The first day climb will be tough. More than running, climb stairs regularly for at least one hour to prepare your legs for the grind. Offload your backpack if you are trekking for the first time. Remember to carry medicines and an oximeter as well as you may face some high altitude sickness. Do the trek slowly and inform your trek leader immediately if you are not feeling well.

Me and bunch of my friends did this trek last December in 1 day. Summit push was challenging but the view was worth it. While descending it got little tricky due to hard ice else everything was manageable. One Tip: Rather than booking online contact local agents there. If you’re in a group you will save considerable amount of money.

Can we pair Kedarkantha with Har ki Dun in DECEMBER itself from Sankri? Or does the HAR KI DUN close off in Dec?
@Indiahikes
@Indiahikes 3 года назад
Hi Aayush, if you go early in December, you can go Har Ki dun. By the end of December, the forest department closes the trek because wild animals usually go into hibernation during this period. So you can do HKD first and then go to Kedarkantha.

Hi Swathi, should we plan for acclimatization as well? In the sense that, I would arrive for the trek a day or two in advance from a southern part of India. Do we need to cater for additional days before starting to trek?
@Indiahikes
@Indiahikes 3 года назад
Hi Rishabh, that's not really required. This trek gives you ample time to acclimatize. Spending time at the base camp will not help you acclimatise much because the base camp is not at a very high altitude. But AMS is frankly not a big worry on this trek. Follow the itinerary that we do (we've designed it keeping altitude as a big focus point) and you'll be safe :)

Is there any alternative to running while preparing for Kedarkantha trek? Also is there any benchmark for beginners to assume, they are fit for the trek?
@Indiahikes
@Indiahikes 3 года назад
Running would be the best exercise, since it uses the same muscles as trekking. You could also try cycling if you have the space and no traffic to cycle continuously. If you're running, a good bench mark would be to target running 5 km within 40 minutes. If you can do this comfortably before your trek, then you'll do the trek comfortably too.

Spring (Mid-March to April), Summer (May, June) and Autumn (Oct, Nov) would be the best months to take kids along. This is when the weather is most comfortable for children, as it doesn't get biting cold like winter. It is also when you're expected to have the clearest weather with least rainfall.

@@AmitDas-wp4vp bro i am a bit overweight my bmi is highier than ideal. Wud it be good for me to go for this trek? I have gone for trekking once in Mukteshwar. Sometimes its was a very steep climb and I struggled a bit whenever there was a steep climb but other than that I was able to complete the trek .

@@yeah1ampicklerick720 you can go for this easily. Just start jogging everyday if you can before the trek in that way you won't get the pain in your legs due to lactic acid build up... Rest enjoy your trek..

Hi, yes. You can do Kedarkantha, if you are fit. Check out dates here - indiahikes.com/kedarkantha-trek#view-dates If you are just starting trekking in the Himalayas, you can do Dayara Bugyal. Hi Riya, Kedarkantha has been the go-to trek for families for a long time. Because of the short distances, beautiful campsites and the grand summit climb, it makes for a great trek for both parents and children. What makes it difficult are the steep ascents. Right from the onset, it climbs and gains altitude quickly. But the daily distances are short. If your daughter is fit and active in sports, she will be able to do this trek comfortably.
