There was an incident in the UK in early 2020 where a US diplomat hit and run, leaving a motorcyclist dead. The country was very angry that she got away with it without any repercussions.
I would have ordered a diplomat in the USA to go kill someone so that the USA know how it feels. Retribution is a must if dont want them to do it again.

as former diplomatic son i can confirm these facts. but in 99.999% of the cases you don't feel your diplomatic status if you behave like a normal human being. having a diplomatic status is an honor you should value but not exploit
you are a great person, you didn't exploit your status like some people do here where i live you can see diplomatic license plates do whatever the fuck they want on the roads and not get stopped

Murder of Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey is a good example. Saudi diplomats in Turkey murdered him, and Turkish gov. didn't arrest them because of diplomatic immunity and they fled to Saudi Arabia. Turkish gov. was critisized internally afterwards for not taking hard action.
Countries doing this will be responsible for our Diplomatic framework eventually crashing down on itself. Because this is something a country simply cannot ignore. A citizen of a foreign country got murdered by Diplomatic Representatives of another country in the country they work in. Turkey should have cancelled all diplomatic relations to Saudi-Arabia after this. Same goes for Germany with that Cyclist incident btw - unless the former Diplomat voluntarily submitted themselves to a trial. But this was a time when Saudi-Arabia was even more heavily protected from Washington than usually. I mean they murdered an American Citizen on foreign soil and the White House didn't even react to it. They were totally unphased and did nothing.
The A555, the first actual Autobahn in Germany, was called "the diplomats' highway", because it goes from Cologne to Bonn, the former German capital… And rather a smallish town, so diplomats would go on the A555 to go to Cologne, ignoring the speed limits.
as of today the A555 is for the most part without a speed limit. The B9 which leads from the District Bad Godesberg where a lot of big Villas from the Diplomats are located, to the Goverment District, also is called like this.
I remember a few years ago here in holland this happened: Turkey: *send a minister with diplomatic immunuty to their embassy in Amsterdam to convince dual citizens to vote* Holland: *TELLS POLICE TO GET READY TO OPEN FIRE ON THAT MINISTER* This is an oversimplification but I've never seen such a stupid political choice in my life.
Norway once searched through a diplomatic bag (in breach of the Vienna Convention) because they suspected a bomb was being carried in it. They withheld the bag and requested the diplomat's presence, which was furious that Norway would hinder the diplomatic mail and accuse them of concealing a bomb, or they would open it without him. Lo and behold the bag was opened to protests from the diplomats, which quickly fell silent when there was, in fact, a bomb inside.
Am from Norway and i have never heard about this before. I try to google it witch if it was true would have given results for sure. I did not find any so am calling this claim bullshit. Please stop sharing misinformation.

UN diplomats get away with so much with their blue passports. I grew up in geneva so it wouldnt be uncommon to meet someone who works in the UN or knows a diplomat or whatever; and I knew this girl who's dad was the diplomat for japan at the time and she told me that once he had to go through security (i forget where) because he left his blue passport with his wife; and had gotten so comfortbale just flashing his blue passport and walking by that he forgot that he was carrying a bunch of weed as personal smoke, and im talking like a few ounces too. So they search his bag obviously and they're in the middle of arresting this guy while he's like: "No I'm telling you im a UN diplomat" and security is like "yeah, yeah sure just get in the cuffs" until his wife runs over waving the blue passport like "what are you doing he's a diplomat!!" , and then they uncuff him and let him get on his plane. Crazy.
kinder surprise eggs are actually really common in the us now. idk if they have the surprise inside or not, i've never bought one. but i can hardly go to a grocery store without seeing them nowadays

Fun fact about Germany and diplomatic immunity: Germany is the only western nation with an North Korean embassy (and the other way around), due to the fact east Germany was part of the eastern block. But now to the funny part: North Korean diplomats are urged to feed the self by doing minor crimes, to hold the costs for NK low. That's why they regularly fish without permission.
If you like the country it's comforting to know they won't get severe punishments abroad and will likely be recalled if the news reaches and really upsets their home country. Free parking is just part of the job but you do not want to be the Russian caught drunk driving in Canada and then sent home to tell Putin what happened, or worse lose their blessing and be charged as a foreigner. Oh yeah and don't try to smuggle a human in your 'diplomatic bag', some people feel compelled to search them if the crime is serious enough and like before you're responsible for your countries reputation and values.
Yeah, the accords on diplomatic relations really rely less on mutual trust and more about a nation's self interest to pick out proper staff for these jobs so they wouldn't be put in a bad light by some scumbag trying to smuggle sex slaves back home in a "Diplomatic -Bag- Container" Point is: Are these standards still valid? The murder of Jamal Khashoggi an American citizen of Arabic origin by Saudi Diplomats in Turkey back in October 2018 is a clear sign they aren't. But that's also due to the US being especially cuddly with this Totalitarian regime back at that time. Who knows what both Administrations agreed to behind closed doors. Turkey was just the rather unfortunate middle man in this scenario, but it should have cancelled all Relations to SA regardless. The most likely reason President Erdogan didn't? He was on an autocratic Power Trip himself and probably liked the idea to deal with dissidents who fled to Europe.
With this is mind, I am now curious to what happened to the Libyan diplomats in the UK when they opened fire from their embassy in London back in the 80s? I can't remember the exact date, though, as I was not even born yet.
It should be made instead that the dimplomat will be punished according to the law in which he did the crime, but only by his own people and in secret. This way, the country they visit cannot hurt him, yet he still has to abide their laws as close as possible, but when they return to their home country, their punishment will likely not be as bad as as the punishment will be carried out in secret. Should keep tensions low enough that people don't get mad at eachother.
8:09, funny little thing with that. Iran back in the '70s and '80s, would not let the DC Fire Department on the property even though they didn't have a choice. So during the embassy siege DCFD companies would just sit outside and wait for the building to go sky high.
When the US diplomats commit a crime they are always protected but if someone else diplomats(uk) they will try and charge them. Especially when it comes too hit and runs..
best way to counter this is to simply say " DONT BOTHER sending another diplomat if we arent allowed to judge this one " lets see waht will be sacrificed relationships that are worth billions or a simple diplomat
@@lovelyhomeboy2782 you prove my point, the relationships ARE WORTH BILLIONS,so it can be made to work,if they are pressured they WILL bend because its simply NOT WORTH IT to just abandon a nation because a diplomat cant do murder on the streets thats the idea, establish rules, make them KNOWN and UNDERSTOOD,they like it fine welcome to said country they dont, what a shame,i see you on zoom call

Ok, now we need the video detailing the truly important information about kinder surprises and why they are illegal in the US. A sinple 1 hour video should suffice.
I remember when I worked in the airport, one of the things we were taught about diplomatic bags was that they could be scanned but not searched, and only for security concerns. For example, before loading onto a plane, the checked bag is scanned, like all others. If a firearm or large lithium battery was detected, it would be set aside (all bags are treated this way). However, unlike a regular bag, which can then be searched with either the customer or an airline representative present and customs agent (or federal Police in the event of serious offenses), the diplomatic bag could not be removed from flight. We would have to inform the bags owner of what was screened, and then they would have the choice of removing the item or leaving it and letting it be loaded normally. Fortunately, like this video says, majority of diplomats are actually reasonable people, and when you tell them that their lithium battery is considered a danger to the flight, they usually are happy to remove it.
Imagine when checking the news, the news reports a diplomat brings kinder surprise eggs to the United States, because of his friends children wants to eat one for his birthday.
I don't think they are, I see them a lot, although I'm not sure if they have toys inside them or not. If I recall correctly, they are illegal by techicality. It's against the law to put potential choking hazards inside food, especially food or snacks designed for children. While it's unlikely that anyone will choke on the prize inside the egg, it is still a potential choking hazard hidden within food.
Almost forgot, here is a link to my Twitter: twitter.com/PoliticswPaint *Regarding Kinder Surprise Eggs in the US:* The original “Kinder Surprise Egg”, the kind which is a hollow chocolate egg with an encased toy inside, is still illegal in the US as of the making of this video. There is, however, a variant called “Kinder Joy Egg”, which has become legal in the US since 2017. This one is fairly different, as it is an egg shaped plastic item of which one half is filled with chocolate cream and the other half contains a toy. You can search pictures of both on google to see the difference. Just wanted to clarify that since I’ve gotten multiple comments asking about this.
In Brazil, it's an easter traditional to gift giant chocolate eggs to children. I got a giant Kinder egg once. Sweet, sweet, choke hazardous astronaut toys, I loved it
It is a common misconception that Kinder Surprise Eggs are illegal in the US because of concerns about choking. They are actually illegal because the US bans any non-food item in food unless it is "functional" (i.e. unless it somehow helps you eat or hold the food, like the stick in a kebab or lollipop), regardless of the age of the typical consumer. Since the toy inside a Kinder egg does not help you eat the egg, it is considered non-functional and prohibited. The law was originally intended to stop people from adulterating food with sawdust and other non-edible filler materials.
It makes sense that this was really necessary. In pre-renaissance eras envoys were entirely subject to the whims of it's ruler and this often lead to losing their lives if they had to deliver messages that are particularly poorly received like ultimatums. The mongols come to mind in particular.
Diplomat causes fatal car accident: DRC: "Ok You can try him in France" Russia: "Nah, but we'll try him at home." Saudi Arabia: "Just take this bribe."
That's more or less how Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries deal with crime, you can buy your way out of punishment if you compensate the victim or their family.
Diplomatic immunity is when you organise a large cocaine trafficking operation through an embassy in Argentina and get away with it. Or when you nick expensive bikes from all over town and then try to sell a deputy magistrate his own bike and get away with it
U know last year in India a UAE diplomats diplomatic bag was checked by asking the UAE consolate in India So maybe everytime you can not smuggle illegal chocolate eggs🥚 🤣🤣
Kinder eggs is also banned in the US don't know why other countries banned this eggs while there are even more toys that are more choke hazard than the toys inside those eggs.
It makes sense for ideologically different countries, its mostly meant to cover things like something being legal in one state but illegal in the other. I think its fair because the host country could always just kick out the diplomat
Its pretty simply if you can understand 2nd order consequences. You presume the home country would be okay with arresting on their diplomats. What if they aren't. These can cause a souring of relations which can have all sorts of geo-poltical consequences and historically can even lead to war. Congrats. You've turned 1 death into 50k.
its to make sure, that the host country cannot under ANY circumstances whatsoever legally do anything to the diplomat like if Russia and the US got mad at each other over something. the Russians cannot under any circumstances arrested and thereby use US diplomats as bargaining tips or vise vesa. so countries cant just fake a crime and use it to at least temporarily have the diplomat as a defacto hostige like when china arrested some canadians citizens in china. after huawei CEO (or whatever she was to the company) was arrested in canada i didn't explain it very good but i hope you get what i'm saying
good video but i feel like it should have covered some more sensative topics like Harry Dunn in the UK was 19 and was killed by US diplomats wife who was driving on the wrong side of the road and fled the UK after hitting him claiming diplomatic immunity and is currently facing no charges despite the UK asking the US to try her in court. whats sensitive here is that it was the diplomats family who asked for immunity and ran away before the crime was reported.
All this only applies if the diplomat isn't American. For American citizens the US seems to enforce an extremely broad definition of who is immune from prosecution
If you're a US citizen or their family member, and you're associated with the US government, or represent the US abroad in some other way, the US government will go to great lengths to keep you out of trouble. In their opinion, only the US government has jurisdiction over such people, regardless of their actual diplomatic status.
