Looked like a very challenging day of shooting. I personally have the steel barrel b14r in an mdt xrs chassis and I am very pleased with it using sk rifle match. Two other shooters at my local range are using the carbon barrel b14r and consistency hasn't been great.
So the question is - how would you have done with the Vudoo? My steel Bergara out groups all of my friend's Vudoos. One even has a Vudoo with a Bartlein barrel.
It's always great to see Ella enjoying herself and being successful. Best part of the competition. As for the rest of it - difficult. It may not have been up to your usual standards, placement wise, but you also were self-handicapped. I'm sure it is a great rifle, but it isn't your Vudoo. You've always preached that what matters is the Indian and not the arrow. But in this instance, the better arrow may have made a difference. That aside, it was a good competition, seemed like great weather, you had Ella at your side, Rick and Matt. That counts as a good day. Enjoyed watching, as always.
Thanks Sigboy as always! I really have it a fair shot and I think for this application the CF hurt me a bit. It would be great for hiking or hunting in the woods with it as it would be a better pick if weight savings were a concern. We did have a great time with great friends and thats all that really matters in the end. Thanks again and have a great week.
I was wondering how the carbon wrapped barrel would preform. My B14-R is a steel barrel for the very reason you stated. Vertical stringing as it warmed up. Still good shooting in a tough match. Hat's off to Ella.
I saw some bore photos of barrels cut and put under a microscope. I tried to find them again to link in this comment, but I haven't been able to after about 20 minutes searching. (If I do, I will follow up with link) Some of the barrels were much more polished, smoother, than others. I'm pretty sure the bergara wasn't one of the smoothest. When you are talking that next level accuracy and consistency, I think a high polish from lapping is going to help out. I don't know if vudoo polishes their barrels or not, but maybe you could ask your contact there...assuming they will tell you. Might be a secret!
Mini tearin it up Even though i have the carbon, i would absolutely go with steel if it was a competition only rifle. I cant say ive noticed bad stringing, but perhaps the florida sun / heat brings its neutral state to a point where there is less of a shift once rounds start flying. Regardless, hard to see what advantage there would be to carbon in competition, other than lookin mad fly. After all, that is 37.8% of the battle. Perhaps i have some more testing to do.
@@XRING thanks . On a different note . I was looking at the xlr chassis kit . I know you speak highly of them and I wanted to get your opinion on them . I’ve went with the standard stock it comes with and vertical grip . Have you had any issues with these two said items ?where they comfortable to use ? By meaning comfortable I meant do the ergonomic feel rite when working together?
@@70willard Hello Willard, one of the most comfortable and adjustable stocks I know of. The Vertical grip fits perfectly and I know Matt loves his as well. I do wish they had an option for the magazine release in the case of alignment problems with the .22’s.
Mr. X-Ring, first I respect your shooting ability. Second I respect your knowledge. My question is this, What in your opinion, rifle shots most accurately for bench rest target? Maybe Vudoo or Anschutz, or what?
Hey James, I appreciate you watching. I think your best bet is to go with a custom build for bench rest target shooting. Otherwise, the Anschutz might be the best for a production rifle.
Did you experiment with different action screw torque specs when verifying zero after removing the action from the factory chassis/stock and installing it into a new chassis? It was suggested to me by a friend when I had a 6.5 Grendel stringing and shooting worse in an MDT LSS-XL vs. my factory Ruger American Predator stock.
What chassis did you put your Bergara action into and how has it performed since? I have the steel version but I’m not super thrilled with the “stock” stock.
Continue to work on bolt cocking ramp and it is now a little smoother, however, not yet acceptable. Significant accuracy improvement after installing the EC Tuner. Now can shoot 0.750” average with Center X at 100 yds. Timney HIT trigger at 8 oz was also a good mod. Still not a fan of the B14R!
I don't know about that, man. They're the only company I know of that will RMA your rifle for free, shoot it with factory loads and real people, then mail you back a target to prove it shoots. Or replace it if it doesn't...Remington has no accuracy guarantee whatsoever with any of their guns. Not positive, but I don't think Vudu does either...
Just an entire cerakote job and smoothing out. My rifle was knocked off a bench at a match and took a drop onto solid concrete. Scratched or gouged every part of the rifle. Muzzle, chassis, scope, bolt knob etc. Just aesthetics, but it was bad. About a 4’ drop.
After 1100 rounds and smoothing out the bolt rotation, this rifle remains very difficult to activate the bolt. A little better with Lapua & SK, unbearable with Eley. Impossible to stay on target while activating bolt. This issue alone makes this riffle NOT fun to shoot. A real shame!!!! Worse yet is the fact that Bergara offers NO solution.
Ive never been a fan of Carbon Fiber barrels.I cant speakfor Rim Fires but I can for Big Bore....and in my experience They Suck.They get hot too quick and walk.
So let me understand this, you entered the toughest match you’ve ever seen with a gun you just put together that week and you say it’s not as good as your high dollar vuhoo that you sleep with and is your best friend! Really come on your bias and have to justify 1 your investment or 2 time spent with the vuhoo. Watching the video you clearly forgot your dope on one shot and readjusted to make a hit how many misses was the course or the shooter or time spent with there tool? To say this gun is not a vuhoo is understandable hell a little polishing and time and maybe even there steel barrel may make a difference but to make statement that this doesn’t shoot like my vudoo is not a true comparison under the same circumstances. What would have been a good finish amongst your competition in this event with your vudoo for which you have how many rounds thru? I don’t care who’s gun this is but when I watch a video that starts off showing a side by side with a decked out vuhoo that shoots better when you removed the silencer than the vudoo it’s impressive. It’s like comparing a corvette to mustang!
Hey Zac, considering how I normally finish using a Vudoo and also considering the fact that Bergara is sending me a steel barrel, I think it is the barrel that is the cause for this.
@@XRING I'm just giving you a hard time. The carbon barrel heats up and shifts poi. I'm in the process on the same set up with a steel barrel so I had to comment..
There comes a time when every person has to come to terms with reality and reality is that old farts won’t ever be as good as they thought they were going to be when they were kids. Some kids parents lied to their kids to spare their feelings...not everyone was made to be a winner...
It’s funnier when reality sets in and you realize some old dude just shot circles around everyone and took the win. Usually with older “outdated” equipment.
