Here is my video on the decline of the Disney Channel. This is why the Disney Channel died. It's very simple but very sad. It was nostalgic for me to make this video so I hope you enjoyed watching it. Disney Channel had amazing Iconic shows with iconic songs and moments. Then it all went downhill and became terrible. The internet became big and Netflix and RU-vid grew. Millennials started migrating to the internet. Disney tried to adapt the Disney Channel but they failed. Thus the Disney Channel died. Disney is now putting their focus on DIsney+ which makes complete sense. Disney is not dead but it's time to say goodbye to the Disney Channel.

I think what killed Disney channel was the logo changing and them removing the glossy sparkly wand thing

Recently there was a crossover between Raven's Home and Bunk'd. You could definitely tell which parts were written by which show. In my personal and correct opinion, Bunk'd is bad. It is mostly taken up by cheap humour. Raven's Home is a pretty smart show and never sounds as if it's trying too hard when they use certain slang words. One half of the crossover ran smoothly and seemed as if real people were in the show instead of caricatures. The latter half had a fart machine and "We are geniuses so of course we can figure out how to get this through the door."

Yo, I love this comment so much because it speaks the truth. You don't need sexual content, intense violence, or even darker tones to make a great story. Literally anything can be a good story so long as it tells a relatable tale, explores an interesting question, and has a good message. There is no requirement that only content aimed at adults can be good. So long as the creators care and try to produce something good, mediaTheygreatestgreatest

I feel like another big reason is teen idols. With the exception of Olivia Rodrigo, no Disney kids have a following the way the og Disney kids did. The real truth is Disney the company stopped really investing in disney channel, most of the good shows we got in the 2000s took yearssss of pre-production, they knew the success they wanted and they invested time and effort to make sure it went well, also the stars of the 2000s were used across platforms, they didnt profit just from the show's rating but also just how popular their actors & characters was, think Miley, selena, demi and the Jo Bros, heck hannah montana the movie beat out one of the fast & furious movie during the opening weekend box office, Hannah Montana was the tv show soundtrack to go #1 on billboard 100 in all of history BUT once they realised the success wasnt re-creatable and the risk if the actors went against the "disney image" they stopped caring, period

I’m not a writer either but I kinda figured out why later Disney channel jokes stopped being funny.....it’s because of the actors/characters. Let me explain...... notice how when characters from old shows (Hannah Montana, zack and Cody, that’s so raven, etc.) tell a joke it’s funny because it comes from a specific character that has a define character trait that plays into the joke. For example, the prendl scene, its funny because we know London is an airhead and would think the gear shift is something you spell and mr. moseby dramatically correcting her because he is a dramatic character and adding the “AM or FM” just adds to how dumb London is and would probably understand what he’s talking about. It’s more like the actors are selling you the joke with their characters vs now the actors are telling you the joke and expect for you to understand

EXACTLY! The characters are integral to the understanding of the jokes. Not like now, when any character could say the same joke and it would be just as dull as if another character had told it. It's memorable characters that tell memorable jokes. These are the references, like PRNDL, which stick around for almost 2 decades.

For Zack and Cody, I think the twins stopped being funny around midway through The Suite Life on Deck because as both Cole and Dylan grew older, their acting grew out of comedy. Now we see Cole in Riverdale and Dylan doing some short films or smaller projects, but they’re mainly encompassing drama or thriller

Here’s the issue with Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, etc. There’s becoming too many streaming services. It’s costing way more than a tv package to have all of the streaming services that you’ll need to watch your favorite shows scattered amongst all of them. However, pretty much everything can be viewed via RU-vid Premium or illegal third party sites. If more companies keep putting out streaming services, it’ll backfire and eventually a lot of people will resort to other means after being sick of having to pay for subscriptions to multiple platforms.
@legomyeggo7471
@legomyeggo7471 2 года назад
with the pandemic it seems that more and more people are using them and these services keep adding more movies, new or old. this is gonna lead to the decline of theaters so i think people will stick with these services rather than paying 10-15 bucks per person to see one movie once, that is if streaming services don’t raise prices

You're absolutely right, and it just goes to show that the whole streaming realm is uncharted territory for all of the entertainment companies in terms of consumer desires. Eventually people are going to get sick of having to pay $200-300 a month for 10-20 different electronic entertainment subscriptions. What I think will happen in the future is that one or two of them may join forces with a handful of others so that there is a lesser total number of subscriptions and customers aren't as inundated with both the wide variety and compounding costs. Let me give an example: NBC just launched its streaming service Peacock last summer. The problem is that its very new and not many have yet heard of it, so when you take a person who is already paying $50-100 a month for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and even audio subscriptions such as Spotify and/or Apple Music, and then introduce them to Peacock, they will realize that they are already spending too much on entertainment and won't put out more cash for yet another streaming service, especially when its new and also likely has a limited catalog, which I suspect is the boat Peacock is in right now. If Peacock fails to take off for this reason, NBC might decide to eliminate it completely and sign a deal with Netflix or Hulu to carry their content instead, since they each already have a strong customer base. TL;DR, the streaming companies might start sharing their catalogs with each other so that there is a fewer total number of which the individual customers need to keep track.

I had to pause the vid to comment this - you really hit the nail on the head in saying that they left their relatable Disney vibe to try and match the crazy outgoing nickelodeon vibe, this is why it all looks fake, jokes are bad and the situations are unrealistic - they let go of what they were best at.... and in doing so they lost their magic

I've noticed that too. They always wanted to beat Nickelodeon so they tried to copy their formula. But eventually Nickelodeon ended copying DC (crazy right?) Disney Channel always created shows with out of the ordinary situations (ex. So Weird & The Jersey) but they always had that Disney touch to to it that other networks didn't have tbh

There's nothing wrong with having things being unrealistic because it's the core themes and the characters that are supposed to hit us in the heart. In the end, I think it's because they're playing it safe. That's So Raven is unrealistic for many of us, but it was entertaining, it made us laugh, cry, cheer Raven on and I guess those are things considered "relatable", but I think Disney Channel needs to find a balance in their writing.

I was watching Hannah, Wizards, Sonny etc well into my 30s(29) but when I came back to the states from being stationed in Korea cable Tver was getting so stupid. “Reality TV” was everywhere and getting out of hand so I stuck to NetFlix catching up on old shows like Power Rangers, Xena, and Xmen the cartoon. But then they started removing shows and got stupid too so I just stuck to RU-vid. And even RU-vid is becoming lame.

its rlly sad hearing their “age compression” statement bc idc how much kids are being pushed out of tweenhood by dark teen media, it literally just takes studios like disney to do something different. kids still need simple relatable even “cringy” cheesy content. everyone tries to blame literal 12-18 yr olds for “growing up too fast” when they’re just absorbing wat theyve been given to watch. its not hard to give them something better.

They also make fun of that tween stage that everyone born in this internet age up until like the early 2000s went through kids go from watching Disney and Nick sitcoms in "kid" (usually bright colours and text) clothing to Riverdale and such and wearing crop tops and ripped jeans. People complain that kids are too "fast" but are quick to make fun of kids naturally progressing to teenagehood (they're still kids but I'm trying to differentiate a bit)

The only thing I’ll disagree with is when the decline started. I feel like some of the more recent shows like ANT Farm and Liv and Maddie started off really great. And as they progressed past the first season, things started to taper off. I think they were struggling to find shows that would click with audiences and would just drag out the ones that they had that were doing okay until they could find new ones. That unfortunately never happened. And it’s such a shame that Disney doesn’t put even MORE effort into their animated series. Gravity Falls, Wonder Over Yonder, Star Vs The Forces Of Evil, Amphibia, The Owl House, etc. are all considered some of the best animated shows from the second half of the 2010s and the first half of the 2020s! Disney needs to start focusing more on that imo because they have a lot more leverage there.

I’m so glad that you broke down why Disney Channel is decreasing in quality instead of shaking your fist at the newer generation of kids. They can’t really help that they were born into a different time than we were, nor can they help the fact that the management at Disney mishandled their shows for the better part of a decade. I’ll always have fond memories of watching Disney Channel shows from 2006-11. We Gen Zers are definitely going through a nostalgic phase right now. One thing I noticed was that they seemed to stop wanting to cast super young actors as the stars. They used to have a formula: Hire a 13 year old, do heaps of seasons as they grow up, then rinse and repeat once the inevitable 'child star struggles with growing up in the spotlight' controversies set in. It seems like they switched to actors in their late teens to avoid this (plus once they reach 18 they don't have to deal with child acting restrictions), but then you end up with 20 year old stars wanting to be able to act their age and move on with their careers so you only get a small number of seasons and a star that the audience can't really connect with outside of the show.

Disney nostalgia is like medicine. It literally makes my eyes water to go back to those memories. I remember when it was Friday evening and school would be done for the week. Eating dinner and hearing the TV go "A DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE". The epitome of my glorious childhood 😌🙏🏻 Thats so raven The proud family Kim possible Lizzie Mcguire Hannah Montana Cheetah girls High school musical Halloween town Twitches All the Disney princess movies My top 10! I was born in 2000 so honestly I consider myself blessed to have been able to experience waiting 2 weeks for a new episode of Kim possible or wait a whole year to watch Halloweentown. I also loved it when Disney would use their stars in different shows as different characters and we would all be like "OMG ISN'T THAT VANESSA HUDGENS"- When both her and Taylor McKesson appeared on sweet life of Zach and Cody. And the crossover episodes where always something to hype yourself up for. kinda looses its flare when all I have to do now is just get on Disney plus and I'm two clicks away from watching the proud family. Disney gets petty and spiteful when they don’t get their way. Hilary Duff wouldn’t accept being treated like a teenager anymore. Why should she? All the shows had it, even the worse ones. You could always picture it without it feeling too out of place. It started feeling more and more out of place as years went on but it didn't really disappear until about mid 2017. All the shows, from suite life of Zack and Cody, to Austin and Ally, to Any Farm, to Good Luck Charlie, heck even to Stuck in the Middle, and Best friends whenever. Even the Disney XD shows had a similar feeling like Kick'n it, Lab Rats, and Wonder Over Yonder. You could just picture the show in the tagline "_______ is coming up next on Disney Channel" and then the jingle (the original, not the new techno sounding version) and it just feels right!

And usually the best one was saved for August. It was a huge thing and it was all my friends could talk about during summer break. We can thank High School Musical (2006) for that. Disney noticed it hit a near perfect formula for both high viewership and selling merch and tried to replicate it year after year. Yes a lot of merchandise and sales came out of its success but while they were making it, their expectations were extremely low and while it premiered in January 2006, it was filmed in late 2005. I believe that the reason why Disney Channel going downhill is because now Disney is owned both MCU and Star Wars aka two biggest money making machines in Hollywood, so why Disney have to give an effort to the "made for TV stuff" because Disney right now can make billions dollars from doing nothing (before the Covid pandemic) and now there's an existence of Disney Plus, which means that Disney is now one step closer to put the final nail to the Disney Channel's coffin. It's hard to believe that we're live in the time where Disney care nothing but MCU and Star Wars stuff and I don't want younger generation of childrens to know and remembered that "this is Disney" In the end, I really miss the good old Disney from my childhood, the magical kingdom that once gave an effort to their products unlike current Disney which sells their soul for money that made by Marvel and Star Wars. (I have nothing against MCU or Star Wars whatsoever)

My prime Disney, as a 16-year-old in 2021 was Good Luck Charlie, Jessie, Austin, and Ally were the big three. I think the prime ran out was after these three ended and were replaced by Bunkd, and Bizzardvark tried to steal the show. Disney Channel prime also ended after they stopped the Halloween/Christmas specials.

I have noticed Disney seems to be aiming at trying to attract teens and young adults more than kids these days. Especially since they are the ones with the money and the means to purchase merchandise by the bucketloads for their "Disney collections". Disney is practically piggy-back riding on popular properties such as "Star Wars" and Marvel, (making a Star Wars attraction that costs $6,000 for two nights) and their original movies aren't even that original anymore. Like "Moana", "Frozen 2", and "Raya and the Last Dragon" all had a story plot that went like: "Protagonist's home is being threatened by some natural force and needs to find an object that can help save her home." I can understand how they would feel hopeless though. Society is changing like a landslide, and the entertainment competition keeps piling on for the attention of the younger generations, as well as the older ones.

Funny thing is... while Disney Channel in the USA was going down hill, Disney Channel Latin America was putting out extremely popular shows like Violetta (2012-2015, 240 episodes) and Soy Luna (2016-2018, 220 episodes). These shows were so popular that they had concert tours and even a movie (for Violetta), the only Disney shows from the USA that did the same thing were Hannah Montana and Lizzie McGuire (I think). I think what made them so popular in the first place is that they were extremely different from American shows. They didn’t have laugh tracks and unfunny jokes, the storylines were more mature (with real life issues and subject like loss, grieving and adoption), and the characters were relatable and lovable.

100%. Miley Cyrus was only 11 when she recorded the Hannah Montana pilot, and was 12 for the rest of Season 1. Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana was canonically 14, but Miley was just especially talented for her age. I think it's much better to hire a 17/18 year old to play a 14/15 year old (so long as they look the part), rather than a 12 year old who acts without skill. The reason they "hire young" is so they get as many years of convincing acting from the kids as possible. A 12 year old can play a 14 year old consistently until they're around 16-17 and they'll still be recognizable and relatable to a young audience. But will kids want to watch for that long, if the 12 year old isn't a talented actor? If there's no chemistry? This is why Disney Channel is dying.

I've seen everything, the golden era was my time, Hannah and Raven are my life and everything and made me who I am today, and I'm sad that kids nowadays won't be able to feel like this, feel that you had the best childhood with your series and DCOMs, it's sad, and also, Disney Channel should just rely on reruns of their golden era.... In my country they did something last year and they aired tons of series and it was trending topic for 2 days! Now they are reruning hannah and Raven 2 times per week and brandy and mister whiskers and suite life on deck 5 times per week and they are the most watched series they just need to bring us back and they will succeed, all these years and we aren't bored of our stuff, why would we get bored now?
