I hope you enjoyed this adventure! It means so much to me that you spent the time watching it. If you enjoyed this, please consider subscribing. I strive to bring relatively unknown, odd, unique, and special places to you each week from the American Southwest!
---------------
👍How to be a respectful visitor to these places👍
Native American groups still live in this area and beyond today. These places are still special and hold significance.
1️⃣Don't climb on walls or structures. Don't lean on or climb over them. Many places don't even need to be visited up close. View these places from a distance or with binoculars.
2️⃣Do not touch the rock art. Don't touch or create new rock art to preserve ancient stories.
3️⃣ Leave All Artifacts. Leave artifacts and structures undisturbed to maintain their historical significance. It is illegal and wrong to take artifacts. If you want something to take home, support local tribes by buying their handicrafts and jewelry.
4️⃣ Manage Waste Responsibly. Use waste bags; don't leave human or pet waste behind. Don't 'go' near cultural sites.
5️⃣ Camp With Care. Don't camp near historical sites. No fires near these areas, and ensure all waste is packed out. Don't make fires in caves or alcoves. Camp in designated spots only. When you leave, make sure to make the site cleaner and better than when you found it. Pick up extra trash you may see.
6️⃣ Control Your Pets. Don't let pets roam freely near archaeological areas to prevent destruction. Pets are not allowed in or near sites.
7️⃣ Preserve Fragile Areas. Don't disturb fossils and please protect delicate soil and plant life.
8️⃣ Follow Rules. Don't engage in illegal actions such as building cairns, or using climbing gear to access archaeological sites.
9️⃣ Obey Drone Rules and Laws. Numerous locations in the American Southwest and beyond, such as the Navajo Reservation, Wilderness Study Areas, and various restricted spaces, enforce strict drone usage prohibitions. It is crucial to not only honor the legacy of the people who once inhabited these areas but also show respect for the present-day residents and adhere to their local laws, customs and regulations.
---------------
NOTE: I don't claim that I am the first person to "discover" these places. I just find things on Google Earth and want to go see what they are!
I do not claim to be an expert on anthropology, geology, or archaeology. I say that my channel is about "amateur archaeology". I don't have a degree or formal training in archaeology. I am just a hiker who loves to explore and see new things especially the ancient history in the American Southwest. This is what my channel is about. I hope you stick around and explore with me!
I do not give out locations to the places in my videos. I take seriously the responsibility to protect and respect these ancient places. If you do find/visit one of these locations, please visit respectfully. I try my best to hide noticeable landmarks, mountains, and canyons in my videos.

Wow some of yall need to take a breath, this seems like a genuinely nice guy. I understand he was just amused by the thought of mining sand in the desert, i dont think he was trying to belittle people that work tough jobs for a living, he didnt think it through in the moment. And hes probably not a manufacturing expert to know why different kinds of sand are needed. If any of us are thinking we havent ever said something that didnt land right then we would be lying to ourselves

Cool. In Kanab there are a lot of Native ruins and they film a lot of movies there. The little house with the cross windows, in the final parts of "The Outlaw Jose Whales" is there. The "Apple Dumpling Gangs" and "Alive" were filmed there. My Dad's band played at the after hours parties for the movie stars at the old Buckskin Tavern. I heard it burned down, but there were artifacts everywhere around that place, especially across the street from it. My Mom found an intact hut. It was practically lithified. It was still in one piece. It was bigger than our car. It was amazing. I hope a museum or university found it. Thanks again for taking us along. It's been years since I have been there.

Wow ... that is so cool. I kept wondering for most of the vid, if the caves were on Best Friends Animal Sanctuary land (due to their logo being on the sign), and you popped in at the end. Best Friends is a metamorphoses of a group that I was deeply involved with about 40-50 years ago. Most of my old friends from those days have passed on, but it is delightful to see how well the organization is doing these days. I was visiting there about 25 years ago, before any of the Best Friends stuff was set up. It looks like Kanab has "grown up" a lot since I was out there.

What's with all the hating on sand mining? 😂😢 I live in a sand and gravel mining area and the pits are fascinating to visit, lots of quartz crystals and agates can be found in the sand layers here. If you've ever gone digging or screening on large scale you'll know just how fascinating it is, especially if you're interested in geology. Sand is mined near us for use on sporting fields, golf courses, for glass making, for concrete aggregates, garden landscaping, industrial applications such as sandblasting etc etc. Thanks for taking me for a look at somewhere I'll likely never visit but you really missed the mark by dissing miners. 😑 With love from Australia

These sand mines actually may become a thing again. As crazy as it may sound, there is a global sand shortness in the construction industry brewing. There are such stupid quantities of concrete required that the commonly exploited sources of sand are coming to their limits. There are the deserts, and one should think they should be endless resources. Sadly the grains of sand have been blown about by the the wind throughout millennia and ground to smooth round shapes that offer too little grip to concrete. Structures cast with this sand are not very strong! So nicely spikey grained sand will at some point become much more expensive to source as the construction craze keeps taking its toll on resources and landscapes keep getting buried under concrete slabs everywhere. 2 miles high skyscrapers will require absolute toppest of top notch concrete to not become mass graves. There are business prospects for Kanab there!

Lots of important things in the world and more often than not it's far more detailed than many may think.

My kids and I stopped by the Animal Sanctuary once, very neat place, I had no idea how big it was and world famous. Also, I’ve driven by the sand caves dozens of times and never knew they were there. Now I’ll have to go!😅

Thank you for this video. Did not know about sand coming in different shapes. Always figured sand was sand but apparently not! It is sad so many people are so self centered as to deface with graffiti. The animal sanctuary is a place I would not visit. I started crying in just the little bit of it you showed. That said it is nice to see and know it exists. Blessings to you and your loved ones and thank you again for all these videos you do!

Reminds me of the famous Neil Young song 🎵 I've been in Kanab. I've been in Punjab. I've crossed the desert for a mine of sand. And It's getting bland. 🎵 Jokes aside, actually shout out to all those hardworking sand miners across the world. Also, this was an interesting, well-done, and beautiful video as usual. Thank you for bringing us to all these cool places.

I knew about the sand caves, but never visited them. Pretty neat! Yep, not all sand is created equally. This must have been the closest (and accessible) place to get that flavor of sand. That being said - can you imagine being one of those miners? I mean, sand gets everywhere on your body. Could not have been comfortable. Best Friends seems like a great organization!

Sand is used in certain kinds of manufacturing to make glass. Also sand is used to add to beaches to re sand them.

A sand miner in FL or the desert would make sand mining funny! I’m texting Matt Rife ! Sand mining! The sand grains geometric shape! I’ll be darned!! Crazy interesting show! ✔️👏‼️
