I’m new to your page as a subscriber, after stumbling across your videos once in a blue moon for a while. I love, love your style!! I know that your patterns are available on Patreon, but you’ve also mentioned they’re available to the public. How does that work/where do I find them? I’ll probably end up joining your Patreon anyway, because I know there’s stuff there that doesn’t get released elsewhere - I think? - but I’m not really sure how it works. I don’t remember not knowing how to sew, and I have clear memories of events starting from age two. I’ve always had a love for sewing, partly because my body just doesn’t conform to standard sizing. Last I checked, my bust, waist and hips belonged to three different sizes 😹😹 and I stand 5’0” tall (if I haven’t shrunk again) in stocking feet. Thank the Goddess for heels!! I’ve always wanted to be able to design my own clothing, but have never had the nerve or know how to try. That’s a little bit about me so that maybe you can steer me in the best direction for involvement with your page? Patreon? Whatever? I’m going to trust you that you will actually look at where I should be, rather than what makes you the most money - you have a trustworthy face and seem like a nice guy - though I’m likely nuts for doing so and my friends would have a good howl if they ever read this!! I really hope that you see this and answer. I know some popular RU-vidrs can’t keep up with their comments, so … 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Gunnar, I’m a watercolor artist and I admire your unique paintings, sketches and drawings. You’re actually very good at it. You have a unique style that most people require 4-8 years of art school to achieve. Show it off! Don’t judge it, it’s good work. I bet you could have a killer gallery solo show with all of your 2D visual art. I know that is certainly an art show I would attend. You are an artist. Your medium is textiles. You can make beauty from nothing, whether on paper or paper dresses. That’s art!
I took up sewing in junior high. It's not that I loved it. It's just that it was the only elective I could take. Fast forward 5 years and I was sewing coats and jackets and loving every minute. Then I got married and hubby thought it was a waste of time, so I stopped. I got rid of that husband. As a single mom, I had to work and didn't have much time to sew. Years later, now, and I want to pick it up again. New hubby thinks sewing is a great thing to do! We're in the process of moving from one province to another so it may take a bit of time to get the move out of the way and my sewing room set up. I love your videos and am so pleased you've made a channel that I can lean on when I get stuck. Thank-you.
I always remember the wonder I felt when a girl I knew in college layed out some newspaper on the floor and started cutting out a pattern. I never thought of regular people doing such a thing; patterns were something you bought ready made! I'm still in awe of people like you who can create such amazing garments! Love your videos and watch them all!!!
Yesss!! I have an obsession with the 50's dresses. I have to wear them with the flared petticoat underneath. Now, it's called Vintage dresses. I'm self taught, so I'm always learning. That's my niche in sewing. Hope to video some of my sewing soon.
I'm self taught, been sewing since I was 5, and my sketches are horrible! I'm glad I'm not alone, though I don't think yours are bad at all. I always feel embarrassed showing clients what I'm thinking. At least most of my clients have seen my work so they know I sew better than sketching. That program is also amazing!
Gunnar, you are truly amazing! Not only do you make these beautiful clothes, but you take time to teach us all not only HOW to make something fabulous but WHY you do it the way you do. You are soooo special! I am so glad that your grandmother took the time to teach you to sew. I'll bet even she had no idea the greatness that is set before you! Much love, my friend! 💋💚💙💜
You make fashion amazing and so inclusive. You make me want to see again! I can’t wait to try out your patterns. I feel like I won’t be heart broken trying to fight the one size fits ask anymore! No more depression from shopping! you are allowing everyone to enjoy beautiful clothing that looks great on all different sizes of bodies as you have tailored the patterns to make sure it will hang properly! You are such an amazing, wonderful, creative, inclusive, imaginative, innovative human being and so much more! 😊 ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Not only are you THE MOST CREATIVE BAD ASS THAT EVER WALKED THE FACE OF THE EARTH, but you are funny, kind and you make people feel good. Thank you for being you and chasing your dreams and making them a reality!

In Brazil we call that style of creating "moulage" (yes, french) and I think it's very cool. I went to School to learn dress making but the style I learned is made directly on paper, we just get the clients measurements and then start working the design on the paper, and there's a lot of math involved. I really liked your video, great content.
This is so cool! I have a passion for sewing and for art, and recently I graduated for 3d modeling and animation so I immediately recognized the Marvelous Designer program, but I had no idea that fashion designers and pattern makers used it as well! I had just assumed it was for creating 3d costumes for games and animation. Absolutely fascinating!
We all have been so lazy and unmotivated lately. Seasonal depression is a B*tch. Anyways I hope everyone is staying safe and doing well. Thank you Gunnar for your how-to videos you really inspire me to sew more and I really hope to get better no matter how big or small the project is. Bless you 🙏 ♥
I started following for your recreation videos. I’m a plus size, busty home sewist. To see that your patterns have such a great range of sizes is awesome & after writing this I’ll be off to check them out! That you show draping on an 18 dress form - it matters. Thank you!!! Edit - Okay - love them! Would you consider including a high bust measurement in your chart? :)
I watch all your short videos : ) . They inspire me to buy a sewing machine and make clothes . I learned how to sew years ago . I know how to hand sew and use the machine : )
I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS!!! Absolutely love when you do in depth vids like this; the solitude and boredom that came with pandemic showed me that I actually love sewing, and now it’s one of my favorite things to do. I love all the tips and insights you add in your videos and I’m always impressed with your creativity. Never commented before, but wanted to make sure you know how awesome you are!!
I learned so much from this video! I always love seeing how things are made and one thing I’ve never seen is how sewing patterns are created! I love to sew and that’s just something that hasn’t been explained!
I love how you explained that and it nice that you figured out a way for it to work…not all of us have body forms to have the exact measurements for our body…thank you again, hopefully I’ll be able to find how to buy these patterns.
Such a pretty dress! I learned how to make my own patterns in a costuming class in college. Really a fun class with a brilliant teacher. Looking forward to your next video. Take care.
I love that as I'm watching you expertly explain this complicated creative process, I'm looking at what I presume is John the baptist's head being swung around in the background. 😄😄😄
I always wanted to learn how to sew, but at 50 I still can't. But I enjoy watching you make beautiful things. Thank you for sharing what you do. With love, all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦.
I enjoyed this video because I'm a beginner sewer who wants to gain experience. When I have more experience, I want to learn to make my own patterns using my body measurements. During winter break, I will make a long sleeved blouse with puffed sleeves that have a puff on the top only. It would be cool if you went in depth on different garments (and garment parts like sleeves) so I can know how to make my own patterns. 😎
You are a very articulate, intelligent and a quirky guy. I love watching your videos and think your designs are brilliant. Take care and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Australia 🎄❤🎄🎁🎄🥂🎄
The dress is beautiful :D. I been interested in sewing and designing since 4 years ago. Since I don't know how to actually start in sewing I been focusing on designing but this year I got into a vocational school and started learning sewing there. It my first exam on sewing tomorrow. Super nervous but also excited. I love your vids.
Hi Your videos are so inspiring I bought myself a sewing machine and I'm taking online sewing classes Thank u for amazing videos Love from South Africa 🇿🇦
I was hoping you’d say that you decided to have sizes based on body measurements. Like I love shopping for jeans based on waist and leg measurements and think that should be a standard
I can understand why you would like styles from the 50s. I love watching old movies. I love styles from them. I enjoy them, especially some of the styles from earlier than that. Have you ever thought about clothes from periods in the 30s and 40s? Some of the dressing gowns the women wore look so comfortable, better than the things we have now.
Love the project! My body is so hard to fit. 240lb women with HH bra size. Maybe it time to learn to sew to actually have clothes that are beautiful and fit well. ❤️
My cousin wants a mermaid wedding dress with a poofy over skirt and.... I haven't really done this before. There is no deadline but I am trying so hard. I need to go to my local fabric shop soon and hopefully I can get a basic mermaid dress pattern. I will use tulle on the detatchable skirt because its fairly easy to make with and if I used the same satin as her main dress, she wouldn't be walking.
The problem I have with patterns and clothing in general is that I have very large breasts. Trying to accommodate them can be difficult for me. Usually everything comes out looking nothing like what I am invisioning. In pants I wear size 8-10 petite but for tops I wear plus size 18-20 2xl. Do you have any tips on how to join or alter patterns (for dresses mostly), so that they come close to what they're supposed to look like but actually fit my body or do I need to just go to a professional?
I’ve been drawing dresses and designs for a year now ……. I can say I am pretty good at it , but my sewing on the other hand is horrible, Can u please make a video on how to sew for beginners. It would really help out Thank you Love your videos so much
Also I love how your designs don’t look perfect. It’s so inspiring cause my designs on paper aren’t shit either but it comes together beautifully. P.S. if you’re looking for a mentee, HMU pls ❤️😏
