I think it was mentioned once that the Nightwing's 'toxic saliva' was actually just Bacteria in their mouths, which normally lives in decaying meat, but when the Nightwings ate the decaying meat that the Bacteria lived in, the Bacteria just ended up hanging out in their mouths instead. So their nasty bites were really just a result of bad Oral Hygene.

I draw Wings of Fire tribes a lot, and while i'm trying my best to be Anatomically Correct, I've noticed some similarities. For example, Rainwings and Skywings both have teensy snout-horns. Nightwings and Sandwings have similar front-foot structures. Icewings and Nightwings are the only tribes with long, pointy spines. The hind feet of Mudwings and Seawings are both flat, so their little ankle toes are resting on the ground. It's very interesting, and has caused me to come up with some complex Evolution Theories! I would love to see a Legends book taking place around the Scorching, so maybe we could see what the Tribes looked like back then- and maybe there would be some now-extinct species as well :D

As interesting as it is, I think fire is less likely to convergantly evolve than some things you stated. Ignoring the pantaloon tribes, as we have no reference as to what beetlewings look like and I cant be bothered to do leafwings, id say the oldest would probably be seawings, as they lack any projectile capabilities, then rain wings for the same reason. Note they both have tails that must be quite strong, and its possible, though very unlikely, that the microorganisms giving the seawings bioluminescence may have become incorporated into rainwing bodies, kept trapped and giving them colour change (but as I said, this is a fair bit far fetched). Also splitting from seawings are mudwings and Icewings. Mudwings have the least advanced fire of all the tribes, and Icewings seem to have a similar mechanism, but propel some kind of liquid that freezes on contact with air, which has the advantage of not melting the ice of the iceberg you're sitting on. From Mudwings I'd probably go to Nightwings, for the similar headship, and then to Skywings and Sandwings again for the head shape and what you've pointed out respectively. Tui obviously didn't have tribe evolution in mind when she designed them, so there would have to be hundreds of filler species that have gone extinct in there, but that's my ideas.

I made my own possible evolution/history of WoF dragons: - SkyWings and NightWings shared a common ancestor tribe; RainWings and LeafWings shared a common ancestor tribe; SandWings and BeetleWings shared a common ancestor tribe; SeaWings and MudWings shared a common ancestor tribe; IceWings came from the Dragonworld’s polar ice caps, bringing along animus magic - BeetleWings evolved into SilkWings and HiveWings after Clearsight’s arrival 2,000 years ago; At some point, RainWings and NightWings might interbreed and become a new tribe - During a possible Dragonworld ice age, many dragons had fur or feathers to keep warm; At the end of the ice age, the tribes lost those traits to adapt to a warmer, moister climate - BeetleWings and LeafWings found Pyrrhia‘s climate too cold and fled to Pantala in search of someplace warmer - With the ice caps melting, the IceWings moved to the land that was once occupied by BeetleWings and LeafWings; Since they rely on a cold environment, the animus IceWings enchanted their territory to be in a permanent winter - Before animus magic was bred into the royal bloodline, some IceWings interbred with dragons from other tribes and gave them animus magic as well - As the climate warmed, the ancestors of what would be the future Pyrrhia tribes settled into new environments to suite their lifestyles - At one point during the global warming, the dragons became the dominate species of the continent after human populations dwindled (this would later be known as the Scorching)

Maybe there will be another Pantala situation if some of the tribes have to move out. edited for spelling

the books make it sound like hive wings and silk wings are quite similar and their tribes are considered different due to laws and agreements, a silkwing-hivewing dragonet would probably appear similar to a hivewing. there are definitely differences that must have evolved, like the hivewings odd wing structure, but I think they could still pass as the same tribe given the fact that most hivewing nightwing traits must've been more common so a hybrid would appear incredibly similar to a hivewing no matter what. Sorry if thats hard to understand!

I believe that the dragons started out with an animus and a non-animus, that way, it makes sense that when an animus has an egg with a non-animus that their child can be an animus, because from what we've seen, animus magic is recessive so I think all dragons need to have the animus gene, but the gene of non-animus is almost always dominant. Also, isn't it strange how Queen Diamond, Prince Arctic, and Darkstalker were all animuses? Three in a row, wow.
@jadedesigns6171
@jadedesigns6171 2 года назад
If all dragons had recessive animus magic genes two non animuses would be able to have an animus. My theory is that animus magic is dominant, but at some point a dragon enchanted it so only one dragon per generation per species could have the magic.

Based on your question at the very beginning of the video, it’s extremely rare for a calico male cat to be able to reproduce. But real-world cat genetics don’t exist in the Warrior universe, since I think there is 3-4 toms that are calico, within the whole series. So, they took a very rare trait for male cats to have and made it more common then it should be. Another example is that in Bluestar’s Prophecy, we know that these cats can talk perfectly almost at birth, despite that should be impossible, due to that kits are born without teeth and curtain sounds need teeth to properly pronounce, like the “Th” sound. Also in the same book, they complained for a bit, that Bluekit doesn’t have her eyes open. Even though she was described as being only a few days old at that point in the story. In real-life, kits would never have their eyes open that soon after birth. What makes it even worse, is the fact that most, if not all the herbs used on cats throughout the series, are actually poisonous to real-life cats So, in reality, the Warrior books doesn’t follow real-life cat biology, at all.

I try to shy away from using joy ang's versions of the dragon tribes because they have a few inconsistencies (seawings don't have glowy scales on their backs, icewings have blue eyes and not obsidian black); but I have a few ideas as to where the tribes connect to eachother. I think icewings and sandwings are closely related because they radiate the temperature they are most adapted to. They also are mentioned to bathe in water a few times in writing, and have a lot of endurance. Jerboa could have gotten magic from icewings, but it's about as possible they are powers they have in common with sandwings as well. Not to mention they live right next to eachother! Seawings and mudwings seem to be either related or were competing for the same resources in coastal areas so seawings had to move into the ocean. Lastly, rainwings and leafwings appear closely related as they both have green scales, are arboreal and tend to harness the environment to their advantage rather than relying on their natural weapons or inventing a tool (like nightwings).

I don't really understand the "coronal ejection from the sun" idea. The name "The Scorching" probably just refers to the tribes using their fire on scavengers, and the event as a whole was political/social/cultural. Also, an idea like that is a little too Sci-fi for the series, which is fantasy.

My theory was that all the dragons evolved from rainforest dragons bc they all have opposable thumbs, perfect for climbing on and clinging to trees. And eventually as they started gaining intelligence and dexterity in their talons, they became better and better at crafting and using tools, and some dragons left the trees while others stayed? Idk though lol that's just me

holy crap i have a fantribe called the flamewings, who are distant ancestors of skywings, who have fire breath and rhombuses on the end of their tails, and i’ve had them since like, 2019. what a coincidence! Edit: Since making this comment, I’ve developed my own theory, that all the pantalan tribes are descended from rainwings, perhaps an earlier version, as it was confirmed in the books that beetlewings had venom and that leafwings draw energy from the sun, just like rainwings!

I've always had the impression that the migrants to pantala were pyrrian in nature and the genetic differences are all from time. realistically that wouldn't be enough time but WoF has never really had the best grasp of these kinds of things. the connection between rainwings and beetlewings has been clear and the leafwings are quite similar to rainwings. (the leafspeak safely falls under "magic"). it couldn't have been exclusively rainwings because in the legend of the hive sequoia describes flasmesilks burning bugs out the sky, clearly flamesilks hadn't evolved yet and she was probably describing a fire-breathing dragon in the only way she knew how. my main disagreement with your categorization is that rainwings and skywings seem far more related to one another than to any other dragons, they both have jointed fingers in their wings they both have skin connecting the front of their wings, they both have nose horns and thumbs on front talons. I can see the idea behind trying to group together venomous dragons but rainwing and sandwing venom is so different in so many ways it would almost make more sense for it to have evolved independently. sandwings appear more related to icewings than anything else. Fire breath seems ancestral to all dragons and has been lost in certain tribes, rather than having only evolved in some places.

This makes a lot of sense, I noticed that the SkyWings and RainWings looked similar in their facial structure as well and have near-identical spikes along their backs and tail. They are also more slender than other tribes. Also IceWings and SandWings both have pale scales and dark eyes, and it's not a stretch to see how tail spikes could evolve into tail barbs given enough time. Possibly some SandWings went to Pantala and were the firebreathers you mentioned, then bred with the BeetleWings giving the some of the tribe venomous tails while the Pantalan SandWings just faded away due to not tolerating the massive forests well.
@willowthewarriorwolf7153
@willowthewarriorwolf7153 2 года назад
I'm pretty sure it's confirmed that LeafWings and RainWings are related to each other, and some RainWings have traveled to Pantala before. Even if it's not confirmed, think about it; Their little nose horns (although the LeafWings' is more of a stub), their snout pattern and the bumps above their eyes, the shape of their horns (even though most of the dragons had it), the shape of their shoulders and bodies, and their legs and tails are about the same length.

Love the video, and great art as always! I always thought or just had a head-canon where Sand, Sky and IceWings had the same common ancestor because of their natural animus, all three can survive in fairly harsh climates (tundra, desert, mountains ect) all three can more or less radiate either heat or cold, (Sky’Wings can only do so when flame scales) and all three live on the more western side of Pyrrhia.

My theory of the scorching is that this is based in the future after a human nucular war. Dragons have evolved from different animals. This would explain how "scavengers" are said to have once ruled the world but my theory does not explain animus magic, rainwing scales animus magic or the shape of the contents. That's just my theory anyways. Liked you video keep it up🙂.

Poisonwings when not talking about leafwings sounds like a fantribe of sorts. Also i have a oc who is a Beetlewing the last one that still exists in his timeline even after 2000 years because he was enchantet to be unable to get phisicly older than 6 years ( like about 16 years for a dragon ) and be completely invicable. He after visiting the nightwing island fell in lava and was trapped in a volcanic roc for befor said 2000 years at least. And again the question what do you think of this? Also there is a fantribe called the Stormwings but either a fantribe or not the idea sounds cool.

Due to the closeness of IceWings and SandWings, I can imagine them forming into a fusion tribe(not sure what to call em, does anyone have any names?) that would be resistant to both extremes, have several venomous tail spikes, and have a 50/50 chance of having frostbreath or fire and another 50/50 of cold or warm scales. However, frostbreath dragons would be much more likely to have cold scales and vice versa. There might also be an *extremely* rare chance to have both frostbreath and fire, and what they use along with their scale temperature would likely be able to be consciously switched. Their scale color would probably range from sandy-colored to cyan to white(depending on breath weapon, cyan scales are generally cold and sandy are generally hot, while white is both or neither), but those rare frostbreath and fire dragons would generally be white. They would probably be rivals with StormWings and on okay terms with SkyWings(or their descendants), and would be led by the strongest(Due to this, white dragons would often lead). Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I have my own personal theories on the matter. However, mine is more based on the design Joy Ang has given rather than their abilities. *SandWings and IceWings* :This may seem insane at first, but let me explain. Both of these dragons have triangular scales on their bodies, alongside pronounced cheek bones. They are the only tribes with flared noses, and both survive harsh temperatures. Both the Kingdom of Sand and Ice Kingdom are not that far from each other, and it is easy to see how a singular ancestor could have adapted to both environments. (Also, both have darker eye colors than the other tribes). Now idk how frostbreath and fire breath could have come from the same dragon, but here is my theory: The original dragon had frostbreath, however, the ones that settled in the desert had offspring with the ancient NightWings, and thus some of those dragons had fire breath. Gradually over the years frostbreath faded from the now SandWings, and their ancient NightWing blood explains their similar build. *SkyWings, RainWings, and LeafWings* :We already know the RainWings and LeafWings came from the same ancestor. But what about the SkyWings? Well, both RainWings and SkyWings have very lean and agile builds. Also, both tribes have a distinct scale ridge separating their under scales from their main scales. Their back spikes are also very similar, and both have eye ridges. SkyWings would also get their fire from the ancient NightWings. (This is also why I headcannon LeafWings with a venomous bite). Now NightWings also have eye ridges, however their bodies are much more muscular than all the others that would have come from this ancestor. Also, a NightWing tribe with a separate lineage is better for my theory overall. *SeaWings and MudWings* :This is pretty self-explanatory, and could explain how MudWings could hold their breath underwater (I headcannon MudWings with large lungs). Also, both dragons have similar horn shapes. I didn’t really see it working at first and still not entirely, considering how different SeaWings and MudWings are. However, MudWings could have yet again be offspring of the ancient NightWing tribe, and thus explains why they have fire and are more muscular than the SeaWings. And if my theory was correct, I think that SeaWings and NightWings would have had a common ancestor much more ancient than the other tribes due to their different characteristics. *BeetleWings* would come from an entirely separate lineage considering their many unique features, especially their two sets of wings. We also have to remember that there could have been other extinct tribes that we don’t know about yet that could have played a major role in the adaptation of the present dragon subspecies. And the original tribes could have very well existed around the time of the Scorching and diverged in the approximately 3000 years before Darkstalker’s time. The modern tribes are already quite similar to each other, and people seem to underestimate how fast animals can adapt (I mean as an example from the books, see how fast the NightWings developed their venomous bite during their time on the Volcano).

Freedom/Lizard was described as orange, but with Leafwing features (I will read it again soon, but I believe a sail also). Plus, when they were in the mind space and saw Cottonmouth's memories, we see tons of dragons that seem to be ancestors of the modern tribes. For example, you might see Nightwings and Skywings from a dragon "black with red and orange spots, breathing fire across the scavengers" (Not an exact quote, but its how I remember it). I think that since now we have cities like sanctuary and the dragon world is more at peace kinda we will see a lot more hybrids. I think that eventually there will be less uniform tribes and more a fluid version of that. I think that instead of speaking of tribes as I’m a Icewing or they are an Icewing it’ll be more I’m mostly Icewing and Rainwing but my Rainwing ancestors also include Nightwings and one of my great grandparents is a Skywing because when the tribes start intermingling there will be more hybrids and then that’ll spiral into a lot of Allwings.

This is unrelated but I have a theory the an animus (most likely someone in the Jeraboa bloodline) enchanted something that makes the animus dragons lose their soles when they use their magic. (don't hate me I know what Turtle said about animus dragons but I feel something like this happened.)
@carrott36

I think maybe you turn evil from thinking you can use it however you like, like what happened to darkstalker, but we simply dont know enough. for example, if I got my hands on darkstalker's scroll and wrote '.' whilst thinking that means I turn pink then what happens? because if I do indeed turn pink, that means when darkstalker cast his soul spell he would've meant it to protect him from losing is soul, i.e, the freedom that goes with animus magic, and thus he wouldn't have gone mad and the soul reader at the end of the book would still say he's good.

i have a theory... what if the beetlewings were the silkwings, so in the old language the name was beetlewing, so when clearsight arrived she renamed it the ''silkwings''
@carrott36
@carrott36 2 года назад
beetlewings are very genetically similar to rainwings, and during the time of Scarab's Great Great Grandmother the Silkwings and Hivewings officially split. Then again, Sequoia referred to Beetlewings as if they had existed long before that and since became different, so your theory could very well be right!

Hybrids are important in evolution
@carrott36
@carrott36 2 года назад
uhh.... where'd you get that? evolution happens from 'glitches' in Dna most of the time, not hybrids. For example, if I live in a cave but I cant see well, im not gonna live very long. but if I get a chance to reproduce, and it glitches, causing one of my offspring to be able to see better in the dark theyre gonna live longer and its likely gonna keep on happening until eventually one offspring can see in the dark perfectly.

Bruh why do you have to make wof so complicated, their just children’s books. Btw animus magic is a chance of luck, the ice wings just got unlucky. Stop making it so complicated.
@Bootifulsoop
@Bootifulsoop Год назад
Bruh, dude, sometimes people really likes wof. And yes it’s a children’s book, (even thought it contains gore,) this might be a thing people really like. Kinda like Star Trek or Pokémon. They’re just fans. You may not like that, understandable. But really other people like this.
