The ride home from the International Space Station sees the astronauts brake from 28 800 km/h to a standstill at touchdown in barely three hours. How does the Soyuz spacecraft reenter the atmosphere? And how does the capsule land?
Watch in just two minutes the sequence of events from farewell to landing. This video is based on a training lesson for ESA astronauts, and it features dramatic footage of actual landings.

Quick question. So they re enter earth in the same capsule they went to space in? Really wondering how the capsule to renter earth becomes attached to the iss to be used to come back home
@trinilocksy
@trinilocksy 2 года назад
@LGBT the pestilence yes understood it’s docking..but was meaning like do they calculate a trajectory and like aim for it at a specific location and boom. Docked?? I mean after all the ISS is constantly moving right??

@HS-ts5wf
@HS-ts5wf 11 месяцев назад
@@trinilocksyWell they can't exactly land in a very precise location. After all, theoretical science differs from reality quite often. However, they do all the calculation including the shift of the Soyuz induced by the thrusters escaping the original orbit path and air resistance (to the best of their ability). However, since the landing itself simply relies on gravity and parachutes, it's not exactly the most accurate landing method.

What space junk? The Soyuz spacecraft separates into three parts (after braking). The orbital and service modules burn up in the denser layers of the atmosphere. The descent module with the astronauts inside returns to Earth.
