No need to worry about using too many words Laura, I’ve always found you succinct and efficient in your descriptions; you almost never repeat yourself and your word flow is excellent.
Re propagating climbing rose: a little story Many years ago an elderly man stuck a naked climbing rose twig in the dirt at the side of my parents house. My father was going to pull it out but my mother, for the elderly man's sake said "just leave it". Well, that twig grew over the years and covered the side of the house, even to the second floor. Dad took cuttings and before long the whole fence around our house was covered with roses. The neighbours took cuttings too. There were climbing roses everywhere, all from that naked twig that looked beautiful for years after that elderly man passed away. His legacy to our part of town.
Ok, I wasn't going to comment on the white swipe between questions because, ultimately I don't care and will watch either way. BUT, it does disturb the "flow". I think one of the reasons that the highlights videos are so enjoyable is the back and forth and repartee between Laura and Aaron. I think the "swipe" sort of interferes with that. Almost like a palate cleanser.
It was fine before. This also hurts my eyes. I love the recaps but will stop watching as this is so irritating. Before it was a delight and flowed seamlessly.
I have loved that your videos are smooth and very adult, for lack of a better description. I really don’t need words and alliums flashing on the screen nor the flipping between questions. Please don’t try to look like all the other choppy videos out there. Stay true to your brand because it’s as good as it gets!
I grow and propagate African violets and my best bloom tip is to change the soil often, immediately after a bloom. Mine will set new buds within weeks of repotting. You don’t need a new pot, just new soil, and if the plant has more than 4 rows of leaves, clip the lowest ones off. The plant doesn’t need them and they take energy away from the blooms. With the right light and feeding, you can have them in almost constant bloom.
Oof, not The Great Edit Debate! I imagine one must have to grow thick skin in order to put vulnerability into planning, filming, editing and sharing content with millions of people who are each capable of being a critic at one point or another. You guys and your team are doing better than great. Thanks for sharing worthwhile and beautiful things with the world, regardless of how the clips transition. 💚🌱
Thank you! Nice comment. I can't believe the hullabaloo over the editing! People threatening to stop watching? What a world! I get constructive feedback, which is important... but I also imagine how rough it must be to have edited ONE video, and then receive such judgmental feedback! There are nice ways to say things. I loved the split screen! It was fun to see both their reactions at the same time! Nothing about the editing bothered me, but if it had, I'm sure I would have given it at least 3 or 4 videos to decide how I felt. Surely someone new to GA would have appreciated getting to try some new things, add their own flair, and be given some time to find their own style! This channel really IS awesome! And thankfully, so are the majority of subscribers! You being among them. Thank you for leaving such a kind and positive comment. 😊🌱🌼
This video was stressful to watch. It seemed like the footage was even speeded up. In my experience, good editing is not noticeable or flashy. Love you guys and the old format.
Haven't seen any negative, but people do have concerns with the motion. I myself found it to cause motion sickness, and someone mentioned nausea. People have the right to voice their input.
I don’t hate change and in my consulting life my job is to create and manage change. A cornerstone of good change management is gathering feedback, understanding any unintended consequences and reflecting on what should and should not stay the same. This video lacked the ‘calm, friendly, unrushed, banter’ vibe that has been a large part of building the Garden Answer brand. Messing with your brand is a big thing to be tackled. Some people will leave, perhaps others will join. All of which is fine if it was intended. But this is part of how they earn income so they need to know the feedback so they can assess the impact. Then there is the, I expect, unintended consequence of the things in this video causing visual issues for a number of people. It did for me. I could not watch most of it. I could still listen but even that had a different feel. Most of what I read, and what I wrote, was feedback not negativity. Negativity ultimately shows up in lost viewers and followers and for a content maker that needs to be managed.
I agree, there were some "less than kind" comments. Constructive feedback is important for sure... but there are nice ways to say things. Thankfully, most were quite respectful with their feedback. What a sad welcome though, for a new editor trying to show their skills! It's a journey. Hang tough new person, if you even see this! lol
It's so funny, I didn't even notice those transitions that people are complaining about. I didn't find them distracting and thought it was fine. Great video as usual. Thank you.
This edit is hilarious! The "close ups" and highlight of silly words and faces. The close up on knocking on wood. Too funny 🎉 You two were already enjoyable. Anyhow, you inspired me to make a planted pot for a fundraiser.
Good morning GA friends!👋👋 Laura, you are a delight to listen to! Always so many good things to share. We here in Saskatoon Saskatchewan still have mile high snow banks and are eagerly awaiting warmer weather. I’ve had a problem with fungus gnats with my house plants, what do you use?🌻
Hello fellow Saskatchewanian! Laura uses Gnatrol which is BT. She talks about it in a video from Nov. 16, 2023 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sT9iJ1ECUl4.htmlsi=hpWvNm6uzOTLsB3i
If the person who lives in the Mediterranean area reads this, I live in the Mediterranean area as well and yes, our roses do not loose their leaves either. However, it still best to cut them back during our winters, December through February, remove all the leaves and do what Laura does with her's. Oyr roses need to be rejuvenated for best performance and blooms as well 👍🏼 hope this helps you ❤
Well, you have to try new things and see how it works, sometimes. I don't hate this format, but, I really prefer the old to this for most of the reasons already stated. Kudos for trying, though! ❤️
Loved the edit in this video!! I thought it put a perfect emphasis on both of y’all’s sense of humor, & added to the convo, banter and info that we already love about your recap videos. Keep it up!!
The white swipe everyone is talkig about,------I didnt even notice. But what i did notice was this video seemed soooo rushed and Laura was talking so fast
TOTAL TEASE. NOT FAIR. ! 😅 Aaron’s face n tone at the end of the video. Could start some planting. Makes me think their doing a huge tree load. 🤔 I am just so unbelievably excited for this upcoming season to see the dream stream go in and she has a exciting speaker project under his her belt. I think that locust tree is coming out and she wants that kitchen garden put in there or something and then I want to see her plant up that area where that fountain is where that hollyhocks lives on , I’m just so excited for so many things to see and just come together more and more but then I’m just as excited for my own garden too. I’m just itching for summer this year I can’t wait to see the garden in full bloom
If you have a spider mite problem that isn't on a large scale, you can apply garlic infused 70% isopropyl alcohol to get rid of them apply at dawn or dask, initially every 3 days and if you want to do it as a preventative measure, apply 1x every 3 weeks. I know it may be not exactly ideal for big gardens, but it can be applied to the most problematic plants without covering a whole area. I have had great success with this for the past 3 years with my orchid collection. If your plants are going to be in full sun, applying at dusk is best. It does not harm pollinators but you don't want the moisture of the alcohol to burn your leaves before it evaporates. A fine mister will ensure an even spread. Hope this helps someone 👍🏼 no, it does not make everything of garlic 😊
Talking about the green stalk blowing over - l have two leaf planters and live in an area that can get really strong winds. No problem. What they can’t resist is a gopher. One knocked one of mine over trying to get to the beans closer to the top. It didn’t break, but what a mess to clean up on the gravel!
The white swipe is as annoying as the hand in front of the lens accompanied by a whoosh sound that some Tubers do. I’m not sure why it’s necessary or were you just taking it out for a walk to see what we thought?
Love your channel! Been a daily follower for a couple of years now. Kudos to this editing format! My compliments to your editor. Remember this and let it roll…..most people hate change, which is such a shame. Remember typewriters? So many people complained when computers came into the picture……now reflect how wonderful computers are! Huge! Ignore the dicey comments and do you! Your platform is a free education and your special family gives me hope for humanity. I know I speak for a lot of your followers😉
Did you have problems with the video? It seemed overly jumpy and animated. It was visually distracting. I always enjoy these videos on Sundays, it's like sitting down with Laura and Aaron, having a cup of coffee and chilling. But was a little ADHD.
@@cynthiafisher9907 desert climate doesn't change the fact that they smell horrible & are notorious for being weak/susceptible to damage because of their rapid growth & short lifespan.
I thoroughly enjoy the highlight videos but today seemed very rushed. When info was put on the screen it popped up and then left so quickly I didn’t even have time to read it. I prefer your older style of editing
Greenstalk DOES sell the lids seperately. I got two greenstalks for Christmas without the lids so I went on their website and ordered the lids. Easy peasy.
I loved the editing, the funny bits with Laura fitting in the plants and the duo Laura/Aaron reaction - replayed the funny bits, thanks heaps Mr/Mrs/Miss Editor.
I know you were thinking of a regular type of a water fountain. In the area of your circle with the patio. Have you given any thought to a fountain that has a rock in ithat the kids can take and push and spin. It's a Round Rock the water pressure keeps it floating and it will spin it will not be too high and you can still plan around it with a couple of rocks to be able to walk in to touch the fountain.
They do sell the lids separate. I've bought them not having a watering system. I have lots of trees and don't like the leaves and garbage from the trees to get in the top watering reservoir to clog it up.
Happy Sunday everyone! You can tell by the additional effects that the new editor is a skilled video editor who has been doing edits for RU-vid for years! Great work guys! I love the levity and entertainment factor by the addition of the editors emphasis 👍
There are two types of movers and I don't know which one would be best!!! I really want one but don't want to buy the wrong mover. I agree with Laura would love to have a lid.
Greenstalks: I would really like a separate lid (and actually I think I bought a couple last season, but I haven’t deployed them yet) because my Elm trees are constantly dropping garbage into my water reservoirs and clogging them.
Don’t plant tall zinnias in the greenstalk unless they are one of the top 🎉pockets. I planted some in one of the lower pockets and they grew- and got really tall and weird twisting stems relying to find a path to the sunshine. I stuck a stem off a tomato plant in a pocket and it grew a huge plant with tons of tomatoes (sweet 100) but took over a whole,e side of the greenstalk.
Violets..... when you get a long stem, do what i learned from a grower... take it out of the pot and cut (with a sharp blade) about 1 inch from the main part of the plant and pop it in some new soil that is damp and slightly tamp in so it doesnt wobble... and in about a month you shouldnt be able to pull it out......
I ordered the spinning bottom for my Greenstalk and my plan is to grow strawberries for the first time ever. If anyone knows where to get the best strawberry plants, Im open to suggestions!
I have to start with how much I love your videos, all of them. Because of what I've learned from you, I'm not the Thyphoid Mary of gardening anymore. That said, the new editing style is rather off putting. On top of everything else shared, the sudden flash of huge, white words is jarring and distracts from what you are saying. It almost feels like an infomercial where grabbing attention is the only goal because that might generate a sale. Your old style, laid back chats are so much more enjoyable.
I’m always so grateful for all of your videos and I really don’t like to leave any kind of “negative” feedback on videos, unfortunately I just have to express that I’m not a fan of the editing on this video. The white swipe was distracting and it feels like we didn’t get the regular back and fourth that we usually do between questions. The video over all felt a little sterile and unnatural. That being said, I would never stop watching over something like this, I just hope the feedback is taken into consideration for the next recap. 💜
The editing reminded me of Epic Gardening's, which I really like in that context, but I'm not a huge fan of it here like you all mentioned. It was done well, it just doesn't feel like the right tone for Laura and Aaron's personalities. I'm sure I'd get used to it eventually, but I'm glad I'm not alone in my thoughts. No offense Garden Answer team!
Lol, lots of opinions on the editing. I loved the allium that popped up on the screen and some additional information that was shown. Although it's not everyone's taste, you can tell a lot of time and care was taken. Thanks for all your great videos. I watch every day.
I agree. I love the added fun things like the allium, the zooming in etc. My only complaint is I was not a fan of the white swipe, otherwise loved the video. The split screens are my favorite!!
I actually really liked the rose prunning video this year. Sometimes, you just need an in-depth video with direct camera shots of various angles to show the best care for roses. Trimming a big climbing rose is intimidating, but your instructions were bang on for me. My roses & I thank you 👍🌹🌞
To the lady who asked if the propagated violets stay true to color of the original mother plant. I am not an expert, but my daughter started with two plants around 14 years ago and has propagated over 100 plants from them with several generations of starts. She has ended up with lots of variations in color over the years.
Great video! I am excited I am going to Andrew’s this coming Friday. I live in Bakersfield CA and will be going to Boise for my granddaughters graduation from dental hygiene school. I can’t wait for both! We don’t have a garden center like Andrew’s.🎉❤
I've purchased extra covers, tiers, spinner bases, and water reservoirs for my Greenstalk Planters. I like to create two or three tier heights so that my granddaughters can reach all of the pockets and put water in the reservoir all by themselves. 🍓💕
In the spirit is keeping things on a positive note. I really enjoy your (older) simpler style of editing. Less drama is what this channel is all about and I support that spirit more.
Was trying to think of a nice way to say just that, so thank you. Laura, please consider those who have visual sensitivities. The white flash-through between questions, the really fast speed ups in weekly videos, etc. can be disturbing.
I spend all week looking forward to your recap videos. It's my chance to spend some quality time with Laura and Aaron talking about plants and life. This morning was a disappointment. I enjoyed hearing about the plants, but i didn't feel like I was a part of conversation. It seemed strictly edited so Laura and Aaron were talking to us, not with us. 😢
I liked to see more answers to the comments this week, maybe they had limited time and had to hurry along somewhat? In any case, every vid or recap is informative and fun ... for me!😊
