Our family went through the same experience in the early 2000s. Our application was also delayed due to 9/11. I remember how huge of a relief it was for my parents after our last green card interview. From what you described on your video, you guys are almost done with the process. Just keep the faith. It'll be all worth it. 😃

Thanks so much for watching! I can’t wait for that wave of relief…it’s been a very long time coming, and now we’re here and we’re so happy we want it even more!!! Fingers tightly crossed. All the best!

Your commentary is fantastic! My wife and I now live in the Charleston, SC area, but we came here from southern New Hampshire…roughly one hour northwest of Boston. So, like you, New Hampshire was our Scotland: lovely for the reasons you’d expect, but also very cold and snowy this time of year. As an aside, my brother-in-law works for Ken’s up in Massachusetts. When he comes to visit us, he brings all sorts of dressings…Ranch always among them. I’m looking forward to your upcoming videos!

i had an employee going through this process and i can attest that covid played a huge role in department of labor delays. for example our prevailing wage paperwork took nearly 14 months which is normally a 35 day process. now it’s back to normal timelines.

I was born in the UK many, many years ago. I have a US and a UK birth certificate. A few years ago I decided to apply for a passport. I was pleasantly surprised at the clear instructions and the speed at which HM Passport Office approved it. I am now the proud holder of the blue passport.

That’s such a cool story! I am envious of anyone with dual citizenship whatever the countries, so much more opportunity!

I met my husband while he was stationed in England with the US Airforce back in 2018. We then got married in 2020 and he had orders to move back to the US August 2023 so we ended up doing the CR1 Visa for me and we moved to New Jersey August last year! It’s been a wild ride lol. The visa process was definitely a gruelling process and anxiety inducing we didn’t actually use an attorney, I just spent pretty much all my time researching once we started the process. For us it was much faster than most start to finish was 6 months as we were able to apply directly through the consulate in England due to my husband being stationed in the UK at the time

This process is so messed up! IMO How/why do they not ‘allow’ you to work and earn a living to show you can be an independently functioning member of society. Just doesn’t make sense (to me). Hope it all works out to your hearts desire! Soon!

Right!! The sooner we can start working the sooner we can pay taxes too but the backlogs issuing visas are just getting longer and longer 😢 keeping our fingers crossed that it’s all administrative from here on…and quick!

Thanks for sharing the process. As an American, I embarrassingly only know how complicated the process is from seeing it in the movies & on tv shows.🤭Wishing y’all the best of luck!

So excited for your content! Can you talk a little bit about what l I’m limitations you have now in waiting and what limitations there are with a green card vs a full citizen?
@_amberinamerica
@_amberinamerica 7 месяцев назад
Hey! I’m excited too!! Right now it’s just as I said in the vid…we can’t work or leave the country. Once the paperwork comes through the only difference im aware of is that we have to be in the US for at least 6 months of every 12 to keep it valid, otherwise we will do everything the same/have the same freedoms as a citizen! So we’re really hoping that part hurries up…this limbo period is not fun!!

The process seems crazy for the people that deserve citizenship the most but im glad the camp fought for yall. Also, was your son born here or in the UK? Best wishes and great video!

It’s totally crazy, we’re very lucky to have the connection to camp…never thought that a little summer exchange programme would lead us to this point I hope any teens/20’s watching this are inspired to get out their comfort zone!! Rory was born in Edinburgh, Scotland 😊

Hello! Currently applying for EB-2 NIW in which the waiting times have increased significantly 💔💔 My question is what tourist visa did you move to the states with? In order for your change of status? I was advised the B-2 was a no-go as it’s technically a short term visa and counters the long-term desire of an EB-2. Any help would be SO appreciated!!!

Thank you so much for this video. We are trying to go on the same route and hearing its taking so long more than 4 years is crazy, we were told its 2 :(( and we still thought its long. One question - how did you rent a place if you dont work and have any paperwork to show? Dont they require like some bank statements and stuff? Or youre renting like airbnb type?
@_amberinamerica

Hi there! You’re welcome I hope it’s helpful. It may well be faster for you there’s just no way of knowing or checking up on progress, ultimate test of patience!! Yes so everything about setting up life in this limbo period was a massive headache too. We got a realtor who was a friend of a friend and got rejected a lot of times despite having excellent credit in the UK and plenty savings everyone wants your credit score here. After a couple months trying we got lucky with a landlord who accepted our offer to pay 6 months upfront which we put in escrow with our attorney for peace of mind and it’s worked out, we will try to stay here whilst we build credit and papers are finalised! Getting everything organised not fun but I still believe it’s worth it if it’s something you really want!

One thing to bare in mind if you become a citizen then go back to the UK then I’m pretty sure you end up getting taxed both in the UK and the US, it can be pretty expensive and complicated
@_amberinamerica
@_amberinamerica 7 месяцев назад
Oh we know..our life goals are NOT tax efficient 😅😅😅 and we’re still on the hunt for a good IFA that knows both systems inside out. Maybe I should put out an appeal!!
@Heydrayheyhey
@Heydrayheyhey 7 месяцев назад
There is an income limit. You would have to make more than 100,000 USD in the UK to be taxed. And even then, you would only be taxed for the amount you make above that :)@@_amberinamerica

Hi Amber, I've an L1B Visa and will be starting with our American counterpart in Mid May or June. What terrified me is medical costs. Is there anything you can share on that?

Assuming everything works out for you in the end, do you plan on becoming a US citizen?
@_amberinamerica

Yes we absolutely do! Longer term we’d love the freedom to go between, chase the sun, be where family might need us in the future, without worrying about invalidating our green card. Thank you for watching and commenting!!

It's a shame you weren't eligible for an L visa. The EB3 sounds like a much longer process and it must be nerve wracking knowing you've already made the move but it's still not even guaranteed.

It’s a very grey area, hypothetically yes but there’s nowhere that says so in black and white so we’re too scared to jeopardise anything and just sticking to solo hobbies to pass the time!
