Paulo Costa is set to fight Robert Whittaker at UFC 298. Paulo Costa was formally in title contention and lost to Israel Adesanya. Since then he fought Luke Rockhold and was a disappointment. For Business Inquires ytmmache@gmail.com
@@Spenlardrewatch the fight. Just because Paulo throws hard doesn’t mean he’s connecting well. Vettori clearly won 4 rounds, barely had damage on him. Round 5 was the only round Paulo actually landed consistently well on vettori. Y’all are probably the same people that thought dolidze beat vettori by punching arms for 3 rounds.
Costa is a tank that keeps moving forward...and regularly moves right into landmines. I still don't know about the Whitaker fight though, because we don't know how well Rob recovered from the DDP fight. Also, there are some similarities between Costa and DDP. They both have a tricky offense that hides good technical foundations amongst a lot of windmilling. The key difference seems to be, that DDP's team is excellent at scouting and developing gameplans that rely on DDP's weird style whilst Costa just go bonk! If Whitaker has recovered and has prepared for the weird tank rolling towards him, he should easily win this.
In terms of skill you are absolutely right that Whittaker should take the fight. The only question I have is whether Whittaker is starting to hit his decline - dude's been in a lot of fights and taken a lot of damage.
@@Shadowoftheoldones huh? I love Whittaker. I think he beats Costa and has a good chance at a rematch with DDP. I just feel bad for his weak chin at times, but I’m hopeful he can counteract that with some better defense.
Costa was just a bigger dude most of the time and it was relatively easy for him to beat other people. And the number of techniques he used was very small. 1,2,3 in boxing, accessional uppercut and kicks with right leg. He had a punch, but he never looked to me as some kind of force to be reckoned with. And I am glad it's that way. Because that would be the most boring middleweight champ in last 20 years.
at that level fight IQ and intelligence really comes to play, that's why people like Volk, Jones, GSP and other Elite fighters do so well and why someone like Costa is just a ranked MW
Questioning Rockhold’s grappling credibility is a casual take considering mans lungs almost gave out. He swept him from that full guard position so quick once he caught his breath 🤣🤣
I genuinely never thought he was good skill wise he just hit hard and walked forward which is effective until you get to the top 15 then its hit or miss
The biggest problem with Costa is that he lacks adaptability both in and out of cage. No gameplanning and no ability to adjust literally a worse version of DDP
I’m a Whittaker fan but Costa is a dangerous fight. Rob has problems when he can’t keep guys that have power off of him and if Costa is smart with his leg kicks he can control his movement. Looking for the reaper to win but Costa has a much better chance than some people are giving him
I was in the wrestling room when Hendricks was getting ready for GSP. He was like 220-230. I don't disagree that USADA Hendricks was different but the man talked about just wanting to get the title and be done. I think after that he mentally checked out as well. After that and his long wrestling career I don't blame him.
I always said costa is a brawler with 0 defence and the moment he fought someone who could actualy strike he whould get fraud checked. He is also a bjj black belt but we never see him use it at all so idk how good he is on the ground either really.
Heh, I mean, Costa looked great against Rob and nearly finished him. Tough division for him right now though. Be fun to see him vs DDP though thwt won't be for a while.
The one chance Paulo has is his power against Whittakers chin which not best. So if somebody like DDP can crack it, Paulo can definitely crack it with his power.
@@drewmcgary2872 maybe when it comes to wrestling. I don’t know about his career before the ufc. But did. Dricus ever ko somebody with one punch? I mean, Paulo was able to knock Yoel Romero down with one punch. And in his KOs before his opponents got knocked out by punches that only yoel and Vettori who both have a good chins were able to take.
I think costa will be a gatekeeper for the rest of his career due to his sheer athleticism, but never a contender. if he has a turnaround, it'll probably be because USADA's gone.
Interesting, can't say I watch the channel because I'm expecting every video to be hilarious, I enjoy the fact he's a mix of covering the sport and the martial arts side of things
