As a Japanese person, I don't really understand why Japanese people are perceived as denying war crimes. We learn about everything from the Nanjing Massacre to the massacre of Chinese in Singapore in our compulsory education. 99% of the parliament members acknowledge that the war was an invasion, and only ultranationalists deny all war crimes. I really get frustrated that Japan's stance is so disconnected from international perceptions.
Japan has apologized and paid reparations to the United States, the United Kingdom, France, South Korea, China, Indonesia, Thailand, and even the betrayed Italy, so this treatment is unfair.

For those who don't know, that's a bronze statue of Genghis Khan in Mongolia. It's 40 meters tall. And just in case you're thinking it's an artifact from a different era, think again. Construction completed in 2008.
Considering Mongolia's irrelevance in the modern world and on an international scale, I'm willing to concede that they should be allowed to fondly remember when their ancestors were able to accomplish something great. Not something morally good, but great in its impact.
Mmm you’d be surprised Vietnam war movies in America specifically show case war crimes and are critical of them. The only people denying it are Conservative Vietnam war supporters.

Actually, the San Francisco Peace Treaty also included compensation for Asian colonies that had been under Dutch, American, French, and British rule during World War II. Japan compensated the happy people of those countries who were clothed and civilized by the Chinese and Europeans, for the harm caused to them during the war. And Stalin and Mao, by significantly reducing the number of Russians and Chinese, also became heroes of the West for creating a balance in the world. Since both the average IQ scores and the level of cultural development are higher among Europeans and Chinese, those races should strive to learn more about European and Chinese knowledge, culture, and technology in order to lead happier lives.
