the yagya of meghnad. At this moment, meghnad goes to Ravan and tells him that ram and lakshmana are avatars of superior gods , he advises ravan to return Sita maa to Ram with all due honour and respect, after knowing the fact that these are Gods himself they are fighting against , although ravan disagrees , ultimately meghnad bids him a final goodbye. On this same day's end , meghnaad got beheaded by lakshman's anjalikastra !!! This ultimately proved and showed the world , how Powerful shesha naag was !!
Humans Body's have huge Capacity . Laxman is a Example of this. And In ancient times this was possible only Because of Hard Yoga and Meditations . But This is very sad Because of Continued Invasions of Foreign invaders We lost our Cultures and many great Ancient Educations systems .

When I was younger these facts were forcing me to leave Hinduism but when I got to know these facts more deeply through RU-vid, i returned to my hinduism proudly but till never got the answer this fact as i always used to think how could someone being alive without sleeping, thank you so much for sharing this info

People who question our scriptures like how could a man sleep for 14 years just say that these are stories. Okay i admit these are stories but look at these beautiful stories made thousands of years ago by great Rishis to teach us morality and good lessons. We must cherish and respect these things.

Did Mata Urmila didn't slept for 14 years continuously in one go? Time in a day (24hrs or may be some difference in those times) is more than double the sleep time of an average person.

Not only hanuman, there are 6 more Chiranjeevis along with hanuman. Hanuman will be future Bramha. The present Bramha ji is 51 years. All Rishi munis are in Samadhi sthiti, they will all wake up when kalki Bhagwan takes avatar. There is still thousands of years left for kalki avatar.
