Honestly I think if I had one I would have added the tone pot back then too. Now due to the value I would likely not unless I knew I was not gonna let it go.
Thanks for this, I might had been able to afford a midnight blue memphis studio. The 335 w/ trapeze as they come up every so often for $600 - $800 and now thats over. Tying it to the most popular contemporary signature between musicians and non musicians. Tom hit the nail on he head with this thing. I think the aesthetic is so visually moving.
I owned both of Tom DeLonge’s signature guitars and I will definitely say the Stratocaster gives off more of a Blink-182 vibe (in my opinion) while the ES-333 just felt like Gibson’s take of the Strat. They were both great guitars nonetheless.
So in all seriousness I have this epiphone. I got it back in 2012... If I want the biggest band for my buck should I hold on to it for another decade or two? Will it be worth 10k by then lol?
@@donnydekenipp9344 Honestly, I don’t see them being THAT much more than what they are but it will definitely be worth way more than what you originally paid for. I feel if you have it you should for sure keep a hold of it because after all it does make a great conversational piece even if you no longer want to play it 😂
@@donnydekenipp9344It’s an epiphone so it’s not gonna be a 10,000 guitar but they have doubled in price they were $500 new back in the day and are around 1,000-1,200 bucks for a nice used one it will only go up in value. I would say in a few decades if you keep it in really mint original condition it will probably be worth a few grand more because as time goes on more and more of them will be trashed from playing shows and people not taking care of them plus inflation. There was a bunch of them made so there is no shortage but again as time goes on it will be harder to find them in mint condition. Get Tom to sign it in a nice spot just his name don’t have him make it out to you and wait a few decades until the band ends for good then it will be worth some big money
I owned the Strat as well and can confirm it just goes way harder like you'd think Tom would want. He kneels down right in front of his cabinets just to get blasted with the distortion while he's playing live for God's sake. The Seymour Duncan bridge pickup provided such booming chords, where as the ES-333 sounds more appropriate for 70's style rock or "Indie" Rock from the early 2000's. I like the sound of the ES-333 kinda, but not enough that I was going to shell out $3000 dollars for one (that's how much they cost when I discovered they were being produced). But f*ck me, I wish I had now. I wish I'd bought two of them at least. I say the ES-333 would be a great guitar to have in your studio for recording purposes. But blowing the crowd out of the venue with your chords? It falls a little short of the Strat, while being technically superior in every other way. Idk every time I hear the ES-333 I'm underwhelmed. Maybe dudes need to start cranking up the gain or something? Edit: I just wanted to add that at the 15:00 mark, dude really jammed on that thing. Is that a Blink song? I think that's the type of sh*t Tom should be playing with that guitar. I don't really listen to music anymore, but if that was a Blink/Tom song at 15:00 I'd go listen to it right now.
Man they’ve gone up even more recently... like $3k! 🤯 have both the Fender surf green and the Epi. I got lucky with both but especially with the Epi cause I never really thought much about buying one. I was on reverb back in April and they had a few for $700 that were beat and the one I got that was mint as can be and I picked it up for cheaper than that. I’m so glad I got it but wished I could’ve afforded the Gibson back then. I just could not see myself paying that much at the time for it. Now looking at what they go for, I’m like damn I should’ve lol.
Just sold mine a couple months ago, it was my favorite guitar i have ever owned. Monster sound. Rally wish that came out with more colors. That tone knob is an affront.

Woah! I didn't realize how nice the fret board was until the end there.. Looks almost like these long licks of red flame running down the fretboard and stuff! Rad
Jeez, I saw the control access on the back and I just flashed back to working on a 335 at the guitar shop I worked at as a teenager and having to use fishing line to pull pots out resolder them. I did so many repairs with none of the right equipment lol!
I have the Epiphone version of it which I paid about $500 when it first came out. I really need to clean mine out and take more care of it now. Who knew the Epiphone version of it was also gonna go up in price.
Is it me or the pickup isn't centered with the racing strip?. 🤔... actually, it looks like the neck is not square with the body. The bridge is way out of line also. Maybe it's supposed to be like that but it looks odd.
When you look at the rest of the build quality on the bare wood it’s not surprising they missed something like the stripe and pickup being in the right place. Build quality from Gibson is just not up to par.
@@mightyV444 Yeah it was rough. Every time he removes the pickups from a Gibson I wince at the lack of finishing or workmanship. I can’t deny Gibson have been instrumental (pun intended) in the guitar world but their lack of attention to detail is why I will always go with PRS.
I got the Epiphone, swapped it for a partscaster. Did not like the yellowish stripe and the brown womit. Sanded and refinished back in 2015. Should have sold it as it was 2020. 😂
Awesome breakdown as always Trogdog. You should start recording the DI from the guitars and include the download for that in your videos, that way some of us could run it through our own processing. Thanks for the great content regardless!
What do you guys think about the Zach Meyers Trampus green PRS? I like Shinedown stuff , which is why I bought it. I have one from a few years ago . It just doesn't speak to me. I had thought about selling it to someone who would play it more than I do.
Doesn't matter if I can't see what guitar it is on the thumbnail. The suspenseful surprise was kinda cool actually... The guitar reminds me of a movie line "the guys say its tan and tope" what movie anyone? For 10 points.
This one is more forgotten compared to his Strat. I feel that’s why they are worth more too. We are more likely to get a signature Tom delonge UFO tracker today then a guitar.
I think the strat is also much easier to "fake" as well. you can get a hard tail strat, and add the invader/chrome pot pretty easy, I have seen a bunch of "tom delonge strats" on the market that are cheap strat knock off with a waterslide transfers
I'm a big Tom Delonge fan. I even bought the Epiphone version of this but only had it for a week cause I couldnt get to grips with how it played. Now I know they're discontinued, I wish I'd have kept it!
I could have bought one in 2008 for $500 I thought it was a ugly guitar But a year later I traded a rifle I paid $350 for a Gibson ES 333 I still have it. I would have never thought that this guitar would be so expensive.
Great video! I bought the Epiphone replica right when it came out in 2009, and I would never, ever sell it or get rid of it. I'm going to pass it down eventually, and at that point its fate will be beyond my control. But it'll never end up for sale as long as I'm alive! I love it so much. There's too much nostalgia wrapped up in that guitar; it represents the pinnacle of blink-182!!
Now, the Epiphones are $900 - $2000, and $750 - $850 if you're lucky. And it also sucks since I didn't find out about these until about a month ago once they had gotten super exspensive.
I'm such an idiot. I had a Tom delonge epiphone I only Paid £300 Brad new. I owned it for a couple of years and sold it in 2016/2017 for £350. Kicking myself so much because now I can't even afford to replace it.
Even tho micheal was playing really great i kind of prefer austins playing. It is more simple but also i feel like it shows better how that guitar actually sounds. Not how the player sounds. Dont know if this makes any sense.
Even though I'm more of a Gibson style player, I much prefer Tom's signature Fender Strat he had before moving his endorsement to Gibson. Now that was a killer no frills electric punk rock guitar!
